  1. As a regular at BCB, let me explain why Fuld was selected. There is another regular over there that is a good friend of Al's who is a Fuld fanatic, so to tweek her as well as everyone else there, Fuld was the subject of the April Fools joke.
  2. Here are the latest updates...Thanks to Al Yellon of Bleed Cubbie Blue for these (since I have not yet gotten a response back from my inquiry to the Cubs on updated numbers, but he did). These numbers do not as of yet appear on the official Cub site, but they did come from the Cubs so I would think they are accurate 34-Jeff Gray 56-Brad Snyder(NRI) 65-Darwin Barney(NRI) 72-Welington Castillo(NRI) 74-Steve Clevenger(NRI) 77-Dave Bialas (ST instructor) 79-Casey Coleman(NRI) 80-Carmelo Martinez (ST instructor) 81-Bob Dernier (ST instructor) 82-Von Joshua (ST instructor) 83-Franklin Font (ST instructor) 85-Mark Riggins (ST instructor) 86-Mike Mason (ST instructor) 87-Dave Keller (ST instructor) 89-Dennis Lewallyn (ST instructor) 90-Brad Kelley (ST instructor) 91-Marty Pevey (ST instructor) 92-Tom Beyers (ST instructor) 93-Bill Dancy (ST instructor)
  3. Novoa and Fox. More specifically, Chad Fox (as opposed to Jake Fox). Yes, with thanks to our friend Kasey. http://www.cubsbythenumbers.com/cubs-all-time.html Thanks for the plug. Yes, I am still here. I really don't post but I do come here to read whats going on. I am soon going to update my yearly page with the spring training numbers and I will be updating the all-time list once the season starts (since that page does not contain spring training numbers).
  4. I talked to my season ticket rep about this since I was wondering how many people dropped their tickets. He told me out of the base 29,000 season tickets, 4 tickets were not renewed. 3 people died and 1 person moved out of state. Kasey
  5. Here is the fact sheet from this year http://i4.tinypic.com/6sq3xg8.jpg and for comparision...last years http://i2.tinypic.com/6o2zn9l.jpg
  6. Interesting note...If the Cubs play on Sunday...The Chicago Marathon is being run that same day. The route of the Marathon takes you just east of the park. It will be a real mess in the neighborhood if it is an early game.
  7. Outshined, this is very well said. There have been several moments in the season where I thought that Ryno did something that didn't make sense *to me* but I also am not aware of what the organization is asking him to do on a daily basis. For instance, he sent Russ Canzler home in the game last night, and he was dead to rights at home plate. Could it be that he was overly agressive and tried to send him home or was this something the org wants our guys to be working? He tried to do the same with Marquez Smith earlier this week, and somehow Marquez missed the windmill motions of his manager (he would have been a dead duck at the plate too, btw) Overall, a very difficult question to answer. He definitely has the backing of the team - but would guess he's very much a "players" manager. That said, I would say that Jody seemed a bit more naturally comfortable in the role last year. He was willing to take a lot of chances just to try things (especially early in the season), where as I would say that Ryne is a bit more conservative. Then again, that could be said in general of their personalities, so guess that's likely not a big shock. By the way, Margaret (Ryne's current wife) is a very nice lady. She sits in our section and has been to nearly every home game this season. Various sets of kids have also visited Peoria this year, and all seemed great too. In fact, she was just mentioning to Mr Mac last night that they are RVing home to AZ after the season is over, so watch out world! Just my 2 cents. Nate could probably shed some additonal light here as well, as he's spent more time with this team than anyone else. Happy Labor Day weekend everyone! (oh, and LET'S GO CHIEFS!!!) Thank You...Thats what I was looking for. I appreciate your answering this. Kasey
  8. OK..I have been away from here for quite a while, and I see there is someone who really does not like Ryne on a personal basis, but that does not answer my questions about his managerial abilities. Can I get a straight review of his first year as a manager? Kasey
  9. I was also wondering about this. I have read a lot of puff pieces on him, but how was he really as a manager. Is he really doing a good job, or is he getting by on his big league reputation. Also, I was wondering about how he compares to another 84 Cub managing in the minors, Jody Davis. I liked him a lot last year and with these 2 former Cub managing, who is the better manager and who has the better chance of actually making it to the Bigs as a manager. Kasey
  10. I have been told that last week the Cubs contacted bleacher season ticket holders to ask where they want their seats to be, since playoff tickets are all assigned. AT that time they were told the invoices for all playoff tickets will come out the week starting the 27th. No ticket prices were mentioned. Kasey
  11. Here is the link to the schedule on the Cubs site http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/chc/downloads/2007_tentative_sched.pdf
  12. a couple of corrections that I have found. Pittsburgh is playing Milwaukee on May 3rd. That series probably will start on April 30th and run to may 2nd. July 5th Pittsburgh is once again playing Milwaukee. THat means the 5th is either an off day or the Nats series goes from the 3rd to the 5th. http://milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/schedule/tentative.jsp?c_id=mil&year=2007 Also, since the Cubs are playing the Rangers on the road, the Seattle games should be home games. Kasey
  13. Well..the Giants released their schedule, and you got them wrong for at least 1 series (which would also mean that the SD series you have penciled in for 7/16-18 is also wrong). http://giants.mlb.com/sf/downloads/sf_sched_07.pdf July 16, 17, 18, 19 @ Wrigley August 21,22,23 At SF Kasey
  14. The NL central might be playing the AL west, but the Cubs play the Sox in 2 series, therefore 2 of the AL west teams come off the schedule. The A's and the Angels just happen to be the lucky teams to miss the juggernaut that are the Cubs.
  15. If your grid is correct...wouldn't the games probably be April 9th, 11th and 12th? Don't the Cubs usually take a day off after the opener (if the opener is on a weekday other than Friday) in case the opener is rained/snowed out? They did this in 2000, 2001, 2003 & 2004, (2002, 2005 & 2006 were Friday openers) Kasey
  16. You have the Reds wrong. According to their schedule, they are at Wrigley Sept 17, 18 and 19th (which you dont have)you have them in Cincy on Aug 27-29 which is not on their schedule. (see http://cincinnati.reds.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/schedule/tentative.jsp?c_id=cin&year=2007) Kasey
  17. Look here http://houston.astros.mlb.com/hou/downloads/hou_home_sched_07.pdf It does not list the Astros playing on August 9th a game against the Cubs. That should resolve the conflict with the Rockies on the same day. Kasey
  18. Yep, you are right. I have always had a partial plan (first weekends only, then weekends and nights). When they eliminated the partial plans in the past , everyone who had one at that time were allowed to keep it (like the current situation). New season tickets sold were full season tickets.
  19. As a season ticket holder since 1984, I can answer the question about moving. Yes, the Cubs have let you upgrade where your season tickets are, based on availablility. When you renew, they ask if you want to move, you check the box and after they get all their renewals back, if there is somewhere to move, you will be contacted and asked if you want to move there. Since I like my seats, I have not moved since 1996, but in the past, I have moved 4 times (once not by my choice, in 1984 & 85, I was able to get field boxes on a partial plan. when the eliminated the ability to get field boxes with a partial plan, I was moved to the terrace boxes). BTW, in the years I have had my plan (I started out with weekends, and then when night games were added, it went to weekends and nights), the Cubs have eliminated partial plans 3 times (and grandfathered in everyone who had them at the time). Twice they went back to offering partial plans after season ticket sales went down. With the dismal years lately, I predict there will be a drop off of the 2003 band wagon jumpers and the waiting list will dwindle and eventually disappear. WHen this happens , partial season plans will once again appear. Kasey
  20. I had a friend who went to Fenway earlier this year, and they did the wave there. He told me he asked his cousin (who lives out there and goes to a number of games per year) and he said it happens almost every game he has been at. At that point, my friend was bragging about it never happening at Wrigley and feeling at least superior about that. Now even that is gone.
  21. Wrong..It would piss off the City and the neighborhood around the park. THats why there is a city ordinance that prohibits the Cubs from playing more night games. The fans...well as night games have shown, will show up no matter what. The Cubs would LOVE to play more night games...they make much more money from TV revenues from them.
  22. 1981 topps future star (#214) Ralph Botting, Jim Dorsey and John Harris 3 strikes and your out!
  23. THanks...THats what I was looking for. I appreciate the feedback. Kasey
  24. I was just wondering...How has Jody Davis been doing as manager of the Chiefs? Now I don't really mean wins/loses, but how has he been doing as a manager. I have not been able to really follow the Chiefs, so how is he in the handling of his players? Hows is he with his pitchers? Overall, is he a decent manager? I was just thinking about him as a possible replacement for Dusty if the Cubs want to go the local "big name" route once Dusty is gone and I am not sure how he would be. Kasey
  25. He had already been sent down. Oops..I missed that one...Thats what I get for not checking everything out before I make my first post here in a long time. Sorry Kasey
