Just a question, but who exactly is now left in that Cardinals pen?

Thompson, Flores, Izzy, Reyes... I think that's it.

No Al Reyes, most likely out with surgery for the season. They'll probably have Wainwright and Tyler Johnson as relievers also.

Not pretty.

Wainright has been reduced to relief?

The plan is to have Wainwright pitch out of the pen this year (long relief, spot starter) and in the rotation next year. It's how they broke in Morris.

CARDINALS FILL HOLES WITH TRADE

Immediately after announcing that they would not offer arbitration to second baseman Mark Grudzielanek and outfielder Reggie Sanders, the Cardinals moved to fill both of those holes by acquiring second baseman Aaron Miles and outfielder Larry Bigbie from Colorado. King has been one of the Majors' most durable relievers, while Miles and Bigbie could slot directly into St. Louis' starting lineup.

Sounds like they're going to be starters?

for what its worth stone on the score just said that bigbie has a great swing and has the potential to win a batting title if he ever finds confidence in himself. the cards seem to bring out the best in players (grunz, womack, sanders, eckstein) so lets hope theydont do so in his case.

Cards owners are really taking it to their fans. Their ridiculous frugality in the face of the huge revenue coup they are seeing this year was underlined when they couldn't free up a lousy 3 mil a year for Grudz. Pathetic!

I'm liking Walt Jocketty more and more.

BTW, if Miles and Bigbie go from crap in Coors to all-star in Busch, that, beyond the shadow of a doubt, would prove that God is a Cardinals fan.

If God is a Cardinal fan why haven't we won a friggin' World Series in the last 23 years?

Because the Cardinals can't spend 200 million dollars a year.

aaron miles sported a very neifi-like IsoD last season. a terrible fit for the cards.

this is a terrible move.

bigbie isn't as terrible as miles, but the cards should have asked for hawpe.

You're funny.

Let me just say that if Bigbie/Taguchi is a platoon in one of the corner spots, I will be thrilled. I'd rather have Hollandsworth starting in LF. Did they offer Sanders arbitration?

We'll see how King's slider does in Colorado.

They didn't offer Sanders arbitration, so he's no longer an option for them.

Let me just say, I love this move for the Cardinals. Absolutely love it!

what's the point in trading for bigbie and starting him? might as well have gone for the prize. could be a long year for the cards.
