I noticed in the Sporting News that the Rangers... "might part with a pair of All-Stars, second baseman Alfonso Soriano and third baseman Hank Blalock, as it seeks pitching."

I realize we have Aramis Ramirez, but wouldn't Blalock be an upgrade? His defense is a bit better than Aramis', and he hits for left-handed power. I know we have other needs, but could he be added along with, say, Mench or Soriano, who would fill a need?

No. Blalock=Overrated. .749 OPS in 2005. .611 on the road. Let me repeat that. His OPS was .611 on the road in 2005. Ramirez is head and shoulders better than Blalock. While Blalock might return to his decent number of 2003-2004, I'm not willing to gamble that for the prospects it'll cost to get him.

i still think blalock will bounce back from his subpar 2005. he just turned 25 in november, and he had .850+ OPS in 2003 and 2004. that being said, i don't see why the cubs would have any interest.

Blalock is in no way better than Ramirez. To even suggest so is pretty ludicrous.

Williams, Pinto, and Patterson for Lowe and Bradley

Then

Blalock and Lowe to Phillies

Padilla, Hill, and Moore to Texas

Abreu to Cubs

Williams, Pinto, Patterson, Hill, and Moore for Bradley and Abreu? Seems a bit excessive to me considering the Dodgers are pretty much willing to let Bradley go for next to nothing, and it doesn't sound like they want a whole lot more in exchange for Lowe.

If the Dodgers were willing to let Bradley go for nothing, they would take the deal for Patterson or Walker. I don't think that's a lot to give up. Especially when you consider the Cubs are pretty desperate to fill the 2 OF spots they are trading for.

I could just be confusing him with someone else, but didn't Blalock come up in the minor leagues also playing SS and 2B?

I could be wrong, but I don't think so. I remember his always being a 3B and there being a time when him and Texiera were two of their best minor leaguers, but both played the same position and they were looking to move one. Then with Texiera's D not being as good as Blalock, they moved him to 1B. At least that's how I remember it.

I think that is a little steep for Bradley and Lowe, but I guess we don't know how desparate they are, only how desparate they're rumored to be.
