  1. You should have just thought that instead of posting that if that's what you wanted. Opps, there's another post about Molina...it's going to be up just a little longer now.
  2. Homer as Bruce: "I don't knewww."
  3. I think Wilson would start in left and Jones in right if he were aquired by the Cubs.
  4. I don't think there is any room at the Inn for another catcher.
  5. I'd like to know the results of the pitchouts and how many times did he guess right. How many times did he put his pitcher behind in the count and I want to see how the batter fared against the Cub pitcher during that AB.
  6. If a train leaves Chicago at 9 AM, could you and Dusty be on it?
  7. Sounds like a good question for Jayson Stark. Satchel Paige threw 3 innings for the KC A's in 1965 at a reported age of 58. Minnie Minosa had 2 AB for the White Sox in 1980 when he was 57. Although these were both largely publicity stunts, either one might be part of the oldest combined AB. I did some research (bored at work). Paige started and threw 3 innings for the A's on September 25, 1965. The opponent was the Boston Red Sox. They were a young team, however, and from my research (i.e. checking out the awesome site retrosheet.org), the oldest player he faced was Eddie Broussard, who was 33 at the time. This would put the combined age at 91--but you have to remember that Paige's true age was always a source of controversy. When Minosa pinch-hit in 1980 the oldest pitcher he faced was 26 year old Frank Tanana, which makes that combined AB only 83 years. Thanks! I wonder if there are any 40 year old match ups. Man, Paige was amazing. I wish he could have been in MLB the whole time.
  8. Joe was a heck of a player. I remember his little glove that he used, it was tiny at the time. Hawk played on a driveway for too long in his career and that's a huge shame. I always compare Vlad to Andre.
  9. Illinois lost the national championship game in the first half... I think they only shot like 27% in the first half. Their second half shooting improved as well as their defense in the second. To me, they were a streaky shooting team all last year. I will always blame your school for giving NC another Championship. The refs put them there and I wanted you guys to rip it out of their grubby little blue hands.
  10. Question of the day: Who will Burnitz enter into serious talks with next? Japan. This is pretty funny and I wonder if it's money or him possibly being platooned is what's dragging these deals.
  11. You have some serious contract envy. If the Cubs kept Reed would Dusty feel the need to play Grissom instead or does Reed have enough AB's to be Dustyproof? I have absolutely no interest in Clement. I would think the addition of Reed would mean Grissom would not be making the team at all. We don't need 6½ OF'ers True. I was just thinking if the Cubs traded Pierre who would be in CF.
  12. Oh God each win in this conference is going to be tough. Going to one of those Midwestern schools is going to be a tough place to win.
  13. So Jody comes back to the roost. Welcome back Mr. Davis!
  14. I have no problem with these guys getting a raise.
  15. Yeah. Someone explain to me what the big deal is? Perez has the arm of Zues...the speed of Apollo and the looks of Helen of Troy what's not to like?
  16. This kind of thinking will never land you the Cub GM job.
  17. I hope I get a chance to see Mulholland pitch to Julio Franco. I wonder if that would be the highest combined age between a pitcher and hitter in MLB history?
  18. Hendry catches another Pokemon! Augiemon...return! Does this Restovich play defense and is it any good? What postions? I have a feeling that may be the big difference between Grissom and Restovich. I'd love to have a guy on the bench that can come to the plate and hit a home run. Also, what worries me is if Baker/Hendry think Murton is going to need a defensive replacement. Again, if Grissom proves he can play there is no doubt in my mind he gets the 25th spot over Restovich.

  20. they should, they have virtually every team in division I. Hey a third and they are the old guard. The new guys are trying to sneak in there but the original ones are still the best! :D And let me add that in football the BE only has 8 teams when most have 12. just kiddin ya. Actually what percent is 16 of X amount of teams? I think the Big 10 ought to be pretty interesting this year. I always like Michigan St but Illinois seems like they never lose. I would also be curious to see how good Indiana would be without Davis. Wisconsin is one of those teams you never want to play while Ohio St still hasn't lost yet and seems to get no respect. You kids ought to have a fun season. The Big 10 has a Conference Playoff Championship now, right?
  21. Actually played well and had a positive impact for the Cubs. Also, their numbers actually went up after joining the Cubs after a few down years.

  23. Bobby Hill is most similar at age 27 to Patsy Gharrity. I hope that's a dude. :D I guess its 20-20 hindsite, but I am not positive that Hill is/was a head-and-shoulders better pro than Harris was in 03'. Plus, sending him back down to the minors may have allowed him to maintain his value enough such that the Ramirez-Lofton deal got done. Had he languished on the bench in Chicago, his value might have dropped. Its probably too close to call. In Grissom's case, there seem to be better options. You don't think Hill was better than this: .183/.255/.229/.484 That's what Harris put up in around 145 PA's. You'd be very hard pressed to find someone worse. Point taken. But how did Harris do in 2002, the year before he made the team?: .305 / .355 / .411 Plus, he played well for FL after we released him in 03': .286 .412 .286 Point is, I don't think anyone could have predicted that large a decline. I think it was that Harris was used wrong by Baker more than anything. Baker plays fadded vets way too much and this is a good example.
  24. We can always count on you, Vance. If anything, I'm dependable. Those are some of the worst fake lips I've ever seen. Her doctor must be the same one that can't seem to fix Jeff's shoulder. It might be the same guy that did Bing Crosbys wife's facelift. I don't think she can close her eyes.
  25. Wish I could get disrespected like that. I think Clark is a pretty good analyst.
