  1. My thoughts EXACTLY. Why is it that you tell your players to foul down 4 with 1:20 left, but when you're down 3 with 50 seconds left, you play for the defensive stop? It makes no sense whatsoever!! That game unfolded like all the ND/Cuse games at the Joyce have the last four years: Irish make a bunch of stupid mistakes, but threes keep them in it till the end when Gerry Mac proves too much. I am NOT going to miss him. My two college basketball teams' record since December 30th: 0-7. :( ND recruited Mac hard and he would have gone there in a second if it was within driving distance of Scranton. I'm curious on what ND is going to do about Brey if the Irish miss the NCAA's again.
  2. Yeah but S.Florida has a decent hoops program too. That makes a big difference IMO.
  3. Because everyone knows that he is the main reason the Cubs traded Sosa to Baltimore and blame him for the move.
  4. You have to look at his whole career. He hit like 760 in Little League.
  5. That's funny...when you evaluate Jones numbers quickly they don't look good but you have to look at the whole career. Who's the one that is looking at the numbers too quickly Jim because it's not me. Extentions for Baker and Hendry would be a good idea IMO. I liken it to not being able to move Alex Gonzalez or Alou and just keeping them around while Tejada/Vlad were available. This team is going to be stuck with the Baker contract and end up getting Bruce Kimm back to manage because the good choices will not be available when Bakers contract expires.
  6. Stole or bought? :) Look at Hendrys face....he's looking at the name on the jersey like he aquired the wrong guy or something.
  7. Scott Boras (Weaver's agent) would beg to differ. He wouldn't let the Dodgers turn Dreifort into a closer, what makes you think he allow any team to turn (Dream) Weaver into a closeR? I didn't say he would be, I said that I thought he would make a good closer. I'm sure because of money reasons he won't unless he falls on his face this year and the Closers keep geting 10 a year.
  8. It was a football decision. Why since Memephis has a better program right now? S.Florida has the potential to be a very big player and when the Big East invited VTech they too were not that good but look at them now. Florida is a hot bed for talent and it also helps recruiting for the rest of the conference in that area. I would like to see the BE add Memphis and move on to an all Sports conference while dropping the just basketball schools but the real problem is who would keep the Big East name.
  9. Macias would have been a decent 25th guy it's just that Baker just does not understand that concept.
  10. Does Tampa have a SS since they moved Upton to the OF? I see Cedeno being moved if that's the case and as others have mentioned Lugos cost is going to be steep in players traded for him and contract if the Cubs sign him. I'd like to see a Lugo/Walker middle but that isn't going to happen.
  11. I wish him well. I still think he'll be a 15HR/275 hitter.
  12. Yeah, Restovich is the guy I was thinking of. If Hendry fails this year I think it's bye bye time. I don't. As mention in another thread, by I BELIEVE Bruce Miles, he believes Hendry is safe through 2008. I'm sure will stay around...I meant it's bye bye time from me ever defending him again.
  13. I still think that Weaver could be a stud closer.
  14. Mabry can play 3rd and may be the reason the Cubs released Macias.
  15. I've heard this several times about Walker, and the relationship is flimsy at best IMO. Grudz is on his 4th team in 5 years, and he had some collusion complaints when he left Chicago(worse than Walker's comments IMO), and no one refers to him as a malcontent who nobody wants despite him ending up in KC. Why is that? Hey Hobbs....no pitcher of your gun yet? I wonder if Hendry was offered more last trading deadline?
  16. Watching him pitch, it's not completely him not throwing strikes. It's umpires not knowing how to judge a ball that moves that much. When it hits the front of the plate at the guy's belt and is at his ankles as it crosses the back of it it's tough to call. Once umps get a feel for his pitches (gets Maddux-like calls) he'll be set. Yes, but how many pitchers get Madux-like calls? Maddux and Glavine...and not that many others. Most have to overcome inconsistent umps. I always thought Clemens got a ridiculous amount of strike calls thrown his way just because of who he is. I agree. When he threw that piece of broken bat at Piazza and the ump called a strike I knew something was up.
  17. So they look like "Million Dollar Babies"?
  18. From everything I have ever read about Patterson I do not recall anyone from the Cub organization saying anything bad about CPatts attitude. I also remember Hendry saying something about Corey being a really nice kid. IMO, some times nice kids tend to listen to too many people and that may be why Corey hasn't found his own identity and approach to hitting.
  19. Yeah, Restovich is the guy I was thinking of. If Hendry fails this year I think it's bye bye time.
  20. I hate dumb people. Generally I just dislike people from New York. City or State? What if a NY guy liked the same NFL team as you do?
  21. Can I lock this post? :D Maybe Mr. Hendry has found a diamond in the rough in one of the NRI guys he signed? I hope.
  22. The Pats are a machine. It's obvious that the Pats coach was the brains behind Parcells and Billy wouldn't have won anything with out him IMO.
  23. I reread it and I see what you're saying.
  24. I don't see how. Please explain to me how Hairston if he is given the leadoff would be better than Pierre?
  25. It depends on the situation. I think the upgrade between Pierre and who the Cubs had in CF will be about 1.8 wins higher than last year. I that difference will be higher than what the Cubs had at leadoff last year as Hairston led the team in leadoff PAs and what he did as getting on base last year. Last year, Hairston had 44.4% of the ABs leading off and had an OBP of .344, I think Pierre will likely be between .344 and .350. Any offensive upgrade at leadoff will be destroyed by having Neifi hitting 2nd, if they decide to go that route. True but Hairston (Ramon Martinez#2) IMO doesn't seem to be an everyday player because of his injuries. This puts a bigger strain on the leadoff spot and assures Perez being in one of the 2 top spots. Pierre seems to be able to play a lot of games per season and at least gives the Cubs a constant leadoff guy.
