  1. I wouldn't consider Providence a North Dakota St though. If they are on they are a very tough team.
  2. I'll take 10 out of the top 100 (6 in top 50) for year 1 of Weis recruiting :) They have 6 out of the Rivals top 100 and 6 out of the Scout top 100... I think those are both more credible sources, since Lemming is known to be a Notre Dame fan, which skews his rankings. Also, it is now official... 4 star QB and top 10 QB (nationally) Pat Devlin has decommitted from Miami and will be attending PSU. Huge pickup late in the game... next up is one of the top OL prospects, Antonio Logan-El, announcing today, followed by a mammoth DL, Phillip Taylor. I think PSU could use Logan-El more, but he's probably about a 60% shot to go to Maryland. Taylor, according to many, has already verballed to PSU, so I'd put him at about 90% to PSU over Maryland. Rivals.com is just as bad as Lemming, IMO, but not for scewing based on ND. They scew based on upholding their own rankings. Either way, all these rankings really don't mean a thing. The rankings should be made three years from now. I think the key is evaluation by the coaches. If you have "experts" saying this kid is a can't miss top 20 player and he's a dud you might have shot yourself in the foot if you had another kid that was better but didn't go after him. I admit Syracuse doesn't get many top 50 kids in football but whenever they do the player usually ends up average or below average. If you have High School coaches that you know you can trust to help evaluate the kids it would certainly help IMO. Who had the number one class 3 and 4 years ago?
  3. Out of curiousity....who is the Bulls biggest rival?
  4. At least Bonds is consistant.
  5. Nice post CFP. I think the only way the Cubs will win is if playeers like Jones, Barrett and Pierre have career years and the rest have their average ones while the Cubs have an injury free year.
  6. I suppose it can't hurt, but personally I think there's a 0% chance of him signing with anyone other than NY, Houston or Texas. He's already made his point about wanting to be close to his family and it's pretty clear that at this stage of his career, he holds ALL of the cards in deciding where he's going to play and it will be by his rules alone. I'm pretty sure he'd say no too but why not think outside the box and take a chance? I'd buy his family arguement if he stayed in Texas but NY or Boston would be for money and a chance to win.
  7. I'm more excited about Miller. Weaver was just someone to keep us in games but if healthy, Miller maybe dominating. With the Cubs off of his short list, his demands will certainly have to go down. One of the other teams will probably get him relatively cheap for one year. I don't know about you, but I'm sick of "If healthy" be attached to every player on this team, especially pitching. Its like we are the Red Cross of the MLB. 90+ years and we are hoping 2 guys will be healthy enough to pitch, and counting on a 40 year old broken down maddux. I hate being a pessimist this early, but for the money, the pitching scares me. It leaves the injury excuse to be used again yet one more time.
  8. I'd like to see Hendry give Clemens a call and see if there is any interest, it can't hurt to call.
  9. I'd like the Cubs moves if I were LaRussa too.
  10. If I'm not mistaken, the Cubs have had just 39 men on the roster since the Patterson trade. Kess is correct, but Miller has not yet been added to the 40-man roster. His contract requires only that he be added to the 40-man roster sometime before opening day. Which means that he could be placed on the 60-day DL when he's added to the roster. So does that mean they can add another guy on the 60 man roster?
  11. I would say Pittsburg if there wasn't a bye weekend so I'm going to go with the Seahawks.
  12. This move is like flushing 1 million dollars down the toilet. There's a huge upside on spending a grand on lotto tickets but I'm not going to waste the money.
  13. I see Miller as a one inning pitcher and once he's on the 25 man Baker will run him down and he'll be on the DL in a month and out for the season. IMO it's a waste of money.
  14. It doesn't look so good right now. They have to beat a top 10 team sometime as we've played 1,4,6 and 10 so far this year.
  15. I think that it seems like the Big East has a big game every night. With 64 teams in the conference, they had better have a big game every night. That's funny you say that. In football the Big East only has 8 teams while most conferences have 12 so I suppose I could say the same thing about that during the Football season.
  16. I'm thinking the Mets are going to get Weaver if they don't get Zito.
  17. Why don't QB's pump fake more often? That was a nice pass and catch for a TD by Pittsburg.
  18. Personally I don't see Wood starting until July or August at the earliest and maybe not even at all this year. I see him working in the pen so he can get ready to sign a big deal with another team next year. i think you're way off base with this assertion. "july or august at the earliest"? the reports i've seen mention opening day at the earliest and mid-may at the latest. furthermore, the only way he gets a payday is if he pitches 200 innings and returns to his old form. you can't have it both ways, either he returns in august and goes to the pen or he gets a big payday as a starter. seems like you're taking this wood pessimism to extraordinary lengths, cuse. I see some team giving him big bucks in 2007 and after the outragious deals of late you don't think someone will step up and pay Wood some serious cash? I don't think he'll have pitch 200 innnings to get that big payday. Haven't you noticed the Cubs have of late had an earlier ETA then actually happens? I hope you're right Sully, but I just don't see Wood being ok to start until July. I would love to be wrong and you can tell me if I am when Wood does start. Let me add....Wood starting and staying a starter not a couple of starts and then back on the DL or pen.
  19. Personally I don't see Wood starting until July or August at the earliest and maybe not even at all this year. I see him working in the pen so he can get ready to sign a big deal with another team next year. Is this a gut feeling? Maybe it's me just being a pessimst because of the way the Cubs say a pitcher will be out for X and it always seems to be a 3X type of thing. I also wonder how Wood really feels about Rothchild/Baker and Chicago and if that would give him an incentive to come back to Chicago or go for the highest bidder. I'm also thinking that Wood may opt for a one year deal to prove he's ok if he does heal too late in the year. If Wright can get the money he got Kerry is going to get quite a haul. I'm not sure the Cubs can give Wood, ARam and Lee all the money they are going to ask for.
  20. Depending on what prospects the Indians give up I think this is a very good trade for the Red Sox. IMO, Crisp is basically on teh same par as Damon. Last two seasons stats for Damon AVG/OBP/SLG 304/380/477 and 316/366/439. Crisp 297/344/446 and 300/345/465. Offesnively Crisp is a bit below Damon but defensively I'm pretty sure he is an upgrade. He also costs 11 million dollars less than Damon. Frankly I like what the Red Sox have been doing this offseason. They upgraded their defense substantially at third, first and center, and they added to their pitching staff. A lineup of Crisp, Loretta, Ortiz, Manny, Varitek, Lowell, Nixon, Snow/Youklis, AGonII is very formidable. Don't forget their rotation as of now is Schilling, Beckett, Wells, Clement, Arroyo, Wakefield, Papelbon. If anyone is going to say that the Red Sox gave up too much, I think they must be conceding the division to the Yankees. In my mind whenever a team has a chance to win the World Series, like I think the Red Sox due, it is the organizations duty to do whatever they have to do without trading away its entire future. In all reality this Crisp deal is basically Renteria and Mota for Crisp and prospects. Definitely not a bad deal in my mind. I thought the Red Sox were trying the trade the whinning beer drinking lazy pig Wells?
  21. Personally I don't see Wood starting until July or August at the earliest and maybe not even at all this year. I see him working in the pen so he can get ready to sign a big deal with another team next year.
  22. Some have mentioned Weaver as a very good person to fill the 4 or 5 spot in the rotation. I would like to see the Cubs go after him if they feel uncomfortable with Hill, Rusch or Guzman or want to trade Williams for another bat.
  23. I know what you're saying that Illinois beat Georgetown, but please don't tell me you're one of those people that thinks Illinois is better than Duke this year. I have a friend that has been calling everyone he knows saying Duke should be ranked behind Illinois right now. hard to say who is better - I think Illinois could beat Duke when they play well. That is, Duke is far from great and is beatable (obviously). Illinois hasn't been too impressive lately but is good enough to be dangerous. I wouldn't argue they should be ranked ahead of Duke though. It's just my opinion, but I think that Illinois, like Louisville this year, is one of the most overrated teams around. They can be dangerous if they get hot, but Georgetown just showed that they have the same power. I haven't watched too many Illinois games this year, but from the few that I have seen, it looks like just a two man game with Brown and Augustine. And Iowa showed how to shut that down. I don't know if Florida has played a tough enough schedule to take over number one right now. And UConn and Nova have lost recently, so I don't see either of them making the jump. I think that Duke will hang on to the #1 ranking, but just barely. As of this week, they have every first place vote in the AP poll, and all but one in the coaches poll. You do know that Illinois beat that Georgetown team by 15 right? It's all about matchups IMO. The Princeton Offense worked against Duke.
  24. No, statistically and visually he's below average. His rate has consistently been below average, about the same as Todd Walker's maligned defense. He has good speed, but takes bad routes to balls, and has no arm to speak of. So maybe if we pitched in a got him a GPS, would that help? I think this is an interesting trade. I like what the Indians have done with these two moves. It makes me feel good that Hendry lacks any type of vision to be able to make moves like this.....really....honest.
  25. This question makes me feel uncomfortable. I think Jones would be a decent 6 but not a 5. The same with Walker.
