  1. I agree but if Hendry has a thing for Kearns he may make that move. According to Bruce the Cubs are happy with Murton so maybe that'll stop this from happening. ARam is in a contract year, would you make that move and trade him for Marte and others?
  2. So I wonder if the Cubs would move Murton and 2 pitchers for Kearns and Freel. I wonder if the Reds aren't feeling so good about Freel after his DWI and would be more willing to move him and Murton would give them an OF to replace Kearns. I feel this might happen because of the Hendry love for Kearns.
  3. For the full article, click here. Don Buford? Isn't that Damon Buford's father? Yes.
  4. I wonder if the Red Sox would go after Michaels?
  5. Ohman is a commodity. I do that in a heartbeat. But then I need to dump Pierre. BTW, Michaels hits righties just fine. Lefties who can get outs in the late innings are more valuable the 4th OF (besides we have Mabry/Grissom/Restovich  ) who would force Murton to the bench. Murton is a very similar player to Michaels, and the best things is....Murton is 7 yrs younger then Michaels. So while his numbers may look great, I don't buy into the Michaels hype. This is a player who couldn't BEAT OUT the likes such legendary players like Ledee, Chavez, Lofton, Byrd.... And no, I wouldn't do a Ohman for Michaels deal. Maybe Bartosh and Wellemeyer but not Will Ohman. Is Bartosh still on the 40 man?
  6. I could see the Cubs trading Murton and a pitcher for Kearns.
  7. 2003 Marlins: 15th in MLB with 333 OBP. Pierre had 65 steals, but he was also caught 20 times. They had 150 SBs as a team. 2005 Sox: They were 24th in baseball last year with a 322 OBP. Podsednik had 59 steals, caught 23 times. Aside from him, they really didn't have a whole lot of speed. That being said, I hope they are going to try and manufacture runs, because if we go into games hoping to hit the 3-run homer to win, we are in BIG TROUBLE...you must agree with that... :?: I'll be waiting for at least one 3 run home run every game. Pierre and Walker get on base and Lee rips a bomb. No need to run into outs ahead of Lee and Ramirez. What if Pierre is on 1st and Perez is up with 2 outs?
  8. You forget, at the end of 2004 he opted not to get the surgery, and just rest and recovery. But in at the end of 2005 he opted for the surgery which other pitchers like Morris had and bounced back. It is very realistic to assume we may get 2 MONTHS of quality starts from this guy in months like August/September when it can REALLY make a difference. Thumbs up on this signing. I hope you're right too TGB but it's not just the surgury but maybe he has been doing something wrong mechanically that caused this problem. Did he fix that too or was it because of another reason is why his shoulder was hurt. Also, I still don't think Morris has really bounced back from his surgury to the form he once had.
  9. I like seeing kids hit in different situations. I think it's good when a kid that gets pitched around in HS can lay off certain pitches and zone in on what he needs to look for to drive. I agree with your assessment that's it's tough to judge these types of things due to different variables but that is the scouts job IMO and what scares me is that the Cubs do not know what to look for when they evaluate this type of hitter. From what I've read doesn't Harvey have a poor knowledge of the strike zone? I have a lot of faith in Richie Zisk or Von Joshua to help him conquer this weakness but I have to wonder what they saw in him over Milledge.
  10. BH05 I hope you're right because Mr. Hendry seems to have a lot of money tied up in injured pitchers. I wonder if Wood is throwing the ball 60 feet without pain? If not I would have to assume he would be behind Miller in rehabbing his shoulder and that would be June at the earliest.
  11. I think a balance approach is a good way to go as long as the scouts are comfortable with it. Do they know how to look for this in a college or high school kid? I just feel uncomfortable knowing that Murton was a Boston draft and it would make me thrilled to see the Cubs come up with some of their own drafted kids that could do this sort of thing.
  12. What does Hughes consider the Cubs approach Bruce? If what he is saying is true then how come they seem to go after the toolsy types players?
  13. I do think it's ironic that a guy that might not even pitch one inning for the Cubs gets 1M and that's ok but some guy like Mabry gets 1M and that's a bad thing. I'm not a big Mabry fan but at least he'll be able to contribute while IMO the best you can hope for out of Miller is a Williamson like performance for a month or two tops. I'd just rather spend this money on some impact players and forget the "bargins" every stinking year. Miller was hurt and signed with Boston and pitched how much? He gets hurt with the same injury or close it and is out for almost the whole year. I just don't see the value of this. Yeah, there's upside but a very slight chance of it while still spending 1M on a guy that is going to be on the DL. I hope I'm wrong but I'm sick of these kinds of deals and once again Hendry is clinging to an injury ridden player thus keeping his "We had injuries" theme to continue when they fail.
  14. I take LeBron because he makes his teammates better.
  15. Oh, they would have? How did they do against MSU this past season? Notre Dame will not join the Big Ten after watching the mighty Penn State go from a perennial powerhouse as an indy to getting knocked around like a good team should. In the Big Ten, ND would be the next Minnesota. I forgot....who won the Big 10 last year? My point was that PSU regressed to the means. It's not a knock against the program, just proof of how tough the league is in regards to football. I understand but they blew through the Big 10 in 94 if I remember correctly. Every team in the Big 10 has had it's struggles since Penn State has joined. I think Penn State is going to be a force in the Big 10 now that Joe has relaxed a bit.
  16. I think any baseball book has it's pluses and minuses and you take out of it whatever may make you better weather it's being a GM, Coach/Manager or a fan.
  17. You can't include me with this moneyball thing. I've never read it and I highly suspect it was really written by Mark Bellhorn to further his career. I agree with you that there are many aspects to consider when you are building a team just as there are when posters steriotype posters. We all believe different things about building a team and some lean in one direction and some another but IMO it's never an all or nothing type deal.

  19. I like to bust Hughes chops as much as the next fan but I agree with you that he would be a fine GM for the Reds.
  20. Isn't Beattie one of the guys that helped ruin Baltimore?
  21. Scout: 2004: USC (the top recruits were Fred Davis, Dwayne Jarrett and Keith Rivers) 2003: USC (including Reggie Bush and LenDale White who were only 4-star prospects; the top recruits were QB JD Booty and WR Whitney Lewis who has been a big bust) 2002: Texas (the top recruits were Vince Young and Justin Blalock) Rivals: 2004: USC 2003: LSU (the biggest recruits were RBs Justin Vincent and Alley Broussard, WRs Dwayne Bowe and Craig Davis and QB JaMarcus Russell) 2002: Texas Thanks Raisin and those are the last top 1 teams in the country.
  22. First year in a very competitive conference for DePaul. I think it'll only help in the long run. Yep...no Purdues or Penn States to beat up on in this league.
  23. When the teams are close in terms of talent, Pistons. Knicks are up there, too. Bouncing the Knicks out of the playoffs was a Chicago Spring tradition not too long ago. Cavs too, for that matter. :D Still have that second city complex do we? :D Thanks. It helps when your team is good doesn't it?
  24. Would you accept Syracuse in the Big Ten if ND isn't interested in joining? I'm sure many might prefer Pitt or West Virginia so I was curious how you in the Big Ten country would feel about it.
