  1. Guzman will have a 1.70 ERA at Iowa and the Cubs call him up and Dusty puts him in with bases loaded and no outs against the Cards. That's all my tea leaves say right now.
  2. While you're at it, why not ask for a money tree and a rainbow made out of cotton candy? Do people still eat cotton candy?
  3. I considered Huff a roid suspect when he finished June with only 5 HR on the season, but then he went on to hit another 17 in Jul/Aug/Sep, so now I'm not so sure. Maybe they stopped testing after a certain point? Or....he was already tested and knew he could return to what he knew. Man, this just bugs the heck out of me that this is even an issue.
  4. 2 losses in a row to UConn and Villanova. At least we get a breather playing @ #9 Pitt on Monday. :x
  5. Any Philly people out there that have seen Michaels play?
  6. You forgot Villanova.
  7. Jack of all trades, master of none. I think that Walker could play third as well or better than Huff.
  8. Another good way to beat Duke is to take the ball at Sheldon Williams early and often. Get him in foul trouble like today, and Duke is in a lot of trouble. McRoberts is going to be a great player someday, but he's not ready to handle the lane all by himself yet. Relating to that point, is it just me or is this the 3rd year in a row Duke is playing a 7 man rotation that gets hurt with foul trouble? For a school like Duke you'd think they'd be able to fix that given that long a stretch. That might hurt them in the NCAA's if they don't have the usual refs that travel with the team.
  9. I take a minor league managers record different than I do a Major League manager. I know here in Syracuse the Jays always had a lot of young good prospects here and they didn't win but a lot of them went on to help the Jays win the World Series. I want a good teacher at the minors. Agreed, I was just throwing some information. I know in the past it's been said more than once down here that it's more about delevoping players than getting wins, although wins are nice. Wins are always nice to have. The fans around here are always annoyed because the Jays don't have a bunch of AAAA players to help the team win but I'd by far rather see a good prospect.
  10. The Big 10 is first in conference RPI, ACC second, and the Big East a tight 3rd. IMO, the B10 is the strongest conference this year followed by the Big East. Well Wisconsin just lost to a 10-9 North Dakota St. team at home so this doesn't bode too well for the Big 10. If WV beats UCLA the Big East may sneak into the top spot RPI wise. UW is going to drop big time now that they've lost 3 key players to injury. Probably but this loss will hurt them big time when it comes to selection time. I think Georgetown showed a way to beat Duke. Leave the lane open and back door. Let Paulus shoot. Redick doesn't know how to pass the ball so just get ready for a shot or help out. I think a lot of teams have a chance to win it all.
  11. There's a separate thread about it in rants.

  13. The Syracuse kid (Paulus) loses the ball and Georgetown wins!!!! I watched this kid play in the tinest of gyms and to see him lose here is just glorious!!!!
  14. If you think this is bad, watch a game at Cameron... it's like playing the Harlem Globetrotters. Hoya fans getting ready to storm the court! :D Not if they just let Duke drive the court and get layups...and make their free throws.
  15. I've been watching the last 8 mins and I don't think they've gotten much benefit. There were a couple of strips I was surprised they didn't get calls on. I can't remember a Duke game when they had more fouls than the other team. There's another no call that goes Dukes way...Paulis throws it out of bounds and it's Dukes ball.
  16. Olney was on ESPN talking about the Benson trade and said the Mets might sign Weaver to a 1-year deal. That would be a smart move and they could sign Zito when he's a free agent.
  17. Is it me or is it just Duke that gets these calls? All the flops and they get to hand check every game too.
  18. Unless it's a hobo. Then you're fine. Give it up, kids. You can't have it both ways - bashing if there is trouble and no suspension/kicking someone off, or trouble followed by a suspension/kicking someone off the team. From "The Bowden Way" published 2001. Sounds just like he does when you take the time and talk with him. But you probably never have had that chance or taken that opportunity. If a kid can't make it in the pros it's best IMO for Bowden to try to help the kid the best he can. A lot of these kids need somebody to steer them in the right direction and stay on them and by keeping them around Bowden can do just that.
  19. I don't think that Lofton, at this stage of his career, is equal to Pierre. I think Jones is going to be okay in RF and surpise a lot of people. Jones has to put up better numbers than Burnitz did and I hope you're right Btb.
  20. That's what I'm thinking is if Baker has Perez in there and not Hairston or Walker. I would rather have Walker in the two spot but with Pierre being lefthanded I'm curious if Baker would bat two lefties in a row. I pray to christ Cedeno hits .300 this season, with no slumps. I'd just rather see Baker gone. IMO it just makes things so much better.
  21. I can't and/or won't guarantee anything with Baker in charge. You can guarentee logic won't be used. I've been anti-Huff from the begining so I'm curious on how he is going to do this year. I still think he's a DH type and not worth 7 to play in the NL. For one year, not a big deal to me. Let him go this offseason and try something else. Like BbB said, he wasn't the first choice, but now he may be the best. Next offseason, the list of available OFs will probably be very similar with the same guys rumored to be traded this year either being a FA or being in their last year of their current deals. Guys like Dunn, Abreu, Sheff are more likely to be traded, and guys like Guillen, Carlos Lee, Floyd, and Bradley will be FAs. That a lot of prospects for one year and a guy IMO will hit 250/330 and butcher the OF.
  22. I agree. That's why I'm on the Weaver bandwagon and the Cubs can trade Williams and Murton plus others to get something impact...at the worst Floyd.

  25. List all the posters that stole your idea and hire JC to sue them. I'd rather give Weaver a 3/24-27 than Clement. I'd rather give that to Weaver than anyone who's gotten similar recently. I'd like to see Jimmy go in that direction or as Sully wrote a while back hand the ball to Hill and let him prove he belongs. Why is it everytime I write something I think of Baker and get upset because I know Baker wouldn't let Hill struggle for any length of time like the Cubs let Maddux do his first year. I think they are way too spoiled after Prior and Z to be patient with a young pitcher.
