  1. I wonder if Baltimore is worried that Manny would demand a trade/raise or be a problem after Tejada wanting out.
  2. Maybe that's why he's sacked so often! I think that the Texans need a mobile QB with that line. Either that or get some better linemen.
  3. Hendry had to match contract offers for Jones (3 years) to get him. If Pie is ready next year, Jones will be traded. There should be a few teams that want him at $10 million over 2 years since he had better offers than that this year. But would a team really risk losing Jones after 1 year since he could demand a trade or free agency if traded? But seriously, I think Jones is exactly the type of player Hendry wants, and he gave him that 3 year deal because he wants him here for 3 years. I really hope you're wrong because if you're not I hope Mr. Hendry finds work elsewhere.
  4. Who knows what's really going on. But my impression is that Hendry offered Prior for Tejada/Bedard long ago, but Baltimore demanded more. Rumor had it that Hendry upped it to Prior/Hill for Tejada/Bedard, but Baltimore said no. Would seem reasonable that Baltimore wants either wants Pie in addition to Prior/Hill, or in place of Hill but still in addition to Prior. Tejada/Bedard for Prior/Pie? No thanks. Some will pile on Hendry for even considering any Prior deal, others will pile on for not being willing to trade Prior/Pie for Tejada/Bedard. But I for one have zero interest in packaging Prior and Pie for Tejada and Bedard. I agree and a big no to that trade.
  5. I think the Cubs will get a B prospect at best for Patterson unless there are 3 teams that really want him then maybe Hendry can get a decent prospect him.
  6. I really don't know the answer to this. But I'm sure it would cause him to miss at least a couple of starts because of it. Ah, you have to know the answer to that question. Why, he'd chuck all the wood that a woodchuck could, if a woodchuck could chuck wood! :D Whoops, Jim was supposed to answer that one, wasn't he? Well, I think he has a few more left that some of us would like to know the answer to. Nice try, Jim  So BbB is really JjJ? JumbojunkdealerJim?
  7. So if the Marlins were to ask you to trade either Prior or Z for Cabrera you would trade Z? I'd trade Prior.
  8. I've never heard you say anything like this about Prior before, or at least I don't remember it. Sorry, I'm just writing about what I'm seeing here, and I have to include your "he's a quitter" commentary into the piling on Prior phenomenon that has been going on here ever since his name was rumored. It seems to me that Andy and Co. have just perfected the "run him out of town" strategy by getting fans to start believing the bogus reports on these guys. I haven't wrote anything about the quitting thing about Prior and yeah, it's a feeling thing and I may be wrong. I see a lot of young pitchers that have a lot of success and when they do get their butts handed to them they don't react well in a lot of cases. They get used to being dominate and what I like to see is that competitive fire and you're not going to get the best of me attitude. It's something I have to look at as a High School coach and it's part of knowing the person pitching. Granted, I do not know Prior in any way other than what we see but I believe that I can recognize certain aspects of a pitchers motions because I have to do that all the time. I don't like the "It's just not my day" type thinking and it isn't just mechanics that break down. Again it's just my opinion and this is part of the reason I've always been receptive on trading Prior. I have always been open about trading him if the deal helps the Cubs. I don't want him run out of town in any way shape or form as I don't want Patterson to be run out either even though IMO he is.
  9. Wow, that's just...I don't even know how to respond to that. You're saying you aren't high on Prior because of your perception of his body language on games when he is being hit (which, if you look at his results, is pretty rare anyway). The problem is you can't, and don't know that about Bedard. He's older than Prior, and not nearly as accomplished. I just can't see how people can have bad things to say about Prior, and then think Bedard can be anywhere close to an adequate replacement. Anything bad you can say about Prior is doubled or tripled when talking about the other guy. He hasn't thrown a healthy 200+ innings? He's been bothered by injuries? He's been ineffective from time to time? He has yet to live up to the hype? Any of that stuff people try and lay on Prior can be said about the other guy, who, again, is older, and therefore has less room for error. This is all just so baffling to me, how the Cubs inclusion of Prior in these talks has actually caused people to start talking bad about the guy, when nobody was complaining after he battled back from a freak broken elbow that many thought was season, if not career, threatening. It literally baffles me how much so many people have turned on Prior. So now the list is Sammy, Wood, Patterson, and Prior. Who will be the next whipping boy who fails to live up to fan's expectations and therefore is discredited and run out the door? It's got to be Zambrano if/when he has a down season, although it could easily be Ramirez if he gets injured again, or maybe Lee if he reverts to career form. I can't believe how little people think of the Cubs players who actually do some good for the team, as opposed to all those replacable role players who continue to be overpaid and overplayed by the Cubs. I've never been a big Prior fan gooney....never. I think he is going to be a good pitcher but I've never thought he was the second coming so please don't include me in a group that turns on players. I've never been that big on Wood either and that was from the start also. I am against Hendry giving Prior away and I want quaity for him but as I've said before I'd trade any player on the Cubs if it makes them better. I've always thought Z would be dominate and argued that point back when posters debated who's better Z or Cruz. Again, Hendry has to be sure that Bedard is over his injuries and can handle being a #2 or 3 if Wood ever comes back and his job may depend on his making the right decision in this case. I don't believe I have a "Whipping Boy" thing as you have mentioned. I feel less passionate about certain players but never have I had a "Whipping Boy" Unless you consider Macias an actual baseball player of course.
  10. But, if you honestly wanted to move Prior, wouldn't it make more sense to open up the bidding for his services to the other 29 teams in the league rather than just the Orioles, who don't seem to be giving Prior the respect he deserves? What would other teams pay for a guy who has #1 stuff? Would Phily give up Abreu, who basically is as good or better than Tejada at a position on the field that the Cubs have a much bigger hole? Right now, Baltimore is rejecting deals for Tejada that seem lopsided in their favor. If Prior is going to get dealt, I'd like to see a deal that was lopsided in our favor rather than the other way around. Good point and yes. I just don't see Hendry thinking like that anymore.
  11. I'm not sure they were underrated. They were the top ranked o-line in the coutnry before the season, had several all-american's on the the line, and all 5 of them are expected to be drafted into the nfl. What I mean is that they don't get the press/credit the others (Young, Lienhart, Bush and even White) are getting.
  12. With all the Patterson talk, sounds like Prior and C-Pat for Tejada and Bedard might get it done. I hope not. I might be able to live with that deal. I have to know that Bedard is going to be sure fire 2 though. No Prior, No Prior, No Prior. Why? It's not like Maddux ever did anything after the Cubs traded him! Seriously though, I'm just not a big Prior fan as many are. I don't like what I see from him when teams are hitting him. Granted, he has a lot success and potential to be a wonderful pitcher but IMO he's a quitter when he's being beat. Again...this is my opinion.
  13. With all the Patterson talk, sounds like Prior and C-Pat for Tejada and Bedard might get it done. I hope not. I might be able to live with that deal. I have to know that Bedard is going to be sure fire 2 though.
  14. I would probably give up 3-4 of the guys on most top 10 lists, while maybe throwing in a current bullpen arm and/or another lower ranked prospect. Would you give up Ohman along with Pie, Guzman and Hill? What kind of worries me is that the O's (Stockwell) know who is good and who isn't.
  15. The Cubs have Fontenant (sp) at Iowa though and he would be a decent backup.
  16. No. Might as well go after a guy like Mench or Ibanez who seemingly can be had somewhat easily. I'd probably rather trade Murton than Pie. But I wouldn't hesitate to trade Felix if he was the centerpiece (i.e. best player given up) of a Tejada deal. How many top prospects are you willing to give up for Tejada?
  17. Just like the Jedi were wrong about Anakin Skywalker being The Chosen One. :D I guess I'm not alone. I never saw Hendry's dark side until it was too late. Dal warned me but I didn't listen. Wait, Dal is Yoda?
  18. Isn't Pie a prospect? One thing that has me a little worried and that is if Hendry is on shaky ground with the Cubs. If he is would he trash the future and make a bold move to win now or is he in good standing and doesn't have to worry about having to make a trade that would rip all the prospects out of the system? I would like to have Tejada on the Cubs but I wouldn't want the O's to have all the top 4 or 5 prospects either. Not including Pawlick that is.
  19. Augie Ojeda life-size bobblehead doll. Fits on the dashboard of a Ford Festiva. It's so nice to have Augie back in our lives again isn't it? Maybe Baylor can replace Baker too. Do you remember the Festiva commercial? "It's a Ford....it's a Festiva...Have you driven a Fooord...lately?"
  20. Maybe I missed it but who are the players involved? I mean if it's Prior and Pie for Tejada I say no way.
  21. I know that I've had High School kids change their approach when we have players in scoring postion. Some just use a nice linedrive swing instead of a bit of an uppercut when no one is on. Some, try too hard and their mechanics break down a little. I had one kid that was incredible 2 strike and 2 out hitter. We had his stats and he hit 750 in two years when there were 2 outs but he hit 250 when there were 1 out or less. He never got a hit when there were more than 2 outs though. :D
  22. That's just silly. You have zero real knowledge of how the correspondance went down. On top of that, all indications from the glimpses of media coverage show us that Baltimore has a higher asking price for Tejada than the market is willing to pay (not just the Cubs, but all other interested parties). Why are people so quick to assume Hendry is to blame for not making deals happen? It takes two to tango they say, so folks need to stop pretending Hendry's dancing with himself. I wouldn't blame Hendry if this deal isn't made. I think the O's may be asking way too much for Tejada and I would rather Hendry go in another direction if that is the case. It's too bad that he can't package Walker and Patterson for a decent player, does Pittsburg have a CF and a 2nd baseman?
  23. So they don't do that just in football? Except for Tennessee of course, they play anyone.
  24. So he will have another good year in a couple for seasons? I think Patterson is way better than Walton. I think we'll see if it was the Cubs that screwed him up or MLB pitchers have him figured out.
