  1. At this point, I'm worried about what effect retaining him could have on the clubhouse. I have to think that the other players will be angry watching an obviously inferior player start at 2B instead of Walker. (I've given up any hope that the Cubs will, you know, actually play their best 2B at 2B) What I wonder about is what if Walker starts? Does Johnny B bat him 5th and Jones 2nd? Not that Baker would do something like that.
  2. I wonder if since Hendry is probably not going to get Tejada if he is just going to give away Patterson or Walker. I see one of those guys getting traded for some "Projectable toolsy" player to fill in at Iowa.
  3. That's where a more productive farm system would help. We shouldn't have to go dumpster diving for the likes of Marquis Grissom. It worked when the Cubs picked up Perez and Enrique Wilson! I'm curious if Grissom is being used to be a teacher for Pie. Hmmm...Pie as a protege. I wonder if Pie would be considered a meal?
  4. Let's see: Walker for Wells, Adams and Hill and Patterson for Manny. :D
  5. I always wondered about Cruz and his work habits. We we're privy to that information but something just didn't add up IMO. I see Rusch as having a good year, for him. 13-9 3.80 ERA kind of year. I like the OF's that the Cubs have ability wise to catch fly balls and that is what Rusch gives up quite a bit. I'll take that kind of year in a heartbeat from Rusch. I doubt we'll get it, but I'd be thrilled if it happened. i don't think there's really any chance of that happening. just put hill out there and use rusch in spot and long situations. that's really the only way of using him effectively. he's a bad option for the rotation and a bad option for regular bullpen duty. the only thing he's useful doing is absorbing innings-either in mop up duty or flipping a coin if another starter is unable to go. I don't think Rusch is an effective swing type pitcher. I rather see him get a shot because you know Baker is going to anyway and maybe this type of confidence in him will turn him into a pretty good pitcher. I truely think if he is handed the ball every 5th day he will have a pretty decent year like I said. If he is a swing guy I see an ERA around 5. I also think that Williams is going to struggle big time in the beginning. Does anyone know about his April/May splits?

I like the OF's that the Cubs have ability wise to catch fly balls and that is what Rusch gives up quite a bit. actually, rusch's career G/F ratio is a decent 1.19. I thought I read before he was a flyball pitcher but you're right that is pretty close.
  7. Does the term sophomore mean the same thing at Ohio State as it does in an actual unpaid college football player? :D
  8. Oh I think Grissom would clearly get the job, although Neifi would get a look as well. Hairston would have an outside shot if he gets into Dusty's good graces. I agree. I hope this signing doesn't devalue Patterson even more than last years preformance in the trade market. It certainly would be nice if the Cubs had a guy on the bench that could hit an HR when he pinch hits.
  9. I'd like some insurance too but we are in HUGE trouble if Grissom becomes an everyday player for any length of time. As injury insurance Grissom is useless, I'd rather use Corey for that. He at least has a chance of returning to being a decent everyday guy. Frost...tell that to the GM of the Cubs. I don't they would ever use Patterson in the leadoff spot again, that is even if he is a Cubs on opening day. Pray that Pierre's body doesn't meet the bricks.
  10. Hunter Cantwell did a great job for Louisville...he's about as tough as they come. What a way to step up in a pressure situation. And Marcus Vick is a punk with absolutely no class. How can everyone in the world see him stomp his cleat into Dumervil's calf but none of the officials did? What a loser...... He just got out of prison so maybe he thought Dumervil was going to take his smokes? I can't believe Syracuse knocked your QB out for the year. :x Just got out of prison...? News to me. Next years premature top 5, on ESPN OSU Texas ND USC Florida Vick got kicked off the team before for braking the law. VTech allows up to 3 arrests before your kicked off the team for good. 5 if you're a starter. Next year is going to be very competitive for the Championship game. WV isn't losing anyone and I think they and LSU should be in the mix too. I think it might depend on who has the weakest schedule. What year is Leak? I think that might be a weak spot for Florida next year if he leaves. Yeah, that system wasn't really great for him but he was a pretty good QB.
  11. If he thinks Grissom could lead off and not be a disaster he's mistaken. Grissom was as bad as Corey last year. At 39 I don't see a big bounce back year. He'll probably be worse than Corey this year, and Corey isn't even the best backup plan for leadoff. It's not what I would do but given the mindset of this orginization it seems logical. Who do you think they would lead off in case Pierre got hurt? Hello 2005. :pukel:

  13. So maybe that dartboard thing isn't the way to run a team? Maybe those lottery ping pong balls might work better.

  15. If Notre Dame was in this game it would have been the game of the ages and the first thing they would show on all the networks was that play. Since it's just WV vs Georgia, it's just another game.
  16. Stepping back and looking at this I thought of something that may have been in Hendrys mind when he signed Grissom. What happens if Pierre gets hurt? Who leads off and Hendry probably doesn't want last years debacle and Grisson may be insurance for that. Yeah, Walker or Hairston could lead off but we're talking Hendry/Baker so I don't see that happening.
  17. I'm curious on Bakers mindset and if he is going to be in a "Win at all costs" mode this season. This would worry me since in Bakers mind young players would even be worse off than before...if that's possible. If this is the case Hill would have to be lights out right from the start or risk being sent to the pen and wasted until Hendry sends him back to Iowa.
  18. I'm pretty proud of the way the Big East played in the bowls. 1-3 but every game was close and I think Louisville would have won if they had their starting QB in there. Not bad for the first year and it's only going to get better.
  19. Rodriguez is a West Virginia Grad so I doubt he will leave but a team like Michigan could throw him a ton of cash to go there and I'm sure it would be tempting. I do not see him ever leaving for any second tier team in any conference.
  20. Whites a son of a gun to try to tackle...the guys fast as heck. TD WV!!!! 14-0!
  21. Pitching and hitting, right? :D
  22. The problem is the Cubs don't have anybody more promising than Kelton ready to take 460 ABs in a corner OF spot in Iowa. Who do they have slated for the OF? Greenberg, Sing, Bacon, Creighton, Pie & Montanez ended last year at AA. So probably some mix of them, though not sure if Montanez will be in AAA. Thanks Brian. I added Pie. :D
  23. We have enough of those types; I am glad JH is trying to build some position-player depth. The Cubs do seem to have a lot of guys like that but I wanted someone that wouldn't give up a bunch of runs. Hendry doesn't have to put this guy on the 40 man does he?
  24. I'm glad he didn't. Nothing like shutting the door when other options (ones that don't include Mark Prior, mind you) may be available. Like Mora. I wonder what he would cost trade wise?
  25. I don't know but I just have a funny feeling about Zito, and not a good one. I'm curious, how would he do in the open market (Free agent money wise) compared to Prior and Z.
