  1. I have a cordless irony and sometimes it doesn't always work.
  2. Lots of people, particularly in the media, seem to be missing this fact. Baltimore does not have to trade Tejada. There's no reason to act with urgency. The O's shouldn't move Tejada unless they're completely overwhelmed by an offer. I think they've played this pretty well. If I were the O's GM and Boston wanted to deal, I'd tell them that any offer had to include Marte, Lester, a quality shortstop, and very little salary. I wonder if Boston regrets trading Hansley Ramirez before they found out about Tejada.
  3. The Cubs are in good shape right now after signing Jones so Hendry probably doesn't need to make any more major moves. The Sox need all the help they can get after winning that World Series thingy. It just goes to show you: a healthy, deep rotation can give a GM lots of options; a injury-ridden rotation featuring 'Glendon Rusch' types as a #4/#5 starter basically ties a GM's hands. I'm just surprised at Hendry's lack of vision. I would imagine as a coach he would have had that but he seems to be forced into too many bad situations and has to overpay. This is the thing that bothers me the most...among many of late. You know Hoops, I really thought the Cubs would be in the middle of a dynasty at this point but I was wrong about the quality of players they had in the minors and wrong about Hendry being the "Chosen" one.
  4. What gimmick is going to replace the believe braclets? May I suggest blinders and earplugs?
  5. I remember when MacPhail turned down a Patterson for Vlad, Vidro and Wilkerson deal many years ago. It's a good thing other teams overrate Cub prospects too or they wouldn't have Lee or Ramirez. Imagine how bad the Cubs would be if they didn't make those trades? What? There had to be more to that deal from the Cubs side of things, lots more. I just hope that five years from now we are not trying to trade Pie for a minor leaguer when we could get alot from him now... I was just kidding Bergy! I am curious on what MacPhail was offered for Patterson though.

  7. Crap. Why not keep him on the bench, spot him into action once in a while to give Murton a break against some right handers, take a chance that he'll perform well and build his value up ahead of the trade deadline? It would be inhuman to keep Corey as a Cub, he was the "fan's" whipping boy last year. IMO this is one of those cases where you can't look at a player like an asset in a portfolio. That's why I think it's always good to boo and trash a player because it always helps the team and the player.
  8. I agree with you about having a catcher that fills that need. Unfortunately the Cubs need hitting and Barrett helps fill that void. You're right about Molina and defending because he really shut down LaBron in a pickup game over the summer. :D
  9. I wish this would just end already. And I'm sure Tejada would be happy about having to play a new position. If the Phillies get Tejada, maybe we could get them to trade us Rollins. :-k why would we want rollins? You would rather have Perez at short?

  11. So the Phillies would have 2 SS's? I wonder if the Cubs would get involved with the Phillies if the Phils don't move thier SS to the O's. According to the rumor, the Phillies would move Tejada to thirdbase. I wonder why the birds don't ask for Rollins too? Does Tejada actually have good enough stats to project as an impact 3B? I'd give a lot for him as a SS but not as a 3rd baseman.
  12. I remember when Zipdog told me that Texas just signed a kid that he thought was going to be as good as McNabb and it was Vince Young. He called it. I have to wonder how McNabb would have done if he played for a team like Texas. Of course, he wouldn't have had Harrison and Kevin Johnson to throw to but he would have had a wonderful offensive line at Texas which I think was really underrated.
  13. No let's not start that we'll have to learn a new anacronym P.O.G.S= pitchouts guessed right. That would lead to a whole new job in the booth tracking those. Sorry hardcore but I'm all about giving Americans new jobs and anacronyms.
  14. Huh? Frere Jacques, Lucky Pierre, Marquis de Sod, John Mabry, Mike Restovich. And Jerry Hairston plays some OF, too. That's six OF-ers if necessary. Patterson is flotsam. Just reading the list of Cub OF's kinda of makes me sick.
  15. So the Phillies would have 2 SS's? I wonder if the Cubs would get involved with the Phillies if the Phils don't move thier SS to the O's.
  16. When you're rich it's called eccentric.
  17. I think the officials in football call an arbitrary game as it is. IMO they could call a penalty on about every play.
  18. I think Grudz has a quicker release than Walker and possibly could have been in postion to move before Walker did. I think either 2nd baseman is fine and it depends on how the other parts of the team is built before I'd pick one. If I have a lot of good hitters I'd take Grudz but since the Cubs need hitting I'd take Walker at this point.
  19. I'm probably going to get bashed for this. But hear me out. If Prior wants more money then he should show he can stay healthy. I say if the Cubs can get Tejada and Bedard for him then do it. To me he's still in that prospect mode. He hasn't proven that he's durable enough to handle a full season. Yes, his injuries aren't all related to pitching. But he still hasn't proved his worth for an entire season. So ranting was done in the above. :D I agree. I want to see him get 35 starts and not have any problems. He's a good pitcher but if Hendry can make a deal to make the Cubs better while trading Prior I'm all for it. Unfortunately I don't really trust Hendry enough anymore to do so. I hope Hendry surprises me and proves me wrong.
  20. I don't know if the Lawton acquistion proves anything about Hendry's attitudes toward OBP and walks, since it just was an act of desperation forced by Corey's total failure, and there weren't many other options at the time. I would guess if a Randall Simon equivalent(.300 career BA, very few walks) had been available for the OF Hendry would taken him before Lawton. I would also guess if Corey had batted .300 he would have stayed at the top of the order even if he never walked once all year. Neifi batted 2nd, never walked, and Hendry just gave him a big raise. I agree. I think it was more of a trying to get a prototypical leadoff hitter, somebody that's done it before that was available at the time.
  21. You're going hate finding out the hidden perks in Neifi's deal then: "150 or more games 4M raise" "Leads off at least 1 time 2M" "Grounds into 20 or more DP's 1M" "Saves Cubs season...Priceless"
  22. I can't imagine the Texans trading that pick. For one thing, fans would march on Reliant Stadium with torches and pitchforks if they trade it. And second, how would they explain to the players who threw games down the stretch that oops, you lost games on purpose for nothing? Umm...they would be getting a lot more than nothing if they were to trade the first pick. If they don't trade that pick it will haunt them for many years down the road. Oh, and I highly doubt they threw any games. I've never really been that impressed with Bush. I know I'm in a minority but I don't think he'll be that much of an impact player as many believe. I was impressed with some of Leinart's throws but his scrambling ability leaves much to be desired for. He better get on a team with a decent or better offensive line IMO.
  23. Congrats shnsajaxx and to Zip Dog wherever you are! Coach Robinson was pretty torn on who he wanted to win this game. He decided to pick Texas because he knew the kids. Ironically, both Carroll and Brown called him. I still think the undefeated Penn State was the best team in 69 though. Franco Harris and Lydell Mitchell...that team was loaded.
  24. Maybe that's why he has (or needs) to have enough talent to win by 50 each game. I'm curious on how he would do if he had to do a lot of in game strategy.
