Sorry, I had to post this

Ohio State linebacker A.J. Hawk, center Nick Mangold and another roommate lost $3,000 in cash and other items worth thousands of dollars when their campus-area house was burglarized last month.

Police say they have no suspects in the theft, which included two laptop computers, DVDs worth $1,400, video games worth $750 and a $500 watch

I will refrain from making comment$.

I'm all for making fun of O$U, but I think any college student and roomate's laptops plus their DVD collection would run at least $1400, and a PS2($200) + 11 games at $50 each = $750.

However, a $500 watch plus 3 grand in cash?

I agree. My video games, DVDs, and computer stuff would be worth at least that. But like you said 3k? Maybe it was loan disbursement day? Can athletes on scholarship even get loans from the gov't?

Just more agreement, $3000 in cash is insane for 3 college students to have. Even the watch could be justified as a family present or something like that, but that much cash lying around?

That's ridiculous. 1400 dollars of DVDs? How does any college STUDENT have that much money, let alone a football player that doesn't have time to get a fulltime job in the summers?

Keep in mind it's 3 roommates' collection.

I too say everything adds up outside of the cash.

Fact: ND was ahead of Oregon last week.

Fact: ND is behind Oregon this week.

Fact: Neither ND or Oregon played last week.

Welcome to PSU 1994. Penn St. defeats Indiana, but the 3rd stringers give up a few scores late, and Nebraska leap frogs them in the polls. PSU never had a chance, stuck withe Rose Bowl and Oregon while Nebraska ot #3 (Miami?) instead.

Thus the BCS was born

Gary Barnett gone?

Apparently he doesn't think so

Citing a source close to contract talks between Barnett and the school, the Denver Post reported on Wednesday that Barnett will not be retained as head coach.

The newspaper reported that there is no timetable for an announcement, but athletic director Mike Bohn was expected to talk to Barnett soon.

However, Barnett told ESPN.com's Pat Forde: "No one has said a word to me. I have not heard from one person that that is going to happen. ... Nobody has presented anything to me. I am continuing as if I'm the head coach at Colorado

Young, Bush, and Leinart only three invited to Heisman presentation!

Makes sense since they are really the only three in the race, but I always thought they invited five people to the presentation, and getting invited was quite an honor.

That has to be frustrating for Brady Quinn, who IMO earned a trip to New York. His stats were much better than Leinart's (300 some more yards, 5 more TDs) with no Reggie Bush in his backfield.

That's really surprising. I seem to remember some real non-factors getting invited in years past.

That really sucks for Quinn and whomever the 5th guy would have been (Robinson, Vick, Olson, whomever). At least let them have that free trip to New York and get some press.

It should have been Olson. Just because the rest of the UCLA team took two giant craps in two of their games and almost did it again a couple of more times shouldn't have diminished the fact that Olson had three freaking interceptions against 31 freaking TDs!!!! That's just ridiculous.

And yet he's not even on ESPN's Heisman Watch page.

Olson definitely took a giant crap in the USC game. For the most part, he and Marcedes were the only ones who showed up at Tucson.

I thought he deserved the 5th spot, but of course, I'm a bit biased.

And the 'Cats just landed two much desired linebackers in the past couple of days. First Nate Williams from Pittsburgh and now Duke de-commit Quentin Davie. Like last year, December is turning into quite the month for Northwestern in terms of recruiting. Even though we were good last year, this season and the press the team has gotten is starting to have a major impact in landing prospects.

Still bitter about Iowa being selected ahead of ND for the BCS in 2002? :P

Banks was hardly a non-factor that season. He had everything a Heisman candidate needs to win in that 2002 season. He was second in the voting (albeit a large margin behind Palmer) ahead of Larry Johnson, Willis McGahee, and Ken Dorsey, so the voters certainly didn't think of him as a non-factor.

First, he had the numbers. He led the nation in passing efficiency and accounted for 31 total TDs (26 passing, 5 rushing). He might not have had as many passing yards as the winner that season did (Palmer), but statistically, he had a terrific year.

Second, he had the hardware. He was the Offensive Player of the Year in the Big Ten. He was named the Big Ten Player of the Year by the Chicago Tribune. He won the Davey O'Brien award for being the nation's top QB. He was also named the 1st Team All-American QB by three national publications, and a finalist for the Walter Camp award.

Third, he had team success. He led an Iowa team that was unranked in the pre-season to an 11-1 regular season record that included four victories over eventual bowl teams, handing top-ten Michigan the worst home loss in the history of their program. Iowa finished the season 11-2 and ranked 8th in the nation in both polls.

Lastly he had "those" moments. He engineered three impressive comeback victories - on the road against the Ben Roethlisburger-led Miami (OH) Redhawks, wiping out a huge 4th quarter deficit in Happy Valley against Penn State, and at home against Purdue where he connected on pass plays of 95 and 7 yards in the closing minute of the game to win.

He might not have had professional success, but that season was a terrific collegiate season, and he was deserving of being a Heisman finalist. He most certainly was NOT a "non-factor."

You may resume your arguments over Notre Dame's worthiness now. :)

No hard feelings, Trip J. I actually really liked Banks that year, I was just taking a dig at his NFL career, or lack thereof.

Hopefully, this gives Quinn extra motivation to prove he belonged in NYC against the Buckeyes, not that he needed any more.

Nah, no worries. I always feel compelled to defend anyone from that 2002 team because it was the one that really resurrected the Iowa program. Plus, my cube is surrounded by Cyclones who like to take potshots at that team since they handed us our only regular-season loss and probably kept us from getting a national title shot of our own.

When I was looking up the stats for that season, what really struck me is how similar Quinn's numbers this season were to Palmer's in '02. Similar completion percentage, similar TD passes and TD/INT ratios, similar Y/ATT. The only real difference is that Quinn passed for about 300 fewer yards than did Palmer. Very interesting. Those were the kind of numbers I was hoping for from Drew Tate this season.

Did anyone watch the ESPN awards tonight? I missed them but heard on a ND board that Paterno said to Herbstreit "It's nice to be interviewed by an Ohio State guy that can speak English" Wondered if anyone else saw that.

Also a few OSU jokes. I hope that no one gets offended by them.

A guy in a bar leans over to the guy next to him and asks, “Wanna hear a OSU joke?” The guy next to him replies, “Well, before you tell that joke, you should know something. I’m 6’ tall, 200 lbs., and I’m a osu graduate. The guy sitting next to me is 6’2”, weighs 225, and he’s a osu graduate. The fella next to him is 6’5” tall, weighs 250, and he’s a osu graduate. Now, you still wanna tell that joke?

The first guy replies: “Naw, not if I’m gonna have to explain it three times.”

Members of the OSU football team were placed in a remedial English class. “Because we are all new on campus we are going to start with the basics,” the professor explained. “Does anyone know what comes after a sentence?” All of the players raised their hands. “The appeal!” they all shouted with pride.

Coach Tressel was recently offered the head coaching job of the Detroit Lions, he turned it down because he said he can't work with a salary cap

Also NDistops got a question for ya:

I read this

While Mustain’s desire to look around may have some thinking he is considering Tennessee, Texas and others, there appears to be only one school the Razorbacks must beat to win him back. It’s a big name, though. Mustain enjoyed his visit to Notre Dame in the summer and the school always has been in the back of his mind. The Irish secured commitments from two top quarterbacks early in the recruiting process but dropped one because of lack of character. So, Notre Dame is after a second signal caller and has targeted Mustain.

I didn't hear about them dropping Jones or Frazer. You know anything about this?

Posted

Adam, I heard nothing about dropping a QB. The South Bend Tribune reported two more commitments for ND today, and on their list of Irish recruits, both of the QBs were still on there.

I just hope that if they dropped one, it was Frazer, because Jones looks like a big-time playmaker.

I am seriously annoyed that Mike Hass from Oregon State (never heard the name in my life) beat Samardzija for the Biletnikoff Award. Hass had SIX touchdowns, Jeff has FIFTEEN. Also, Jeff played on a BCS bowl team while Hass played on a 5-6 team. In my eyes, that's well more than enough to make up for a 300 yard differential that's more due to the late-season emergence of Maurice Stovall than anything else. Jeff made a bunch of highlight-reel catches and I never saw Hass on any highlight show. I can't understand this at all.

I didn't know Hass won. That is weird. I saw JoePa got coach of the year. I think he deserved it.

I also read on a different board that Jones may be hurt (rotator cuff) and they may be looking to move him to WR, which now makes Mustain a lot more appealing to the Irish. From everything I read, the kid is unbelievable. If he leaves Arkansas and comes to SB, that would be great.

Posted
I'll take Mustain if he's that good...but let's not forget about a kid named Jimmy Clausen that still has another year of HS to go that's supposed to be about the greatest QB ever (and is supposedly leaning toward ND, although his parents have tried as hard as they can to keep anyone from knowing what he is thinking). Of course, we got another guy like that and it didn't work out so well...
