Ok Im surprised nobody else has brought this up so I will. Does anybody know what kind of a relationship Coletti and Baker had while they were in SF? Is there any way that Coletti might want Baker to come take the LA managers job? Since they have ties together I thought I would thow it out there.

Please, oh please be yes.

Baker for Joel Guzman. Two problems solved.

That's nice to see, obviously we've all thought of it, but nice to see some actual rumor about Epstein being interested here.

I'm not even that huge of an Epstein fan, but right now I'm so down on Hendry, I'd welcome Theo.

It really is imperative that MacPhail doesn't give those extensions to Hendry/Baker now. If Hendry finishes off the offsesason the way I hope, then this won't be a problem, but it's nice to know that a decent GM is interested should Hendry flop, like I'm afraid he will.

A very very quick Google search throws up this...

Nevertheless, Moorad [Dusty's agent] said Tuesday evening that while Baker plans to entertain offers from other clubs, he will give the Giants serious consideration.

"Dusty feels strongly about an organization that has had a place for him the last 10 years and wants to hear them out," Moorad said.

In a brief interview Tuesday night, Sabean [Giants GM] said he was having trouble reaching Moorad, a frustration that assistant general manager Ned Colletti also expressed on KNBR (680 AM) Tuesday night.

"(Dusty has) certainly been more glib about moving on to greener pastures than staying here," Colletti said. "But it's tough to get in the middle of it and figure it out because the lines of communication have been one way."

That's from after 2002.

Probably meaningless, but not particularly encouraging.

Baker personally received his NL Championship ring for 2002 from Sabean and Colletti along with Tom Goodwin and Ramon Martinez went the Cubs were playing in SF the next year.

BP Q&A with Colletti from Sept 2003

Another probably trivial piece of info - Colletti and Greg Maddux are very good friends.

Speculation out of LA seems to be pointing at Orel Hershiser as the next LA manager. Orel is who McCourt and Lasorda have wanted all along and was part of the reason Depodesta was fired because he didnt want Hershiser apparently. So there goes my dreaming Baker and Colleti would like to work again.

The coolest thing about this is a former co-worker of mine is a friend of Colletti's from back in the days Ned was working for the Cubs and he was working for the Tribune in their data processing department. Back then, Dan (my former co-worker) was helping Colletti gather data on players and putting that data in to computers. Dan says Ned is one of the brightest men he has ever met. Even though they last talked last SPring Training, they were supposed to get together this summer, but something came up at the last minute and Colletti couldn't make it. Congrats to Ned Colletti...and Dan...remember me when I need Cubs Dodger tickets.

Ned's 23 year old son is quite smart also and a baseball fanatic. He just graduated college and is looking to join the front office of a team. I'm thinking Ned could give him some valuable experience.
