  1. Protecting your boy Aramis. Dusty and Brenly call him out for not hustling in a matter of a few weeks, but you can count on the Sheep to look the other way and ba-a-a excuses. Never mind that this is his 2nd straight team to have the same objections to his play. But as long as he hits meaningless HR when the club is 20 games under .500-WHEA!!! Where was he in April? In May? ARam is the second highest paid everyday player on the team and as such, should set an example. He's only the 6th or 7th best 3rd basemen in the NL anyway.
  2. ARam 'spectating' again on the bases. Jones double down the leftfield line, ARam dogs it to third. Too busy looking at the ball and not picking up Quade at third base and hustling. Brenly says "most Cubs would have scored easily". But Bob, some Cub fans think it's OK to dog it. After all, we can't ask them to do too much. Yeah, right.
  3. When was that productivity exactly? Was that when the club needed him to step up and be a leader, when DLee was out. This guy has a history of not caring, making bad decisions and not hustling. Just like Kerry Wood, I expect the highest paid players on the team to do produce and be a leader. Not too much to ask.
  4. Yes, it does improve a team that hovers at the 25 games under .500 mark. Hendry must rebuild the team on pitching and defense. Izturis is 6 years younger than your Neifi and was an All-Star SS. You then move Ronnie Cedeno to 2nd. EPatt doesn't appear ready. Josh Fields hustles, which ARam does not. When this club needed ARam to step up and earn his money, he showed he is weak stock. Trade now while the value is high. Fields is stuck in the minors because of Joe Crede and the talk was the White Sox may want him to learn the OF. Sweeney is a corner OF that is a year away. The Sox have played him in CF but he is a corner guy. Hendry will have at least $25 million+ to spend over the winter. I hope it's a big bat and at least a #2-3 pitcher.
  5. on the South Side. The White Sox are having trouble with Brian Anderson in CF-fielding and hitting. They are also having problems at the bottom and the top of their lineup. They also need a righthanded middle reliever. Pierre and one of(Novoa or Wuertz) for Josh Fields(3rd). If they want Bobby Howry instead, I want Ryan Sweeney(cf) too. Then trade ARAM and Maddux to the Dodgers(Izturis) and OF or Padres for OF prospects.
  6. Santo was a very good 3rd baseman but not even close to Eddie Matthews of the Braves. Matthews wasn't included in the Braves Top 5, the team pushing Chipper Jones. Among the players not included that were favorites: Richie Allen, Gil Hodges, Denny McClain, Bob Allison and Andre Dawson. I see that Big Yak wasn't selected either by the Cards. They let him be the donkey.
  7. You remembered incorrectly. He was killed in the backseat of an automobile in Gary from a shotgun blast. I was challenged to produce one player who gave back contract money due to poor performance, irregardless of the reason for his poor performance.
  8. It's pretty easy to understand. Rehab starts in the minors take away starts from the young pitching. Here's what this guy did when we needed him most down the stretch. 2004 Aug. 27th vs. Houston LOSS Sept. 10th vs Florida LOSS Sept.16th vs. CIN WIN Sept. 26th vs NYM LOSS Oct. 1st vs ATL LOSS
  9. I don't imply intentions, just presenting the facts. He was a vastly overpaid and under productive thrower. Those brief moments when he was on his game, he was very good. But those moments were few and far between. On too many big games for the Cubs he did not perform. When the Cubs gave him the chance to win one game in 2003 to be in the World Series-he spit the bit. When they needed him to stop the slide in September of 2004-he was nowhere to be found. With big money contracts comes big responsibility. You can't be the highest paid pitcher on the Cubs and then only have a career high of a mere 14 games. He refused to change his mechanics to avoid some of these re-occuring injuries, even though many former pitchers said he needed to do so. He thought having 80 pitches in 4 innings was just fine. But he had to do it his own way and that's fine. He got his wish. Many successful pitchers have been hurt in the past, realize they needed to change their delivery and then went on to long, productive careers There's plenty of blame to go around. But Wood must bear the majority of it. Too many times on the DL, too many missed games and too many dashed hopes for Cubs fans. I want this team to win as bad as all of us do. But Wood has shown he can't be counted on. His escapades have cost this team millions, taken starts away from young pitchers, worn out the middle relievers and driven everyone nuts. It's time to cut him lose.
  10. Vance, your education is not yet complete. Today's lesson-Lyman Bostock. Bostock was an OF with the California Angels in the 1970's. He signed a long term contract. Bostock's 1978 season started off a disaster, with him batting only .150 for the month of April. Bostock went to Angels' owner Gene Autry and attempted to give back his April salary, saying he hadn't earned it. Autry refused, so Bostock announced he would be donating his April salary to charity. Thousands of requests came in for the money, and Bostock went through each of them, trying to determine who needed it the most. Tsk..tsk.
  11. Bilk- 1. To defraud, cheat, or swindle 2. To thwart or frustrate 3. To elude $32.5 million for 12 wins in 3 years. Let me know when he wants to give any of the cash back for doing nothing. I don't care how many job sites you pmed me, your posts are moronic. I wish I could ignore posters, because I can't read anymore crap out of CubbieRich's keyboard. Always good to hear from you, Badger. I hope the new job and the new digs in The Cities are GREAT! Say 'Hello' to Don and Amelia on 'CCO for me. While the truth about truth about Wood is hard for many to swallow, it's right there for you. He's finished...with his bloated $12 million for the year. Having him wear the Cubs uniform in the dugout any more is sending the wrong message to the real players who may have a career left. Send him on his way and worry about the players you have.
  12. Bilk- 1. To defraud, cheat, or swindle 2. To thwart or frustrate 3. To elude $32.5 million for 12 wins in 3 years. Let me know when he wants to give any of the cash back for doing nothing.
  13. Is that crap necesssary? What would you call people who think Wood should stay with the Cubs in any capacity? Isn't bilking this franchise out of millions over his career enough for anyone. I think so. Let him go away. And I better not see him dressed in a uniform in the dugout anytime this year. He is not a member of this team.
  14. Listen to the sheep: Wood is a starter. Wood is a closer. Wood is a reliever. This just in: Wood is none of the above.
  15. The Kerry Wood 5 minute era is done with the Cubs. I wonder where the WHIP excuse crew is? We still have to pay the bum $3 million to leave next year. But Hendry now has $9 million in his pocket for next year. Add Maddux's salary and we're talking quite a FA war chest.
  16. You're going on the assumption that the Cubs can properly develop young, unproven talent and actually allow them time to develop properly. Also, how are we magically going to get Josh Fields? The White Sox needs are righthanded middle relievers and another bat in the OF. We have at least 2 of each for them to choose from.
  17. On the Cubs it is..but not on the other teams. Even Dusty knows better.
  18. It's no worse a strawman that "playing the game the right way", or having "heart". Yeah, those are pretty empty catch phrases, but it still doesn't discount being able to be frustrated with a player who has shown he can be an all star playing this bad for this long, clearly dogging it multiple times on the field, and nothing seems to change. He is the 2nd highest paid everyday player on this terrible team. He should lead by example. He should produce when DLee goes down. He should hustle all the time. He should care. He doesn't. He is being richly rewarded for being less than average. This Cubs group refuses to sit his butt on the bench for less play. Here Aramis, have a cookie(have two because Kerry can't lift his arm) and just do what you've been doing.
  19. Why actually watch a game when it just confuses people. He was too busy calling John Paxson to complain about the trades of 'no heart-no hustle' Eddy Curry and Tyson Chandler. Last night he was crunching numbers about Kerry Wood's WHIP 7 years ago. The chant remains the same.
  20. Maybe you should listen better. The proposed trade with the Dodgers was for more than Izturis. It was for their best young pitcher and best young OF. The Dodgers are one of few clubs to have the $$$ to assume ARam's contract. The trade also included Maddux and Williamson. I would make that deal right now, providing we get Josh Fields from the White Sox to play 3rd.
  21. I need only go to last night's game with the Brewers to show how Lazy heis. Look at what Paul Sullivan of the TRIB wrote: Kool-aid drinkers can't find stats for 'playing the game right' or 'giving it your all'. Better just to look at numbers and close your eyes to the rest. One wonders how they are evaluated on their jobs. No doubt expect a cookie for just showing up.
  22. Sean Marshall is already at the highest innings pitched of his career-mid 80's. Hate to see this guy go 150-160 innings and blow his arm out. Maybe if they use Marmol, Guzman and Rich Hill more in the 2nd half, Marshall would be moved to long relief?
  23. How can you knock a guys throwing error when he's committed a total of 4 errors all year? The argument about attempting to go to 3rd is reasonable, but it should also quiet the argument that he's lazy. He's Lazy!!! He's lazy at the plate. He's lazy running. He's lazy in the field. Plus, he just doesn't get it. He has very little baseball sense. No wonder when he lost that pop fly in the sun that was to his side and it hit him in the head-he didn't rub it. There was nothing there that could be hurt. His stupid baserunning last night was typical on not knowing what to do. I'm sure those that wallow in their 'stats du jour' will look at his fielding numbers or other such meaningless huey and try to tell us different. But those who have actually watched him play, know he is average-on his best days. And this guy is being paid $11 million? No thank you. Trade him to the Dodgers-get some prospects. Then acquire Josh Fields from the White Sox who already has better numbers and isn't LAZY!!
  24. This is Un-Freakin' Believable. The Cubs are now holding paid clinics for business people on game days. The coaches hit grounders, pitch to these bums and hit flyballs. This often prevents the Cubs from doing extra workouts at Wrigley, because there is no time. Yesterday was a prime example. Because these business people were on the field, prior to the gates opening, only the Brewers could work out. The Cubs had BP and that was it. This franchise continues to put $$$ ahead of winning. Nice going, Hendry.
