  1. Heard the Reds announcer on The Score on Saturday and here's what he said. He said that Dunn is available but it would take a HR hitter back in return. New Reds owner says $$$$ is there to add someone in July if the Reds are still close. Marty said that the left side of the Reds infield is terrible defensively. He predicted they would move Encarcion to first, move Lopez to 3rd next year. Dunn will always be a poor OF. He said Freel can't play everyday because he'll break down. Here's how I will solve their problem. Dunn for ARam, Murton and Jerome Williams. Williamson and Novoa to WhiteSox for Josh Fields(3rd).
  2. Is there a clause in the basic agreement that a player in a multi-year deal cannot be traded in the first year? This came up in reference to possibly trading Eyre, Neifi, etc.. By the way, Dempster has a no-trade clause.
  3. If he had to answer questions every time there was speculation about this or that, he'd never have time to play ball. Should he have to poke his head out of the woodwork when every random website mentions his name? Your vendetta is tired. He's on the DL. He has the time. MSNBC is a national media outlet. Please refrain from the personal attacks.
  4. Anyone see the Mighty Poolie these days? He was in the dugout every game during the homestand. he is not traveling with the team during the roadtrip because the team told him not to on Wed. (he is injured) but I am sure people will spin that as well... Sounds like he has sometime during the day it seems to face the media and address this issue. He can't think with all that is going on, this will simply blowover and go away. Many media people would love to clear all of this up. What's a couple hours gonna hurt? I would hate to think that the Mighty Poolie could be playing a 'little dodgeball' here. HE has come out and said he was innocent in the past couple weeks and you created a thread calling him a coward. His name is not rumored to be in this affidavit. His trainers name is the rumor and the trainer has denied it...the rest is just 7 degrees of conection speculation... Poolie and his HGH connection even made MSNBC last night. You may believe that at some point he won't have to raise his hand and swear to tell "the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth" somewhere. I think he knows that's a real possibility. The Feds don't give up so easily. Just like his buddy Big Yak, if there wasn't something there on substance abuse, he would be out there talking to the press and trying to salvage his name. Where is he then?
  5. Badger may be on 'suicide watch' already. Hang in there, buddy.

  7. Why would a St. Louis Cardinal player not want to face the media, let alone a government committee and be asked about their possible usage of an illegal substance? Mark McGwire March 17, 2005: Anyone see the Mighty Poolie these days?
  8. If he were a Cub, would you feel the same? You betcha. Sammy was taking something and everyone knew it-especially MacPhail, Hendry and Dusty. Dobn't forget Bud Selig and Donald Fehr To clean this up, you start at the top and work your way down. Nailing Grimsley scares no one. Linking that to Bonds, Pujols, Giambi, Soas etc..scares everyone. I noticed that the Cards fans are understandably silent. Just the prospect of anyone asking Poolie about HG frightens them. Small town hack Bernie M. will never ask him. Where's he gonna work next? East Moline?
  9. Mighty Poolie--There seems to be some question about your physical development. Even though the Cardinals newspaper has put it's head in the sand and won't even mention your name this morning. Please put an end to this madness. Take the WADA-approved HGH test(and to Cards apologists-there is a reliable HGH test) in Downers Grove. It's a little pricey but not to worry-I will pay for it. Not surprised third-rate St. Louis lackey Bernie M. of the PD hasn't offered the same. Poolie--You have time on your hands now because of your injury. By the way, how'd did Larussa know you'd be out for a month without an MRI test to actually see what was wrong with you? That Tony is a special guy when it comes to things legal and medical. I know you won't make yourself available to the media during these trying times. Someone, not from St. Louis, may ask a question you won't like. So Poolie, come take the test. Don't hide behind your religion, your kids, your wife, your manager or anyone else. Be the Mighty Poolie and be a man. Imagine what a thrill it will be for Cards fans to have you come out of the clinic and then point to the sky-because you're clean. I'll even buy you a beer at Uncle Bub's Bar-B-Q when you're done. Let me know when you think that will happen.
  10. Is the mighty Pujols really involved in this? Grimsley says that a former employee of the KC Royals and personal fitness trainer referred him to a source for amphetamines. Grimsley says that this personal trainer provided him with “amphetamines, anabolic steroids and human growth hormone.” The trainer's name was Chris Mihlfeld, a Kansas City-based 'strength and conditioning guru.' Mihlfeld was employed bythe Royals as Strength And Conditioning Coordinator. Mihlfeld has been Albert Pujols’ personal trainer in Kansas City before Pujols was drafted by the Cardinals.
  11. Picking a 17 year old for what he will mature into 10 years later is tough. The NBA draft is rigged from the aspect of picking positions. They do it in some backroom and then have an accounting firm say it was on the up and up. I don't buy it. They got burned during the Patrick Ewing draft class by allegedly putting the Knicks card in a freezer before the draft. When Stern reached in the bowl, he avoided the colder card until the end. However a number of fans saw the precipitation on the inside of the bowl and asked some pretty pointed questions. Since then it's behind closed doors.
  12. How do you figure? Where did you read anything that indicated that? Grimsley named names that he knew did HGH from association. The government was the one that tracked this shipment to his house. I'm not sure where you come up with your conclusion. I figure from the story on BP. It was my understanding that the tests were conducted in such a way that no connection was made between a specific player and his particular test. I hope this clears it up.
  13. The players were told that their identities for the 2003 tests were protected by a random numbering system. Looks like MLB lied and linked the test to the specific player. If I'm Bud, I'd be booking my flights and rooms to Washington. Since this happened in Arizona, guess who will be calling for hearings.
  14. A guy from Baseball Prospectus was on with Kaplan. The gist was that Samardzija had discussions with other teams about drafting him in earlier rounds. He said he wanted to sign with the Cubs and if another team drafted him, he would ask for alot more money. My questions are: If he is so good, why didn't some other team call his bluff? And the same story about taking him in the 5th round was in one of the Chicago papers on Tuesday morning-prior to the draft. How did they know all about it? As to picking Colvin, BP says the Cubs went to a few players and basically said 'We know that you're not a #13 pick and not worth major bucks. We'll take you if promise not to ask for too much.' Why not select a better player at #13, if you have the money and can afford to sign both? It was agreed, if the Bears or Bulls did something like this..they would be roasted here.
  15. The Indians did a study a few years ago that teams with one player who makes 17-18% of their payroll had never won the World Series. I know that ARod is often criticized as not having won it all, but he is a special player. Be fun to see what a DLee-ARod-CLee lineup could do. Funny how teams have changed in the last 10 years or so, putting their top power guy #3 in the lineup rather than 4th.
  16. St. Louis has always been an intensively racially divided city. The city has shrunk to almost 1/3 of what it was 40 years ago. Olive Street has divided the black area(north) from the white area(south). This has led to development only in the white area. The mass exodus of whites to the suburbs has compounded the problem even more so. Unlike Chicago, there are no grocery stores, service stations or amenities for people to enjoy downtown. Sadly the area around Busch Stadium is not very safe at night and certainly offer only a handful of restaurants, etc.. that would make people want to stay in the area after the game. The St. Louis Hawks moved to Atlanta in the 1960's due to the lack of support for a changing predominately black NBA team. If this weren't so, why is St. Louis NEVER mentioned for an NBA team. Black baseball players and football players in St. Louis have noted that they have trouble being accepted in the community. Ozzie Smith and Marshall Faulk are exceptions. But Ron Gant, Brian Jordan, Willie McGee, Vince Coleman, Ernie McMillan, etc... all couldn't wait to leave there. Racism exists in almost everything, but the St. Louis area is notorious for it-Black Jack, VP Fair and Ball and Pruitt Igoe are infamous.
  17. It's not as blatantly racist as St. Louis. It's a good river town and there are plenty of things to do..many in Kentucky. You can certainly find good barbecue and bars that can wet your whistle. Is Burbank's still in biz? Rocket-I used to go to Chester's Roadhouse between Dayton and Cincy. Is it still there? Friends used to work at Rike's Dept. Store and spent a few $$$ at King Cole. Dayton has some large companies there.
  18. This team isn’t going anywhere. Hendry has the chance to unload some veterans and money to teams that will still be in the race by July 31st. My plan would be to get the best prospects we can and I think we could do that. I would sweeten any deal with young pitching, if that is the hangup. The only established power hitter I want is Adam Dunn. • ARam to the Reds for Adam Dunn (or) • ARam and Todd Walker to the Indians for Brandon Webb(3rd) and Brad Snyder(OF) • Kerry Wood and Matt Murton to the D’Backs for Stephen Drew(SS), Carlos Quentin(OF) and Carlos Gonzalez(OF). • Juan Pierre, Roberto Novoa and Will Ohman to the White Sox for Josh Fields(3rd) and Jerry Owen(OF) • Greg Maddux and Rich Hill to the Dodgers for Scott Elbert(P) and Russ Martin©. • Neifi Perez to the A’s for anything. That means: 1B-DLee 2nd-Womack/Cedeno/Bynum SS-Cedeno or Stephen Drew 3rd-Josh Fields or Brandon Wood LF-Dunn/Carlos Quentin/Brad Snyder CF-Felix Pie RF-Jones/Pagan/Carlos Gonzalez
  19. Pujols is a prominent member of a Baptist Temple in Kansas City. Pujols likes to tell everyone that he is a devout follower. Pujols likes to tell everyone how much money he gives to his Baptist Temple. Baptists do not condone the use of alcohol. But the new St. Louis eatery has applied for a liquor license. But how can this be? Pujols name is on the front. A liquor license, with a double shot of irony. No news if there will be a 'Juice Bar' too. Thank you, Devout One.
  20. Found that birth certificate yet? I know someone in Dayton who wants to help. He'll have to cut his mullet and puny beard, but he should fit right in. When did Pujols become a U.S. citizen? You wouldn't need a U.S. passport to travel to the DR, if you were a DR citizen. You need to travel a little, my friend. As to your 'Pujols was tested in the WBC for HGH' claim. He was not. Oops..at least you are consistent. And Bernie Miklacz is a good fiction writer and mixes the Cardinal Kool-Aid real good. Now find that birth certificate and also that HGH test that Pujols took. And Jimmy Hoffa would be good too.
  21. Looks like Jerry is gone to Texas. Nevin will play 1st until DLee is back. I have always felt that DLee's rehab may take longer than one more month. Nevin can also play 3rd. But I hate it that we will only have 5 second basemen now. Once you get used to 6..you never go back.
  22. Wow! I'll have to get an atlas for all these Cards fans locations. What power the Cubs fans have over them to come here to talk baseball. Now..onto destroying your points. 1) Pujols' age was in question by a rival KC high school. His HS-Fort Osage-even petitioned to have Pujols eligible for another year. Pujols admits he even lied to get a date with his wife. Many media people have questioned his age and until he produces a 'certified birth certificate'-they will continue to do so. But not to worry, a couple of Cards fans are busy looking for it and have promised to show all of us here. Still waiting. 2) Glad he says he's has been tested 3 times. But then MLB is prohibited from even commenting on any sort of testing schedule. So, that story is coming from who? 3) I hope your 2 years of residency wasn't in anything medical. There are plenty of tests for HGH, but they involve blood testing-not just urine testing. Pujols knows that players can not be tested for HGH under the current contract and substance abuse policy. But if he wants to step up and be a leader-I will pay for his HGH test at a medical clinic in Downers Grove. 4) It's one thing to sell your autograph, it's another to jack up the price for your autograph and hide behind some foundation. There are plenty of players who have done more in the game and don't charge as much. Sandberg, Banks, Williams, Santo come to mind right away.
  23. Leaves us a bit thin in the pitching department, no? Also, which one of Aramis, Cedeno, or Walker would you bench/trade to make room for Rodriguez in the lineup? Counter proposal: Wood + Aramis for Arod + cash. (Mostly to reduce Arod's cost toward the end of his deal.) I'd try Wood + Cedeno + Harvey for Arod + cash, but your deal would be my plan B. Get him healthy and then make a deal. A couple thoughts, I would make deals for only the stud OF and catching prospects only. This ARod trade would be the exception. The Yanks are desperate for younger pitching and depending if Clemens signs with the Red Sox, they would be forced to make a move. Wood, Rameriz, Jones and Rich Hill for ARod and OF/C prospect. Or Wood to D-Backs for 2 of their top OF prospects and Stephen Drew. The Cubs would pick up the majority of Wood's money this year. Stick Drew at SS and move Cedeno to 2nd.
  24. Please explain this. Fred is a nice guy, but would never ask a hard question of anyone. He used to be on the Cubs and Bears beat, but that was years ago. Solid writer but for the past few years he simply was writing 'gladhander' columns' which were filler at best. Of all the sports people at the TRIB to interview you, Fred would be the weakest link. I would prefer a Teddy Greenstein or Barry Rozner toask better questions. Was Bruce Miles even approached for an Andy interview?
  25. MacPhail and Hendry have been hiding for weeks. For Lewis Black fans, they have joined The Dick Cheney Club of 'great white elk sightings'. They won't appear on any talk show that allows the fans access to them. God forbid we might ask a tough question. He chooses to speak to Kaplan and tired old Fred Mitchell, who is just shuffling along. The Score called MacPhail's office on Thursday and were told that he would never come on the air and be questioned. Kaplan is no interviewer. He is just a lapdog for the TRIB/WGN Radio/The Cubs and he knows it. His questions were cupcakes and very soft. No follow-up and no real answers. He and Waddle spent alot of time patting each other on the back about 'how tough Kaplan was with Andy'. It was very frustrating. No questions about how the money is being spent, why were TRIB baseball writers called on the carpet, why this organization has failed to produce everyday players under Andy's regime, at what point does a managerial move have to be made... etc.. I'm sure that many of you would have a ton more questions.
