No team in Division I has seen more minutes played by Freshman and Sophomores than Georgia Tech.

You sure? I figure KU, UNC, and Memphis State give them a run for their $ in that stat.

You're kidding....Memphis St is that young? Wow.

I heard that quoted on a Georgia Tech radio broadcast. 87% pct of Tech's minutes played are by Fr/So. The other 13% are from the backup PG/SG who is a Jr and the backup C who is a Sr.

UNC has gotten a ton of minutes from Noel, Terry, Miller, and Sanders. The young team aspect of UNC has been overplayed because of Hansborough.

*see Wake Forest as well after Chris Paul's departure (2-10 in the ACC with basically everyone returning but Paul)

They are no referred to as "the university of Memphis" as I was told repeatedly on my recent trip there.

Calipari is a very good coach, but I wonder how long before the NCAA looks into things?

You're right...I forgot about that.

Yeah, John seems to get in a little trouble once in awhile. How is the school academically?

When SI did their "academic" college basketball preview a few years back, Memphis's grad rate was a whopping 0 percent, and I'm guessing it hasn't improved.

The college of education is not well rated, but they hired a new dean two years ago and he started cleaning house, which is the reason the positions are open. I am not sure about the rest of the university.

Grad rates posted by the NCAA for athletes is notoriously flawed. Nevertheless, a rate of 0 is pretty bad.

It says a lot about a team's season when they lose by 8 and you're just happy they didn't keep you in suspense about it this time.

(Marquette 80, ND 72, Irish need to win out if they want a shot at the Big East Tourney.)

Stanford beat WSU 39-37 today.

Big day in the Pac-10 tomorrow: Oregon plays at UCLA, then Cal plays at Washington. As of now, UCLA and Cal are tied for first place, Washington is 1 game back (Stanford and Arizona are 1.5 back).

The Pac 10 has higher scores than that in football.

It's senior day at UCLA! The starting lineup:

SR 7-0 Ryan Hollins - Pasadena, CA

SR 7-0 Michael Fey - Olympia, WA

SR 6-6 Cedric Bozeman - Santa Ana, CA

SR 6-2 Janou Rubin - Union City, CA

SO 6-2 Jordan Farmar - Los Angeles (Van Nuys), CA

It's Janou's first career start.

Again, UCLA gets off to a slow start but comes from behind at the half to blow out Oregon, 70-53. UCLA can survive the sluggish starts against the Oregon schools but not against the Bay Area schools next or in the tournament.

Florida's getting a head start by losing to a pretty mediocre Bama team on the road. I'd wager that Florida is the first of their seed to be eliminated.

Doesn't Donovan always do this? Usually it starts with Kentucky beating them. Then snowballs.

Washington defeats Cal in Seattle, 73-62. Cal and Washington are now 1 game back of UCLA for first in the conference with 2 games left.

UCLA goes to Berkeley to play Cal on Thursday; Washington goes to Tempe to play Arizona State.

Is there any doubt that Duke, UConn, Villanova and Memphis are the top 4 seeds so far? Who could possibly jump in there if one were to lose right away in their conference tournament.

Dark Horse: UNC. If they win out (UVA and Duke) and then win the ACC Tourney (including beating Duke again), they'd have to be considered. That said, this scenario is very unlikely to happen.

I still don't think that's enough to get UNC a number 1. I think a team like Texas or even Gonzaga (I hate Gonzaga by the way) would get considered before UNC would.

Or if one of Illinois or Ohio St. won the Big 10 tourney. NC has way too many taems to jump to get a 1 seed. Pitt or Tennesee winning their tourney would likely put them ahead as well.

i still want no part of UNC in the tourney, though.

Eh, other than some teams I think are vastly overrated (Tennesee, FL, Pitt, BC, OK) I'd lump just about every team below Texas down to #25 as about the same.
