Pie has always been young for his league and shown a lot of natural ability at each level. Yea he has his flaws, but if he takes the time to work on them he will be a solid major leaguer. I'm not a part of the group who wants to see him at Wrigley this year, at the beginning, or mid-season. The earliest I want to see him at Wrigley is Spetember, and even then, just to fill a spot on the bench.

If given the full year at AAA, he can take steps to improve his dicispline and base stealing.

Lets give him time. Give him a full year at AAA. You can't doubt his natural ability.

Having said that, I will admit he is overvalued(what top prospect in any organization isnt?) And right now he wouldn't make a bigger impact than Murton and Cedeno did, or what some other guys could this year(Sing,Greenberg). But with the exception of Murton maybe, none of those guys will get much better. Pie will get a lot better still. You can bet on it.

Wondered how the hell a thread went up to 10 pages since this morning. Of course, Adam Dunn.

After last year's excitement over nothing I refuse to ever believe we'll get any of the Reds OFs besides maybe Wily Mo Pena.

Posted
Still don't see the Reds trading Dunn to a divisional foe. Move along guys.

I'll lock the thread then. :D

I think the Cubs would have to be a notch or 2 better offer than the other teams because of that but I wouldn't rule it out.

Oh and some of you won't believe this, but, many of you overvalue Dunn just as much some others overvalue Pie!

Yes I know, shocking. Surely Dunn is the Messiah!

Dunn would improve our lineup a TON. He is a great player. But believe it or not he too has his flaws. I think that as Cubs fans we have lacked OBP so much that we concentrate on it too much. Yes, I realize he brings more than OBP, he is a great power hitter.

I'm all for getting him on board. But lets not just immediately meet their demands of giving up our best prospect.

A guy like Dunn will cost you a "best" prospect. He was a "best" prospect himself when he came up to the major leagues and he hasn't disappointed.

IMO the closest to "perfect" players are:

ARod, M.Cabrara, and Pujols. Great hitters and very good on defense.

The rest have their goods and bads and you determine if that will help your team or not.

No Bonds, huh?

Yeah, you got me there. Even before the drugs....err workout. But i wouldn't consider him that now until he proves he can come back not testing positive opps...I mean from his knee injury.

I've seen Wright play quite often and I want to give him a couple of years before he makes my top 5. I love watching him play and he is going to be a major star no doubt about it but I think Miggy is a better hitter and that sways me a little more than the excellent defense Wright plays. I want Wright to make the basic plays better too and once he does then we'll see.

OK...one more year! I just want to see him do it one more year like Miggy did.

Now if I added sex appeal Wright would be in the top 3 because the NY girls go absolutely nuts for the guy.

Miggy's done it for a bit longer, but you're probably right.

Way back, if any of yoy remember it was mentioned that Hendry was looking at MacDougal from the Royals. I checked out his stats quickly, but nothing really blew me away at first glance. Is he somebody to get excited about. We have to trade for him. Would we be able to consoladte some of our BP arms to save some guys from Rule V?

McDougal is a puzzling target for Hendry, though I think he has been after him for over a year now. McDougal doesn't seem to be any more reliable than gambling on our own in-house youth IMO.

Iirc Cincy really wanted Pie @ the trade deadline. I guess Hendry will feel a lot more comfortable dealing off Pie, if he gets Pierre. Dunn seems to fit the philosophy of Hendry better than Abreu or Giles, as he several years younger.

Pie, Hill & Williams for Dunn may be able to do it. I like Williams, but he's seems to be a #3 pitcher at best.

Where did you hear that Cincy wanted Pie at the deadline?

MacDougal is way better than any of our in-house youth, with the possible exception of Wuertz.

Also, he's closed successfully before and I'm sure they'd like to have another guy in the bullpen with some closing experience.

He'll be cheap in terms of money and will only require a year-by-year commitment for the next three or four years.
