Has any team let more games out of their grasp the last couple of years like Mich St has. They may be the best team in the big ten but just cant seem to get it done in the end. They should have won the 2 games they lost and also let the ND game go to OT after dominating them for 3 quarters. Northwestern has a way of stealing wins so this may be closer than some expected.

If Michigan loses they may be scrambling to be bowl eligible. they would need 2 more wins with games at Northwestern, and home against OSU and Indiana. They might also get it together and win out, its hard to tell with this team.

What team is the most disappointing in the Big Ten Michigan, Iowa or Purdue? At least Michigan has lost close games to good teams that they probably should have won. Of course they probably should havelost to Penn st and Mich St. Purdue and Iowa have just not looked good at times this season.

One last thing for the gamblers, I think I would take Illinois and the points. I think this one is also going to be closer than some expect.

One more last thing How come ND is higher than Mich St in the polls. Mich St beat them head to head(at ND) and they both have 2 loses. Is it over hype by ESPN or do they really think ND is a beater team. I think if they played 11 times Mich St would win 6 of them

Knock off your ND griping. MSU could never, not with all the breaks in the book, play USC like ND did. MSU is below the Irish because their schedule has been a joke apart from ND and Ohio St.

And yet MSU beat ND.

And yet the Irish playing at just about their absolute best, still lost to USC, just like MSU would have.

Somehow I think you wouldn't be so dismissive of a team that played USC like that if it had been a team you like rather than a team you think is cocky and arrogant.

What if the team I like beat the team that played USC like that? And had as many losses as that team, and was ranked over 10 spots worse?

FSU beat Miami, both 1 loss- Miami ahead of FSU

Florida beat Tennesse, both 2 losses, Tennesse ahead of Florida

Oregon State beat Cal, both 2 losses, Cal ahead of Oregon State

ND is not the only one that has a situation like this. If you are going to complain about all of them, fine. I just don't get why you have to point out only ND.

Yes you're right about Michigan State.

But on your second question I don't see how it's even a question. Purdue is 2-4 overall and 0-3 in the conference. They got embarrassed by ND at home, lost by 17 at home against Iowa and lost at NW and Minnesota. Many thought they could run the table with their schedule.

Iowa is 5-2 and 3-1 in the conference. They got killed by Ohio State, but lost to ISU due to 5 turnovers and Drew Tate being knocked out early. In their last 3 Big Ten games vs. Illinois, @ Purdue and vs. Indiana they've outscored their opponents 107-45. Many expected them to lose @ OSU so really the only unexpected loss was that debacle at ISU.

Michigan is 4-3, 2-2 but lost close to ND, close at Wisconsin and lost close on a fluke play to Minnesota. They had big wins @ Michigan State and vs. Penn State. They've played a very difficult schedule this year.

I honestly don't see how you could even put Purdue and Iowa in the same ballpark. Purdue has also been much, much more disappointing than Michigan.

Possible reason: Got smeared by Ohio State at home, and lost to Michigan (remember, the bad three-loss team that ND 'barely escaped') at home.

Would it be better to start a new thread that pertains to ND and it greatness/suckiness, instead of having multiple threads dealing with the same issue? That way all the conversation would stay in one place. I am getting real confused with all the different talk going on.

Compare to Notre Dame getting rocked(similar in scale to OSU "smearing" MSU) by USC at Notre Dame, then losing agian at home to MSU. There's very little difference. Notre Dame has a tighter loss against a higher ranked team, and Michigan State has a win over someone who's ranked.

Similar in scale? O$U won by 11. Not as close as a last second three point loss.

If people want to look just at the record and not how ND got there (just because Pitt and Purdue are a combined 5-8 doesn't change the fact that ND destroyed them in their own places, and ND's two losses have come in overtime and with 3 seconds left in the game, both against ranked teams), then that is their business. Having watched every minute of all six ND games this year I feel there's no reason at all why ND cannot be considered a top 10 team. If we are going to credit ND's hanging with USC almost exclusively to a rivalry and to the home field, then where was this when Purdue and Pitt were getting smoked at home by ND and when UM turned the ball over three times in the red zone against ND?

I wouldnt dismiss MSUs ability to play SC at home. By what I have seen this year MSU has lost 2 games it very well should have won, and BEAT ND at ND.

On the other hand ND has lost to the 2 teams that it has played that are in the top 25. Got completely outplayed in the 2nd half at Michigan who isnt that good. I said it before and I will say it again ND would be lucky to go 8 and 3 in the big ten. They Probably wouldnt finish in the top 4 next year in the Big Ten. Though some say they will go undefeated next year.

By the way I do not hate ND. I was cheering for them on sat. I just think that they do get a little over hyped when it is undeserving. If Mich St and ND would completely change seasons with each other who would be the higher ranked team. I bet you it would be ND.

Hawkeyecub you are right. Purdue has been the biggest disappointment. though I think with a little thought of how they preformed last year without Orten it could probably have been predicted

If MSU and ND's seasons were reversed then ND would not have played any team that was perceived to be worth a crap until the MSU game. There's a reason the Spartans were unranked going into that game...they'd played their usual cream puff non conference schedule.

As for the Big Ten, ND is 2-1 against the Big Ten this year, 1-1 against two of the best in the conference. The Irish would be right up with PSU, OSU and everyone else at the top of the conference if they were in the B11.

The OSU game was close til the end, the scale comment was in response to the hyperbole on your part.

Of course Pitt and Purdue being terrible doesn't change the fact that ND smoked them. It does change the fact that smoking those teams implies that the winner is good.

I never said to credit ND's hanging with USC entirely to homefield and rivalry, I said that it was part of the reason why I thought it was closer than I anticipated. It was never part of any analysis on my part towards ND.

Right now Michigan, Michigan State, and Purdue are 7th, 9th, and 11th respectively in the Big 10 standings.

yes ND would be 2-1 in the conference with Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Penn St and Ohio St to go. Me thinks that they would lose at least one of those if not more. Also all of these teams with the exception of Nwestern and Penn St will probably be better next year. Also both Michigan and Michigan St will probably be improved next year. I say this every year for those who doubt the Big Ten. Just try playing that schedule some year it is alot harder than you would think.

Here is FoxSports mid-season awards. Was unsure what thread to post this in, and didn't want to start a new one just for this.

This is superb analysis:

"Hawk suffers from the same problem Leinart does; he's so good and playing so flawlessly well, the he's not getting the credit he deserves."

whaaaa?

Haha that is stupid...ask Leinart how flawless he was in South Bend on Saturday. ND's defense almost made him look human - almost.

How is a redshirt freshman from IU ahead of Jeff Samardzija on one man's All-American team? Even the most ardent ND haters fear Jeff.

Well, I'm off for the weekend, will be at the ND/BYU game. GO IRISH!!!!

I wasn't planning on going but I came across some free tickets so I will be there as well. Haven't told my work yet, so that could be interesting.

ND favored by 18.5. I don't think they will cover.
