can i just say that i am so pleased that we took hill out of the rotation for rusch? it is such an improvement and why would we want to see what the kid had? i mean, we need to finish .500...right

I think we saw enough of Hill to know he wasn't ready and needed another pitch or two.

04/04 - 08/24 IP H R ER BB K HR PC BB/9 K/9 HR/9 WHIP ERA
Rusch 106.7 126 54 50 43 87 10 1907 3.63 7.34 0.84 1.58 4.22
Hill 21.0 24 20 20 13 21 3 426 5.57 9.00 1.29 1.76 8.57

21 innings? Seriously?

What is it that leads you to believe he's ready for a slot in the rotation ? Is it the 5.57 walks per game ? or the 1.76 WHIP ?? The 8.57 ERA ?? Or the fact that when he didn't have command of his curve ball, he literally had no way to get anybody out ??

Hill is right where he belongs. When he's mastered his control and a new pitch or two.... he'll be back.

           1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E
Florida 2 0 2 1 0
CUBS 0 0 0 1 0

Today is one of those rare days when I'll watch ESPN instead of WGN. Love to hear what Stoney has to say about the team these days. He's already said he thinks Burnitz will be back next year [-(

Right there is EXACTLY why this team struggles to score runs.

Vargas walks Burnitz, then goes 3-0 to Neifi. Conventional wisdom should tell Neifi to take until he throws a strike. In this case it worked out for Neifi, he swung 3-0 and got a hit, but that is irrelevant. He should have taken right there and made the pitcher earn the at bat. After Neifi gets on, Vargas is still wild, yet Cedeno swings at the first pitch instead of making the pitcher work and throw strikes, Perez and Cedeno allow him to get off the hook as easily as possible. Those two at bats briefly but accurately summarize why this team struggles to score runs.

It's a problem of organizational approach.

Pierre getting on base, Delgado hitting a SF - I can live with that but, why does also have to players like, Conine, the very definition of a baseball schmuck, that excell vs. the Cubs?

1.4 K/9

Huh? I highly doubt Hill was only striking out barely over 1 batter per 9 innings at AAA.

Sorry, trying to post a response quickly - never a good idea.

90 K in 64 IP at AAA. 1.4 K/IP - 12.66 K/9.

Thanks.

That's a bad, baaaad Cub team out on the field today...and think about in in the context of the fact that we only have 1 everyday player hurt (Ramirez).

Just removing 1 player makes us look like an expansion team. Good offseason, Jim. Well put together.

It almost, *almost* exonerates Dusty for being so inept. Look at what he has to work with.

Wow, I called that throw. Either in this thread or the "Nomar starting at 3B" thread I called him tossing one into the crowd... :?

It really shouldn't be nomar's fault. He was trying to go to 2nd but for some reason Neifi was going to cover 1st.

For those of us with Gameday... what happened? Nomar fired a dunston-like line drive into the stands?

Pierre laid down a bunt, Nomar fielded it, but there was no one covering 2nd, so he threw to first, but it was a bad throw.

Lovely. Way to put your team in a "winning position" by not skipping Glensuckdon's spot in the rotation, Suckty.

Neifi was going to first because that's what the defensive rotation called for. Can't blame Neifi for it either.

It's not Rusch's fault the defense behind him sucks. The first inning was his fault. This inning isn't.

"He's saved us, Du..." ah screw it, it's not even funny anymore. This is why this guys was 1-12 (or whatever) for Milwaukee a couple years back
