Alright, time to buckle down and win some games.

Is the season over? Yeah, probably so.

Does that mean we can't have a little fun? Heck no.

So, let's get ready for Ryne Sandberg weekend and get it started with a big ol' fat W against the fighting fish.

Since it's still a little while before the game, how about we post some fond memories of Ryno. . . . .

I remember attending some games in 89 during his 5 consecutive games with a homer streak --- good times for the 1st place Cubs!

We are so losing this game.

Sorry, I was born in '89 and didn't start paying much attention to the Cubs until '03, so I don't have any Ryno memories.

If the Cubs were actually serious about winning, they would skip Rusch's start and go with Maddux, Zambrano and Williams, but alas, they are the Cubs.

Go CUBS !!

I'm not going to even watch this game.

I'm not either. With my job, I make my own schedule and I used to plan my day around the Cubs. Now, I have absolutely no desire to watch them play. Thanks Dusty!

I'd only be able to catch the last few innings anyway.

I no longer have the last period of the day free to watch the Cubs this year.

Sounds like poor planning to me.

Unfortunately, I have no control over the scheduling. I'm teaching at two separate schools now, so that means I have to have my free period in the middle of the day to travel between the schools.

Well.... I didn't say it was YOUR poor planning !!

Seriously, that sounds like a killer. How did that come to pass ?

They redistrubuted the gifted teachers and most of us ended up travelling.

It's not as bad as it seems. The other school is only about a mile or mile and 1/2 away from the one I'm usually at. Today, it was a five minute drive. Because I travel, it gets me out of duty and afternoon faculty meetings. I also can get lunch off campus while I'm traveling.

Yeah... when you put it that way, it doesn't sound half bad at all.

Does it even matter anymore.....

NL Wild Card Standings (Start of Day, 8/26)

PHI ---
FLA 1.5
NYM 1.5
HOU 1.5
WSH 2.5
MIL 6.0
CHC 7.5

Best case scenario today:

CHC defeats FLA
STL defeats WSH
ATL defeats MIL
SF defeats NYM
LAD defeats HOU
ARZ defeats PHI

Would result in:

PHI ---
HOU 1.5
NYM 2.5
FLA 2.5
WSH 2.5
MIL 5.0
CHC 6.5

If nothing else, I'd like to see the Cubs hurt the Marlins chances at making the playoffs. I hate the Marlins.

I started a thread in Baseball Discussions about this but I think it should be mentioned here. Nomar is playing 3B in today's game because Ramirez is being DL'ed. Hairston's leading off with Lawton batting second. I didn't catch the rest of the lineup because I'm so surprised Nomar is playing 3B.

Please let Cedeno start.

HAHHAHAHAHAH!

He's probably behind Perez, Macias, Walker, Hairston, Blanco, Zambrano and Dick Pole on the depth chart for SS right now

Cedeno got called back up??

I would KILL for a lineup like this, well first 2 are already set, but the rest I would kill for;

CF Hairston

LF Lawton

1B Lee

C Barrett

3B Nomar

2B Walker

SS Cedeno

RF Burnitz

P Rusch

(I put Burnitz 8th to "protect Cedeno") *sniggers heartily*
