Not going to speculate, but if anything does come from this and you assume that he would have stopped taking steroids a month or two ago when he would have tested positive, he has still pitched really, really well since then.

Of course, I don't know how long the healing effects from steroids last.

while true, i doubt the media would give him much credit.

If this is true, it will kill baseball in the city of Houston. I am not talking about the astros, the impact it will have on the team pales inn comparison to how Houston will take this news.

I feel for you dude. If it ever came out that Pujols tested positive, my world would be considerably shaken.

I posted a thread about this 3 weeks ago or so. About someone else getting ready to go down for steroids. these rumblings have been around for awhile.

Looks like Damon is denying the rumor that he's one of the guys who tested positive.

Boston Herald

``No way,'' Damon said. ``If I tested something positive for anything, then someone threw something in the (sample). I think it's because of the way I'm built. I've had people thinking that since I was in high school.''

Damon believes reporters are trying to stir the pot.

``I think it starts with a rumor, a reporter somewhere wants to see if a player will crack,'' said Damon, who said he was tested both in spring training and some months ago. ``They'll say anything. They want to come after stars, they want to see how people react.''

I guess you have to believe him. Why would he come out and deny it if he knew that he was going to be suspended soon? Sounds like it might not be him, but another of the Red Sox outfield (Kapler). That ones pretty much a no brainer.

I also found this little snippet in the Hartford Courant

Damon has been an advocate of stricter testing for steroids, so it was surprising that he was linked.

It's uncertain where the rumor originated. Astros pitcher Roger Clemens and Cardinals shortstop David Eckstein were also mentioned as players who tested positive

The guy weighs like 10 pounds and is not ripped whatsoever. How could he be taking steroids? :D

Didn't Alex Sanchez test positive earlier this year?

And Manny Alexander.

Alright, you got me. I guess it would make sense that he'd need to take steroids considering the bat is as big as he is.

You know, it's evil, but the best thing that could happen to this team would be for Damon and Clemens to go down, with it being found that Damon wasn't REALLY on the juice, he just took a bad supplement. That would hurt the 'Stros playoff run AND bring down Damon's contract demands next season. Hehe

Jimy,

Check out Justice's column in the Chronicle today. He says that Bud Selig calls this rumor a total lie. QUOTE:

"He has been so close to perfect that he has become the object of a silly series of rumors. Talk-show gossip has him as one of the 50 or so big-leaguers who have tested positive for steroids.

There's just one problem with those rumors. They're not true.

"They're absolutely not true," commissioner Bud Selig told me Thursday. "I don't know where this stuff comes from. I know this kind of stuff is out there. This isn't journalism's finest hour. Some people ought to be ashamed."

If Selig said that, then there's no way it's true. He won't want to have to issue a retraction and look even dumber than he already does. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Pitcher's arms would fall off if they were on roids. Especially someone that's been pitching for 21 years.

There are different types of steroids and there are some that are en vogue with pitchers. They don't bulk your muscle mass up but make your ligaments tighter so that you can snap the ball quicker and easier in your delivery, etc. I learned about them in this mandatory "steroids suck" class that I had to take when I played ball in college.

Yeah, I know. Many steroids just help your body recover quicker. I had to learn about it in the same mandatory "steroids suck" class when I ran track in college. But down the line they contribute to the muscles deteriorating quicker. For someone at Clemens' age, he wouldn't really have an arm left. At least that's my opinion on it.

I've never heard of that. That's interesting.

Yeah, stuff like Creatine and Andro (to a slightly different extent) really just help your muscles recover quicker. The benefit for weight lifters is that they can work out the muscles more often since they recover that much faster.

Isn't it possible that Clemens only began taking roids in the last few years when it took longer for his muscles to recover (b/c of his age). Therefore, his muscles might not have begun to deteriorate yet. Just a thought.

Yeah, it's definitely possible. But until he gets suspended and they announce it, I'm not going to believe these rumors.

I've also considered the possibility that MLB would try to cover it up if Clemens was busted for roids. Getting Palmeiro is one thing, but Roger Clemens is in a completely different class. That would taint the game more than anything. But that's probably just because I always think there's a conspiracy going on in every situation.

I don't think Clemens is a juicer. I just think he works his butt off and the reason he is so successful is that he has MUCHO experience with good shape.

Yeah, I read somewhere about his workout routine when he was younger. It was pretty intense, and definitely Texan. To strengthen his pitching arm, he used to jam his arm into a barrel of rice. It was like he was trying to punch through to the bottom of the barrel. I don't think he's a juicer either. But think of the black eye baseball will get if this somehow turns out to be true.

That may be true. Unfortunately, the fact that Bonds and Palmeiro used roids to stay productive toward the end of their careers casts a bad light on anyone who stays good into their late 30s or past... and in Clemens case, he's even gotten better at 42-43, which this day in age raises some eyebrows.
