You gotta feel bad for Koronka because he's not really at fault for any of the general insanity, stupidity, and general pandemonium that's surrounded the Cubs this season. He seems like an okay guy who goes out there and tries his hardest on the mound.

Problem is, hard work and dedication can only get you so far in baseball. Something tells me the general population of this board will be screaming for Rich Hill's return after Koronka's callup meets an end.

Why is everyone getting on Hendry for this? There is only one logical explanation for this move. Hendry put out an open promotion in the minors, nobody wanted to be on this team, and Koronka drew the short straw.

Using logic (which Cubs don't usually do), Koronka is not here to start. The next two starters are Maddux and Zambrano, so unless Zambrano is missing a start (aka someone killed him), he'd have been called up to sit and wait for Williams or Hill's spot. That is just not done, so I think If they are bumping out Williams or Hill, he's a place holder/fresh arm for the ragged bullpen until Saturday or Monday. Maybe we'll see Pinto's big league debut on Monday (his day to pitch). He's the only healthy/non-terrible starting pitcher on the 40-man that could be called on.

I know we've had seasons before where plenty of pitchers were sent down, then brought up, then sent down etc... (see Juan Cruz), but I honestly don't think I can remember a season where we've had SO many guys - both position and pitcher coming and going. It's gotta be tough on their mental states.

hopefully this prevents baker from pitching fox...er williamson for the 19th day in a row. or from seeing just how much kerry wood's arm can take.

Looks like Hendry is making moves just to show management he's still trying to win.

While that may be his intent, someone should tell him that bringing Koronka back up doesn't show anybody you are trying to win.

Gosh, who cares?

JH isn't bringing Koronka up to show management he wants to win. You don't win with Jon Koronka.

At this point, he might just be trying to puff his value a bit to position him for an offseason trade. Or they are deperate. Or Koronka is one of "Dusty's Dudes".

Does it really matter? As of this moment we are the worst team in baseball.

No, we aren't. Kansas City gave up something like 11 runs in the 9th inning to lose a game earlier this week. (Importantly, Andy Sisco gave up none in his 1.1 innings of work with 2 Ks.)

And according to Dave "Mr. 'Cat" Eanet, Koronka will be work out of the 'pen.

Dusty said that he'll start "G-Unit" on Monday.

They have to be playing for a draft pick. There is no other explaination. I really wish I could become a bandwagon fan...I really thought we were done with this loveable loser, keystone cops bs.

so shawn estes gets six months of slack while rich hill gets 4 1/3 innings. good to know.

Estes was a gamer dude. Hill isn't a horse yet. He's still just a pony.

The Cubs have to decide whether to keep Koronka on the 40 man during the offseason. Heck, they may be looking to take him off in September to see what some other youngsters can do. He's getting one last chance to hang onto a roster spot.

Season's over anyway, why not see if Koronka can show enough to hang on? Seriously, what is it going to hurt at this point?

At least the other youngsters will know that they'll get a chance before they get lopped off the roster.

I don't disagree. However, my question is this: if we need a lefty replacement for the pen, why not bring up Rohlicek (sp?)?

A. He has spent the entire year in relief.

B. I'm pretty sure he has slightly better numbers.

C. We have seen Koronka at the ML level, but not Rohlicek.

D. Rohlicek, like Koronka, is on the 40 man.

Is there a service time detriment to bringing up Rohlicek that is truly prohibitive?

If we needed a pen lefty because management believes we are still in it, then Bartosh would have been the best choice due to his experience and numbers.

The decision, while not having a major impact, is indicative of the curious thought processing that is going on with management. Thats what is the most difficult for me to swallow.

Bartosh is ruled out because we'd have to clear 40 man space for him.

Rohlicek is probably not in as much danger of losing his roster spot as Koronka, therefore has a less immediate need to prove himself.

I would like to see some unambiguous "white flag" type moves soon. If the moves are subtle Dusty won't understand them, so Hendry better send clear messages. Dumping Neifi and Holla would be an easy start.
