WHY ISNT LAWTON PLAYING?!?!?!

DOES IT MATTER!?!?!?

If we were getting killed, I could see the reason for the consternation, but we're winning for the first time in like 2 weeks, so just enjoy it! :D

I wish Mulder would get his ****ing act together.

The trade is already regrettable with Haren't success in Oakland...if Barton amounts to anything, the trade will be the worst in Jocketty's tenure in St. Louis.

He just does not pitch inside!

He was awesome in the first half of 2004 and all of 2003.. what happened?

I wouldn't go that far. He is 13-5 with a 2.4ish ERA in his last six starts (obviously before today).

I admit that I selectively used numbers, but it's not like the guy has fallen off the table. Before today he was 13-5 with a 3.79 ERA. I would rather have a guy give up 7 ER in one game than scatter those around middling starts. No, 4.10 is not stellar, but after giving up 7 in this game, it's not horrible either.

Wow, 18 decisions in 6 starts is impressive.

I might value wins more if you can have 13 of them in a short amount of time.

I love it when managers cont. to micromanage despite the score of the game.

Because it's much more admirable to concede victory. Wow, sure looks good to your players!

Earler in the year, down 6, the Cardinals put up 7 runs in the ninth inning. While the chances of that happening are overwhelmingly unlikely, why not play just for that chacne?

[Jeromy Burnitz]Dude! Like that's so totally true, man.[/Jeromy Burnitz]

Oh. Well, Len said something about Lawton having went 5-36 vs Mulder, so we all know how Dusty loves his "playing the averages", so he sat him for Macias.

I keep wanting to think we have a good chance to win this game... but then I remember how we find ways to lose...

Of course, by winning today, we're doomed to loose a good bit the next few days... because the lineup won't change... and that's a bad thing...

To be fair he sat him for Murton, and sat Burnitz (who needs it) for Macias.

Yes, b/c pitching to the #8 hitter is throwing in the perverbial towel?

There's a difference between conceeding victory and pitching around a #8 hitter who has been poor all year to get to the pitcher. That's a poor move to begin with, not even factoring the score of the game.

The score of the game only compounds the move, IMO.

This team, after 2 weeks of complete suckatude, is making a futile attempt to win me back...

It's like a girl breaking up with you, you go through all the stages of getting over her, but finally you are finally back to normal and almost completely over her.....

...then suddenly she comes over wasted at 3AM talking about how much she wants you back and she misses being with you

I think if we can end the year with a winning record against the Cardinals, it won't be a complete failure.

with all due respect, that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. That's like Bears fans who say "I don't care how we do overall as long as we beat the Packers".

So you'd be okay if the Cubs lost 90 games every year as long as they won at least 9 from St. Louis each season?

LOL now that sounds like a Dusty sound bite!

Agreed, at this stage beating the Cards means as much as beating Mil and Hou.

This is likely a random event moreso than any more effort exerted as far as why have played better today than the 8 game losing streak, I hope.

Do you guys attribute the wake up to Dusty or solely the players (or our soft pitching)?

Neither. When you have nothing to lose, there's often a tendency to play your best, or at least go (you-know-what) out.

I love it when managers cont. to micromanage despite the score of the game.

Micro-managing to some, successful managing to others. What's wrong with getting a regular some time off during a blowout?

THIS YEAR. That's obviously not my hope for every year. It's just that I have no faith in anything good happening for this year, so if we end with a winning record against our hated rivals and the best NL team that's something good.

Am I gonna get banned?

I'm really not doing anything wrong, just stating my (obviously) biased opinions.

Do you guys allow Cards fans here, or pretty much just kick 'em out for no apparent reason?

That's cold comfort as far as i'm concerned.

Who said pulling Eckstein was a part of reasoning?

Pitching around the #8 hitter to get to the pitcher was my reasoning. I'll be more than happy to explain my thesis on why not to pitch around a #8 hitter.
