Macias is just 81 hits from the 500 career-hits milestone and Hollandsworth is 10 HR away from the 100 career-HR mark. You don't want to take away valuable AB's in their quests for these great feats.

It's not that the Cubs have been losing, it's how they've been losing.

 

Horrid fundamentally, horrid defensively, poor offensive approach, awful bullpen. This isn't a team that's going to be reeling off any long winning streaks anytime soon. At least not one that isn't followed by a losing streak.

Trading for Lawton was a mistake. The correct action was to fire Dusty because he refused to use available options.

 

All I can conclude is A) Hendry wants to be fired or B) The Tribune wants to see empty seats.

I think Hendry, who I think has done a good job, may be too connected to Baker to cut him lose. That might not bode well for him as I could see a dual firing occuring when the season is over.

Oh, Hendry will cut Baker loose. Last year, despite the finish, at least had the "2 seasons in a row over .500" silver lining. This season, if we finish at or below .500, I think a slow start next year means Baker's ass. Sure, Hendry has a lot tied into Baker, but he has a lot tied into this farm system too, and if having Baker around is the difference between Hendry having a job with the Cubs, and having a job at Burger King, Baker is gone.

I was just thinking the same thing. That is so pathetic. 7-8 and now 7 going on 8. You just cant compete playing baseball that way. 2 of those streaks are in the last month and half. Since July the Cubs are 13-23. How many teams are worse than that.
