So how do you suggest trading someone with a no-trade clause. Or do you suggest we waive him and let someone have him for free?

Just bc he's got a no-trade doesn't mean he can't be traded, if we don't want him here why would he himself want to stay with this club, I'm sure that there's teams out there that want him and he wants to be with, it wouldn't be mission impossible.

If he asked for the no-trade clause, he likely asked for it with a reason: that he wants to be a Cub.

Secondly, he married a woman who is from Chicago and they have a home in Chicago. That likely makes him want to stay.

Third, he will likley want concessions to waive the no-trade clause which would reduce his value in a trade.

Fourth, he's still a good pitcher when healthy. It makes no sense to trade him.

And yes, a no-trade clause means he can't be traded without his consent. I've yet to see any inclination that Wood wants to be traded. I think the list of teams he would accept a trade to would be very small indeed.

WOOD HAS A NO TRADE CLAUSE. While, technically, he can still be traded, it's simply not likely. Consider these factors:

1. There's maybe 5 teams Wood would accept a trade to, and I think I'm being very liberal with this guess.

2. Of those 5 possible teams only, they still have to provide the players that Hendry wants to move Wood. And, sorry, they aren't going to give up much for an expensive, injury-prone pitcher. Unless you want Hendry to get Farnsworth'd again.

KERRY WOOD WILL REMAIN A CUB. STOP PUTTING OUT TRADE IDEAS.

So, who takes Wood's spot on the roster?

I'd like to see Hill get a start.

Just cuz he's got a woman from Chicago, he's got a home, and he signed with a no-trade, doesn't mean he'd be unwilling to be trade. If the cubs simply find a good trade partner and ask him to waive it, first off Wood's gotta want to play for a team that wants him and hopefully that team is a team he wouldn't mind playing for.

And yeah he's a good pitcher WHEN HEALTHY, when has he been healthy anyway? not in the past 2 years, that's too long for the cubs to keep getting pushed back and hoping for him to return in a 2,4,8 weeks. Begging a season you've gotta have a set rotation, with Wood in there the rotation is never set cuz he hasn't been able to stay healthy, and then the Cubs have gotta hope for guys like Rusch or Mitre to step in, thankfully they've done a decent job, but you can't go on doing this year after year like they've done 04-05, it's that simple.

Just cuz he's got a woman from Chicago (1), he's got a home(2), and he signed with a no-trade(3), doesn't mean he'd be unwilling to be trade. .

Why did he sign the clause in the first place if he wasnt unwilling to be traded.

But, even in the remote possibility hendry decides to try to work a deal, there are three reasons it wont happen.

Maybe cuz times change, feelings change, and new begginings aren't always bad, that's why. And yeah it'd be hard to trade him cuz there are a lot of things to take care of, but if they somehow did work out a deal, I'd be all for it.

So, why do you believe he wanted a no-trade clause?

Outside of the obvious no trade clause problems, I really don't see what any team would give up that could be considered fair value for how good Wood really is (and he is good, that is not the debate). Don't forget that he's getting paid quite a bit (especially considering his love for the DL) - unless the Cubs just want to dump him a la Sosa (won't happen, ever) there are only a handful of teams that would take him on anyway. This would leave the potential destination list at...noone.

Move on. He's not going anywhere. We've all already grown accustomed to this DL hokey pokey (you put your right shoulder in...)

STOP PUTTING OUT TRADE IDEAS.
Stop telling posters to stop suggesting trades. People are entitled to suggest trades regardless of how likely they are.

Here's an idea. Lets call up Guzman next year. I hear he is recovering well and should be ready. Then we can have Wood start every 10 days and Guzman start every 10 days. It may be the only way for them to be effective for a full season. I know it's a rooster spot, but we already have 12 pitchers anyway and could maybe let Wood and Guzman go a little deeper into the games.

It absolutely baffles me that he keeps getting injured. If it is his mechanics, fix them. His delivery will change and he may be less effective (or maybe even more effective), but at least he'll make his starts.

I love Wood and I don't want to see him traded (which is unlikely in any event), but I want to see him pitch for bleep's sake.
