Why not just start Rusch who's proven he's a good starter and just put Hill in the pen? I'd rather see Rusch pitch that's for sure. Sure Hill has done real well and put up sick K numbers in AAA and even at MLB level, but against righties and major leaguers seeing him 3-4 times in one game, he's probably gonna get lit up.

Hill's ability to strike out runners is an advantage especially before the ML's get a good read on him. I'm not certain if he's stretched out enough to go deep in a game but it wouldn't be out of the norm to have him go 5 innings then have Glendon come in out of the bullpen (or vice versa).

Rusch hasn't proved any such thing. He was mediocre his last few starts and indeed, has been for most of his career. Give Hill the damn ball.

IIRC, he went 7 innings in his last start.

 

Here's his last 4 starts from what I can gather:

 

7/1: 3 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 5/1

7/5: 5 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 6/2

7/14: 6 scoreless, 4 H, 5/2

7/19: 7 scoreless, 3 H, 6/0

 

That's 21 IP, 6 ER, 17 H, and 22/5. 2.57 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 9.43 K/9, and a 4.4 K/BB. Really solid work.

Well, according to the Des Moines Register Hill has been recalled, so this looks like a moot argument for now.

Was Wood DL'ed or who did we send down to make room for Hill?

No official word yet. My guess is Mitre gets sent to the wolves... I mean gets sent down.
