Hmm...interesting....

Gerut's carrer line and season line:

G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS BA OBP SLG OPS

304 1096 150 291 73 8 34 137 107 143 18 12 .266 .337 .440 .777

44 138 12 38 9 1 1 12 18 14 1 1 .275 .357 .377 .733

I'd say this is a completely lateral move, but that's too easy to say.

No offense, man, but I hope your source is wrong.

I guess its true.

Gerut's power has been lacking this season, but in previous years it has been there. Steriods? I hope not. In any case, his OBP is an improvement over Holla so far this season. A Gerut/Murton platoon in LF anyone?

It doesn't seem like that bad a deal. He's left handed, knows how to take a walk. Not much power for an outfielder, but he seems like a solid pickup for the bench. Given how Dubois was struggling at the major league level, this seems like a decent addition when it comes to depth.

Well, let's see how this one pans out.

I'm not a fan at this point...I'll reserve judgment for now, but the numbers don't look good...

Not a surprise that the Cubs picked him up. He has played a few games in CF, and Bruce Levine reported this morning that the Cubs would make a minor trade to get a backup outfielder. I am a little surprised that Dubois was involved, but he is probably better suited for the AL where he can DH if his defense isn't up to his club's standards.

Why not keep Grieve? It's almost the same player.

I doubt it. The guy is an everyday player. Murton may be on his way back to AA or perhaps Holla is going some where? Someone's going ... Maybe something else is brewing.

Edit: Mike Murphy seems to think this guy is an everyday player. i must admit I know very little about him.

Agreed. At first look, he looks like he's a pretty average player that doesn't do anything exceptionally well. Hopefully he's part of a bigger plan.

Good point. Grieve's slg. % is even a little stronger. Maybe it's that he has the potential to back up center field.

Dubois wasn't going to get any PT with Dusty at the helm, unfortunately. Gerut has experience in the majors and should at least see regular time on this team.

I'm guessing Murton gets shipped to AAA after this?

His source is never wrong, that's why it is well-placed.

And Gerut's a much, much better OF than Dubois will ever be.
