I would be fine with the season being much shorter. LIke 120 games

I don't get this.  You would rather have MORE of the most agonizingly slow and boring off-season in sports?

It’s a pull heavy lineup full of guys with 20-25 home run power. Not a ton of diversity, and Nico’s struggles are killing them as the teams lone bat ball skills guy, who’s impervious to the elements.

Great lineup, lots of warning track power that struggles to manufacture runs in bad conditions or when the wind blows in, which is compounded by a bad slump.

This offseason would be sorta perfect for Hoyer to change a bit of the dynamic of this team, with alot of payroll opening up.

With Happ, and Suzuki being FA, maybe trading Amaya and bringing up Ayers.

Build the bench up around Pedro.

Go out and get some power arms for the bullpen, add a solid starter ot two to go with Steele.

He should be very active this offseason if the CBA stuff doesn't kill it

I dont want nor think theyd ever go to 120 games but I think if forever crazy reason they would,  I think the offseason would remain the same, they would just give them more days off and basically play 20 games a month.

Why are they trading Amaya? What does that do? I get brining up Ayers, but trading Amaya doesn’t open up payroll nor get them anything back that is that great.

I don't think 162 games tells us much more than 140 or 120 games does.

I can't say it'll never happen, but they won't trade Amaya.  His wRC+ is the same as Kelly, and he's rated as a better defender than Kelly.  He's also cheap + Kelly will be a free agent.

I think the Cubs will sign a veteran catcher that could go along with Amaya and Ayers.

You want less baseball? What is wrong with you?

I would make Spring Training a week and a half long if I could

Honestly, because of weather, I would be ok with 145 games. Start a little later and end a little earlier. I think it kind of sucks to determine a champion in games that could be 35 degrees or even less.
Or maybe play the first 2 weeks of the season at the spring training facilities. End the regular season mid September and the playoffs mid October. Better chance of not awful weather. I know they would never do this. Too much revenue lost. Just saying baseball kind of sucks in freezing temps. Especially when it is the most important baseball of the season.

Insane take. Longer spring training is fine but 162 needs to be non negotiable.

Why?

Why?

Because I enjoy watching baseball games and I don’t want to lose out on opportunities to do so because people who don’t like baseball want there to be fewer baseball games.

I love baseball, but it has always had the most ridiculously long season. Hell, 80+ games for NBA and NHL are also too long

I agree on the other sports but with baseball I love a long season.  162 is a love story.

I love baseball too. And 162 games is fine. But I don’t like the season decided in a cold climate with bad weather. And that is what you get in October, unfortunately.

This whole idea of taking or looking upon an organization' current farm success as a given for the future is nonsense.  There's way too many random variables involved in a baseball player' development.  Yes, the Brewers are having some success but, to extrapolate that to continued success while, at same time, extrapolating the Cubs system to continued non-success is folly.  There's absolutely no reason the Cubs system can't start to churn out some pitching in the coming years just because of the Brewers success.  Total BS.  Once the Brewers graduate all their surefire HOF'ers they'll have a downturn as well, it happens, even to the infallible Brewers.

I'm with Rcall and others, the constant defeatism here surrounding the Cubs in everything they do is getting tiresome.

4 division titles in a row, higher wins per season trend, all done with a high degree of self-developed talent. Of course it’s stupid to just assume the future will be exactly the same but the Brewers system is intentional, sustainable, and highly successful. What I’m more skeptical about is this idea that they cannot succeed in the postseason, just because they haven’t in past years.

Cubs defeatism is also stupid, and I suspect a high degree of it is an emotional rather than intellectual viewpoint.  What you are saying is absolutely true, and further - we should expect the farm to start producing better talent.

It's nothing to do with past years and everything to do with how recent champions have profiled (and how the Brewers profile differently). Great pitching is great and all, but the Brewer offense is not one that typically succeeds in the postseason

Maybe you don’t actually like sports that much then. Being able to watch your team almost daily is part of the appeal to me.

There is where we are different. I wholly love baseball in the cold.

I just don't know that it takes 82 games to determine who is/isn't good enough for the playoffs

Thats irrelevant to what Im saying though, I don’t care about how many games it takes to determine who should/shouldnt be in the playoffs, I want to watch my team play as many games as possible.

I hate watching minor league talent wear major league uniforms, im going to call out the pitching until they play like big leaguers.

So it is fun to you to watch angry all the time. Cubs are a good team and yet any time they lose you lose your mind. How is that fun? What will happen when you actually follow a bad team? I’m not criticizing you. I honestly am asking “how much fun are you really having”?
