why oh why is this a night game

It does suck. I had no idea it was a night game until after I made plans this evening. Typically a very safe bet the Cubs are playing early on Sunday. Damn it.

Cubs released Ed Howard...

He's a member of the Corey Patterson "what if he didn't get a bad injury in the midst of a breakout?" club.

Granted, most teams would gladly take a do-over on that 2020 draft.

I don’t think that is close to fair comparing Howard to Patterson. Corey actually did make the majors and did play well until getting hurt. He was also a top prospect. Howard never proved to hit, even before the injury. One was an absolute bust of a pick. The other was a good pick who got hurt and never overcame his injury.
I do agree the 2020 draft was a crazy draft with little to go on. Basically you had to get lucky with who you took, based on limited input.

No he's not. Corey was still quite good in 04 and hung around the majors for several seasons after. Theyre not comparable.

Patterson at least made it and actually had a couple good seasons before he got hurt, just never was able to find that groove again when he returned.

That 2020 draft was stupid, Howard for whatever reason never played up to what was expected of him, and now kids drafted after him in cubs system are passing him up

At least they ended up with the guy drafted 3 spots after Howard, and that's worked out ok so far.

Jed’s biggest mistake was drafting Howard instead of PCA.

This is silly. Pete wasn't a Troutian late-first round steal. He was a lottery ticket. (Or maybe a high floor? I can't remember exactly. There seemed a real chance he'd never get to his power bc of contact issues.)

Cubs coaching deserves a ton of credit for unlocking his 99th percentile outcome.

San Diego just choked a game away in an unfathomable manner.  I can’t believe how lucky the Rays are.

And I am happy they are lucky. Glad to see the Padres lose.

Rangers are getting ready to choke their game away against the Brewers as well.

Honestly, I couldn’t care less about the Brewers. I am only concerned about them when we play them. They are going to win the division. I have made peace with that.

High floor. He was already considered a generational defender before the draft so he had an easy path to the big leagues regardless of his bat.

Is this game happening? Weather looks dicey

Looks like it clears out 7:30-8:00 and then very little chance of rain. So maybe a later start? But they will play.

Yep, the Mets GM at the time has gone on record saying they were comfortable trading him because they didn't think he'd ever hit enough.

Which is stupid because PCA, I believe, never took an at-bat with the Mets organization. So how do you (Mets, in this case) know he would "never hit enough?"

That Mets GM did PCA a big time favor by trading him.
