That’s an AB that would be impossible to fathom from PCA even a year ago. Goes down in the count with 2 strikes on him against a lefty, works it full and hits a line drive single. Incredible improvement.

I could not agree more.  His maturation has been awesome to see.

JD: “ahhhh Boyd drops a deuce in there to get ahead in the count.” I love his baseball talk, while dropping in some quality humor. Well done, sir

Hoping this all star break reset fixes Nico and he gets his confidence back.

Happ too, they need them both hitting better

Note in Gameday:

Matthew Boyd is allowing a higher hard-hit rate vs. last season (38% -> 50%, MLB avg: 39%).

Is this something that has gotten better over the year? Was worse just before IL stint?  Cause for concern?

Counsell sticking with Boyd,  he dont wanna go to that pen just yet 😅

Squeezing as much out of his SP pitchers with a four run lead is solid - hopefully the pen can close this out without drama

I think his sample size is still too low to make any judgements on stats like that

I guess he didn't want to see Elly as a LHB.

I saw Wiggins returned to the bump last Friday. How’d he do? News or buzz about him coming up at some point?

He didn’t do too well. 3 runs in 3 innings, or something like that.

That K by Gavin was bigger than many might think - if he gives up a hit or Bleday gets on then you have to face Suarez with two on. Huge inning!

Way to battle, Boyd! Nice finish by Hollowell

Yeah that’s a bit shaky, but first game back knocking off some rust I’m sure. Thanks man 👍

He threw 40 pitches in the first inning so didn't really have much of a chance after that. Velo was good in the first but fell off after that

Good challenge, Carson.  This might be the best Hollowell I've ever seen.

His stuff was moving.

Moving and had great command today. His delivery is tough for hitters to queue up too, so if he’s in he will be tough

Let’s hold this in the ninth.  I am nervous.

I'm not nervous yet.😅

said it before but PCA taking walks on a regular basis is seriously breaking my brain. like...he horsefeathers did it. he unlocked that very thing he needed to do in order to be the total package.

PCA is gonna head into the All Star break (hopefully he doesn't have to bat again) with a .386 OBP.

A legitimate 'best hitter on a good team' 1st half performance. Plus all the other stuff he does, obviously.
