Hello all! @Mitch Widmeierand myself would like to add another section into the podcast where we can filter in any questions/topics from the forum. We've been taking questions on our Youtube live but want to make an easy place for you all to jump in here as well.

Planning on jumping on live between Game 1 and Game 2 of the doubleheader tomorrow so if you have anything you'd want either of us to address, add to the pod, etc, just drop it here before Game 1 ends and we'll do our best! Candidly I've got my own game to get to at some point tomorrow night so we can't take everyone of them each week, but we do want you to be apart of it.

We're hoping to make it as interactive as possible.

What do you want to see from this team in the next 5 weeks to justify buying at the trade deadline?

I’m certain the Cubs are better than they’ve played the past 6 weeks, but I don’t think they’re good enough to justify selling prospects to win this year unless there’s someone who’s over performing and we’re just trying to sell high on (maybe a Pedro Ramirez?)

With the pitching injuries we’ve had this year, I don’t see a rental (Tarik Skubal) making enough of a difference. If Steele or Horton were healthy, and Shota/Cabrera hadn’t become so inconsistent I’d say sure… but that’s not the case. I feel like if we were to acquire anyone substantial at all, he’d have to come with team control through 2028 for me to be happy with the trade, and that would obviously be costly prospect-wise.

Is it time to be sellers if Cabrera’s injury is season ending? Realistically they have no shot, and it makes little sense to sell the future for a present that looks untenable

can you do a "where are they now?" of past NSBB posters:

I'll ask Brock if it's in the podcast budget to hire a PI.

I don’t think it is time to sell, even if Cabrera is out long. But I do think the target has to be different. Has to be for a pitcher with at least 2 or, preferably,  3 years after this year. Detmers and Soriano are a couple of options. I would start with Shaw and see what else they want. The Red Sox have a few pitchers to target as well.

Cubs hitters are currently leading the league in walk rate. PCA, Busch, Dansby, and Amaya are all sporting career best figures. I'd be curious as to the how/why so many guys are taking big steps forward.

Thats a really good one! And one I will *probably* have to look into more than just the 9th inning. If you're patient, I'll make sure to address it next week because unlike some of the others one (and no shade to them they're good too!) they're more opinionated and this feels like it has some sort of an answer. And I want to give it the attention and research it deserves!

Take it and run with it. I haven't written an article here in like a decade.

I'm always interested in new ideas. I'm about to be real bored in the next 48 hours; wife is away, and summer break is on. I'm headed out of town end of next week, but about 3pm tomorrow and then I've got plenty of researching time. And then after mini-vacation too.

Is Jed’s aversion to paying top dollar for a starting pitcher on a long terms deal a matter of fear of attrition or is the lack of quality arms in the farm system hand cuffing him financially to make a big splash signing? He’d have to focus on a quantity of high floor vets on safe deals to supplement the ML roster if it’s not simply cowardice.

And of course the reverse Coors effect that the Cubs defense has on the pitching ranking 29th in war and 17th in ERA. Ben Brown and Cade Horton have xFIPs and xERAs well over a run higher than their true numbers and I’m assuming their ability to minimize home runs and induce enough soft contact to reap the benefits of the great defense makes this relatively sustainable? (In a world where Cade isn’t on the 1.5 year IL and Sox fan pope Bob isn’t using the power of God to injure Cubs pitchers).
