Cubs signing Michael Conforto

Kinda feels like Conforto and McCormick are gonna make the team barring injury or they look downright awful the next few weeks. McCormick can play all three OF spots and has a plus glove, in addition to the options mentioned above. 

Conforto has some power and a higher offensive floor than Carlson right now but Carlson is a good option to have in Iowa unless he has an Opening Day opt out.

Id like to have Conforto on the bench because of the power. Not expecting much out of him though. Could go either way on McCormick or Carlson.

Bench seems to look better than it was opening day 2025.

Carlson is 5 for 10 this spring with 4 walks. I wouldn't count him out yet.

Opening day last year we had Carson Kelly, a guy with a 96 wRC in 2024, a guy with a 116 wRC in 2024, and Gage Workman

Right now we're looking at Carson Kelly (but a year older), a guy with a 93 wRC last year, a guy with an 83 wRC last year, and either a 62 wRC (McCormick) or a 74 wRC (Carlson) 2024 performance.

That's not to say it won't be better, but being a successful bench player is seemingly really hard.

it's a niche, right? Gotta be good enough to be in the MLB, not good enough to start, and defensively viable. And willing to not take a starting gig for the A’s, Angels and their ilk.
