The Bulls don’t have a closer because they don’t have a star

You're not wrong, but Giddey and Coby were out last night. I believe Giddey is a potential all star this year, but not a last shot kinda guy

was fun thinking they had a little something going to start the season

But that;s over now.

Another Bulsl boards is arguing over the merits of trading for a very old, expensive, injury prone Anthony Davi. My thought is, "Why?"

This is what AK wanted - a bunch of good but not great players. That won’t get a team anywhere long-term.

I don't think it's necessarily what he "wanted", but I still like this team and think they could be feisty.  They have MASSIVE rim protection and paint issues, though.

How they use the massive amount of cap space they're about to have will define the Giddey window, though.  You've got a budding star on a great contract, with some nice supporting pieces around him.  Hopefully they are able to retain Coby/Ayo and address their big man issues as well.  Fortunately, I think they can be patient with Dallas if they're looking to unload Davis (which they should, he'll be a black cloud reminder of Luka until he's gone).  If they can get him for something like Vuc, PWill, Carter and picks you do it.  Not many teams can even afford Davis so the Bulls have all the leverage in this potential deal.

Even if it's not Davis, the Bulls need to seriously address the paint situation.  Hopefully Collins can help some when he gets back.  They need to reanimate 2005ish Tyson Chandler.

“In terms of moving forward, I think there’s different structures that you can try to get to your championship,” he said. “There’s (having) two, three star players and a lot of role players or you can build a (team) of 9 or 10 very good players. I think now we’re leaning towards having a lot of solid good players, 9 or 10, that can last through the season because there’s going to be injuries.  I think more and more teams are doing that.”

Your chances of repeating the Pistons 2004 team is very rare. It is just not a reliable way to build a championship team.

Especially when I'd argue they don't have a player currently on the roster as good as any of Billups, Rip, Prince, Rasheed or Ben Wallace.  Maybe Budzelis gets there, but they seem far away from replicating either model.

I think people are shorting Coby and especially Giddey in terms of how good they could be.  Giddey regularly puts up Jokic & Jokic-lite stat lines, is only 23 and on a great contract.

They badly need an athletic big who can protect the paint, but there are some nice pieces in place and I still think they can be the Pacers of last year.

Bulls beat the Nuggets. Jokic looked like he might pull a triple 20 at one point.

The bench totally won this one. Major +/- splits.

the bulls' bench outscored denver's bench 66-7

Bulls blowing a big lead is their calling card. But a great win nonetheless!

It's not them blowing the big lead that bothered me, it was how fast they blew the lead is what made it frustrated.

However, their next 10 games are rough, with 7 road games and home games against the Knicks, 76ers and Spurs. If they're still above .500 after that stretch, maybe they can climb out of the play-in hellscape they created for themselves.

10 games later, they did beat the Knicks and 76ers at home, and won road games at Denver and Portland, so they barely came out of it over .500. So, maybe they are a playoff team. They have a win against the 13-2 Pistons and are the only team to win in Denver thus far.

Would still like to see them put a team away just once, though. The schedule will ease up significantly here in the next couple weeks, though, 6 of their next 8 games are against the dregs of the league, with their other games coming aganist the Heat and Magic, two teams the Bulls will be battling with for playoff positioning.

Need at least a 6-2 stretch here to keep feeling good about them.

Yeah, gotta clean up on the dregs here.  8-6 is a solid record considering who they've played so far; I was anticipating something worse during that stretch before the season, despite being optimistic about their chances overall.

Following the NBA is a lot more fun when the Bulls are at least semi-relevant so I hope they can take advantage.

As if NBA basketball isn't unwatchable enough, these court colors are getting out of control.  I don't want to watch a game that makes it look like my TV is broken.

Was last night's game a NBA Cup game? I'm still not even understanding what's up with those courts. Is it like the yellow first down marker in NFL where it's faked in behind the players, but full screen? Or do they actually put a different flooring in for Cup games? I'm literally stupid about this. I'm also glad I didn't watch last night's game.

Yes, different floor for NBA Cup games to alert viewers that this game is different
