I dunno man I'm only gonna do so much leg work to debunk the absurd contortions people will do to create points of worry.  Apparently games in April don't count unless they're in the last week of April because that's when the real teams really get going?  Maybe it has to do with the phase of the moon or something

No leg work necessary.  The other teams are not doing the same.  Saved you the time.  Simply stated we’re beating bad teams and playing much worse than other first place teams league wide against .500 teams.  No contortions necessary.  Straight and forward.

Why does it seem like they struggle to get that ghost runner home often..

Gonna be tough to hold them here with who they have up now

I hate the ghost runner. One of the worst Manfred changes imo

No, but we’ve been offensively challenged for the last 4-5 series.  And that was the initial point.  We’re beating bad teams and playing. Way poorly against solid teams.  Much more so than the other first place teams league wide.

The cubs since 5/15 have the most offensive fWAR in baseball. I don’t know what sample size we’re slicing and dicing in this argument but it’s probably fine.

The cubs are playing at a 100 win pace 40% of the way through the season while receiving, due to injuries, 0.3 fWAR from their top two starters.

understandably, people are very upset about this.

No, as has been mentioned and for some reason you refuse to stay on point, the offense has been quite “offensive” so a weak weeks now.  Beating up on bad teams, and not playing well against good ones.  Beat up on bad teams and play .500 against the good ones and all is right with the world.

Is Shaw going to be a gold glover or is he just very good?

Apparently, GG

As mentioned earlier, the cubs are 17-17 against over 500 teams this year, so they are doing exactly what you are saying in the last sentence.

Shaw’s defense has been one of the biggest surprises for me this season. I did not expect him to handle the hot corner so well this quickly.

We don't have to do this thing where we get anxious that the last 10 days are about to be the permanent norm, it is the most freeing thing about baseball season.  Something really good happened?  Enjoy it, it's unexpected and it probably won't last.  Something bad?  Easy come easy go, the next regression is around the corner.

Btw, the 2 best teams in the NL against > .500 records last year were the Braves and Brewers, who proceeded to go 1-4 in the playoffs and play 0 games in the divisional/championship series.

The .500 team record is silly. The Diamondbacks and Rangers played in the World Series 2 years ago with a combined record of 82-95 against teams above .500 in the regular season.  The season before the Phillies made the World Series after a 32-47 record against above .500 teams.  The regular season is weird and long and is why you need 162 games to allow the best team to emerge as much as possible.

Yes when Babe Kelly was going nuts as were several other players in the team, we were killing it against over .500 teams.  It has been much much worse since late April as the original poster suggested when this started.  They are not playing well against decent teams for a while now.  Maybe it’s just a bad stretch, but it’s getting somewhat concerning to some people.  Maybe we’re just dumb.
