Bats are slumping a little bit, aside from the 9-0 win. That's 4 of the last 5 games they have been held under 5 runs. Teams don't generally score much against the Pirates on Skenes day, could be 5 of 6. We need outstanding pitching today.

He's in this slump because he's 40 damn years old and isn't good at baseball anymore. I'm getting really tired of this annual ritual of letting completely toasted players waste outs for a month and a half.

That could be it, but in Turner's defense he isn't playing everyday and it's hard to hit like that.

I think Counsell wants to keep guys sharp and get the bench some playing time, but there's downsides to that too if they just haven't been good.

They can keep being a really good hitting team but there's no way the Cubs offense can keep up the pace they've been on all year.  Bound to regress to the mean a bit.

To be fair, the pace of the Cubs offense in the last 5 games would have put them 16th in all of baseball last year, so this isn't some crushing slump they've been in.

Just for comparison here is the 2023 offense after 31 games vs. 2025 offense after 31 games.

2025: .263/.341/.451/.792

2023: .270/.341/.436/.777

We also started out hot somewhat hot offensively in 2024, but faded much quicker and for longer.  I definitely think this team is much better equipped to sustain the offense and not fall into a 2 month slump like we did in 2023 though.

Obviously not crushing, although with the pen they have, it'll hurt more often than not

This is also consistent with other accounts from people who were in attendance. Sounds like this guy has some personal demons to work out. Hopefully he will recover and this incident will help him do that.

Walk on a strike called a ball followed immediately by the guy being driven in.

Gonna be one of those weeks, I guess
