Swanson is a black hole of suck right now.

Thought he swung and missed at two hanging breaking balls the other day, were these just as bad?

I didn't think it possible for the Cubs to find a worse contract and possibly player than Jason Heyward, but here we are.  They would have lost nothing by keeping Nico at shortstop and using that money towards a SP or a different need

know this offense is a juggernaut and stuff, but they sure seem to suck at the "guy on 3rd, less than two outs" thing.

They've been really good with RISP in general, so I think it probably just feels more like that.

3rd in BA, 2nd in wRC+, 3rd in ISO, leading in RBI.

Swanson has been really good, man. 6th best SS fWAR last two years in baseball. Swanson already has more fWAR in two years than Heyward in his entire Chicago Cub tenure.

His defense is certainly excellent.  I just thought that when the Cubs got him, we'd get a couple of seasons where he looked in Atlanta where he was a genuinely a really good hitter at the plate.. still time I guess.  He's too talented to hit this badly

Yeah, he's not hit as well, but I really didn't expect that. He's been a 102 wRC+ hitter the last two year - that'll play.. And last year he had the hip thing. His batted ball data looks better than the raw data. He is in one of his slump things right now (I agree with JD he's pulling off right now). But he'll get it back.

Yeah Dansby has defensive value but his bat has fallen off considerably from his first season. No one in their right mind would hand Dansby that contract today.

its clearly time to move PCA up in the lineup and move turdsby swanson down

OT: I remember a lot of people, including myself, that were intrigued about a possible Bo Bichette trade in previous seasons, I just saw that this guy hasn't had a home run in over 100+ plate appearances this year and not since June of last season.  Crazy how much things change in this game because he used to be a premier player

We know better than to make decisions based on 25 games like that. Do we think the Mets are royally horsefeathered because Juan Soto has a 115 wRC+ through 25 games?

He's slumping right now, but he's not toast. Would anyone offer him 7 years at 31 now? No, probably not. He's also two years older. Would someone have offered him the AAV the Cubs did this last offseason? Probably more - he's a good player and his contract has been a very good one thus far. He needs like two good weeks. There's nothing in the data suggesting he's toasted all of a sudden.

Maybe they told him to bunt because they figured that he'd hit into a double play if he made contact?

Why on earth is Dansby hitting before Nico… and PCA and Kelly. He can hit before Berti, who really cares.

So dumb.

My thinking is that with Happ, Tucker, and Suzuki at the top you want guys at the bottom who'll get on base more in front of them.

I disagree man, im getting into some really unprojectable what ifs but i dont see anyone handing out 27 mil for Swanson. Teams dont dole out big cash for defense first players, unless if you have a comp im missing.

He was below league average bat last year too, hes getting toast, its probably not going to be THIS bad going forward but its not going to much better

Berti turning into a blessing in disguise if he continues to play good defense and can get on base in that 9 hole, especially with his speed

Great game for him so far.
