The following are gone from the Bears:

  • Thomas Brown, interim head coach
  • Chris Beatty, interim offensive coordinator, wide receivers coach
  • Eric Washington, defensive coordinator
  • Kerry Joseph, quarterbacks coach
  • Chris Morgan, offensive line coach

Too bad we don’t have a “Tunzi Thruth” for this.

I still think Thad dude was a sock puppet for IMB or someone. What a clown.

Interesting that they gave up on Chris Morgan's approach to fixing Braxton's anchor. Fourth year being a charm and all.

The Hoge and Jahns podcast was pannin the Waldron hire yet again, this time stating that everything Morgan had done in previous seasons to coach up the OL on the outside zone run game was tossed out the window by Waldron. Couple that with DAndre - I'm just gonna bump it outside - Swift and the result is the lousy run game we had. The product on the field seems to jive with five guys not being in sync or comfortable with the pass protections either. All the missed free runners up the middle for weeks on end. I guess they were trying to put a finer point on the dysfunction of Caleb's rookie year.

Johnson definitely gives us a lot to get excited about and wonder on, knowing that he is going to essentially design the scheme around Caleb.

Design an offensive around Caleb’ strengths thereby putting him in a position to succeed.  Who would have thought the Bears capable of such an approach?  Goodness this franchise,

Interesting hires from the Lions

Antwaan Randle El is the new assistant head coach

JT Barrett is the new QB coach

also JT Barrett was short against Michigan in 2016

Bland and Diggs have had All Pro years while he was DB Coach and Lewis was probably a Pro Bowl snub this year (299 yards on 57 targets 39 completions against).

They like the coaches when there are good players for that coach's unit for sure.

Nothing to do with the offseason.. but I found a YouTube page with basically all full Bears games from the 2000s with meaningless plays clipped out. Then highlights of all games back into the 60s..

I started with 98 and worked forward.. then once I’m done I’ll work back(I like misery and have tons of time to kill at work..

Anyways.. I started to get curious on which East/South/West opponents we played the most/least based on division placement since the NFL went to 4 divisions because I started thinking we never play this particular nfc team very often.

Would anyone care to guess which NFC South, East, and West teams we played the most and least since 2002??

I was only marking the years when we played a team due to division placement(like next year we play 49ers and Saints due to them being last) so I didn’t count playoffs but..

In the East

Eagles-5(02 08 09 11 17)

Redskins/Commies-5(03 05 15 23 24)

Giants-4(06 18 20 21)

Cowboys-2(12 14)

South(Counting next year)

Bucs-6(04 06 15 16 18 21)

Saints-5(03 07 13 19 25)

Panthers-3(10 12 24)

Falcons-2(09 22)

West(Counting next year)

49ers-7(04 05 14 16 17 22 25)

Rams-5(02 08 13 19 20)

Seahawks-3(07 10 11) and in Last..

Cardinals-1(23)

Cardinals were the team I realized we only played every 3 years and barely a placement game.

There has been 5 AFC crossovers now

21-Raiders

22-Texans

23-Browns

24-Patriots

25-Raiders

NFC most I'd guess Buccaneers.  Least... Seahawks?

Dang I was almost gonna say 49ers along with Buccs.

Cardinals only once as a crossover seems crazy.  Seahawks wasn't a bad guess.

Basically knew East would be jumbled because that division is always jumbled in standings.  Though only twice for Cowboys a little surprising.

A little while ago, I saw that at least some of the ‘85 Bears full games were on YouTube, and I started watching the Bears-Rams playoff game. I’ve never seen any full 85 games (as I was -3 years old at the time), but I was actually surprised how much the flow of the game resembled football today. The passing game of course is a lot jankier, but not so crazily different. NFL films highlights doesn’t do it justice. Cool stuff.

What surprised me the most was the level of hitting and you could pretty much do anything you wanted to do

I think all the 85 games are on YouTube.  In 2003 someone was selling all the games on Ebay in DVD format. That summer I watched 2 games a week in chronological order. I was 8 during the 85 season  but the only games I remembered watching live were the GB,MNF game, 49ers, Dallas, and Miami. Plus the playoffs/SB

Yes absolutely. You could crush QBs like 3 seconds after they released the ball, it was nuts. I’m glad that’s no longer the case, though I do think the current way they call RTP is a bit over the top and excessively punishes defenses.

another big shift since then: the footwork of QBs. Quarterbacks are just doing whatever they want while they drop back. It really makes timing with receiver routes very difficult, and precision passing almost impossible. Of course this changed with Bill Walsh and the West Coast offense.

My 1 year of college football, was the year before he got to IU. I did play with his older brother, Curtis, who was a starting CB and probably the guy I talked to most on the team. I remember hearing about his brother who was one of the top HS players in the Chicago area, but wasn't heavily recruited because he was a 5'10 QB. Great college player though.

Just some thoughts over the last couple days.

There's a lot of smoke that the Ian Cunningham will be the next Jaguars GM. That would get the Bears a pick at the end of the 3rd round this year and next. Pick 102 this year.

Also, seems like Dennis Allen is going to be announced in the next day or so officially as the DC. Allen was with the Saints for the last 10 years before being fired midseason. Personnel wise, he likes them big. DEs drafted to the Saints since he's been there:

Isaiah Foskey- 6-5, 270; Payton Turner 6-6, 270; Marcus Davenport 6-6, 265; Trey Hendrickson 6-4, 270; Al-Quaddin Muhammad (old friend) 6-3, 250, but this one was late 6th round.

Al Harris is quite the add. Cowboys fans loved him. He seems like a future DC to me. CB coach for Trevon Diggs' 11 INT season, Daron Bland's 9 INT season last year, and Jourdan Lewis was PFF's 9th best coverage CB in the league this year. Between his coaching and Allen's CB friendly scheme, I expect a pretty good year from Tyrique Stevenson, who is already working out at a performance enhancing training facility at Harris' ask.

Wright and Jones were left to block alone quite and bit, both to pretty good effectiveness. Lions rarely left their guys on an island. Wright performed better than Penei on islands and Jones performed better than Decker. Being able to run the ball, stay out of surefire passing scenarios, and potentially 10-15% more plays with help, there's a huge opportunity to take this OL from below average to really good, with some IOL reinforcements.
