Lynn and Gibson are fairly perfect flip candidates on one year deals.  Cards might be planning on being *real* bad next year

Apparently Gerrit Cole is opting out, which seems dumb.  Also apparently expectation is the Yankees will exercise their options to add a 5th year at 36M to his original deal and retain him, which seems even dumber.

Didn't expect that. An article I read said this would be crazy

Guaranteeing Cole another year at $36M when he will be 39 years old almost certainly won't end well.  I would love to have Cole for the next year or two, but I can't imagine having him on a 5 year deal.

Cole re-signed with the Yankees, 4-144

I guess that's technically what happened. In practice he just reversed his original opt out decision and kept the contract he was already on.

Singer's tough.  On the one hand yet another low velo guy with less swing and miss than we'd like.  On the other he is good and I'm not the most confident we end up with two starters better than him?

I feel like I'd potentially have a much different opinion if this rumor popped up in January, but right now I'd pass.

Still don't really get it for KC, but whatever I guess.

They have some rotation depth and now they don't have to rely on Massey and Loftin at 2B (or they move India to 3B or the OF). And they add Joey Weimer, who was an interesting prospect pretty recently. I think the Reds make out better here but I can see why the Royals were into it.

I just don't think India is particularly good and now he isn't in GABP for half his games.

The deferrals are 100% going to be a big topic during the collective bargaining agreement.

I think the fans are the only ones with a problem with them.  The players are clearly agreeing to these deals when they don't have to.
