The Jets gave Hasson Reddick the right to talk to teams regarding a trade. Should the Bears be looking to put themselves over the top with him on the opposite side of Sweat?

Does Detroit go after Reddick?

They should certainly put in a call, but not offer anything serious.

Apparently there is a trade condition from the original deal that the Jets conditional pick to Eagles increases if they trade him to an NFC team.  So I'd think he goes AFC if they can find even a decent offer.

Are Myles Garrett and Maxx Crosby available? Those are two guys I'd be interested in.

Doubt Garret is at all. I guess I could see Crosby made available, but I doubt for a price that makes sense.

I don't know what the Browns are thinking they can do, but they should give up their petty hopes for however long this whole 'DeShaun Watson' thing continues and trade to us

Yeah it moved from Bears -2.5 to Jags -1.5 a four point move. It crossed thru 0 which isn't as significant as say moving from Bears -6.5 to Bears -2.5 but still such a huge move.  Vegas got crushed this week otherwise as all favorites went 11-3 against the spread. Only loses were the Jags, Titans and Eagles (who won but did not cover)

It was a super chalky week.  I had a clean sheet in the office pool and won by one game.

Eh Garret is probably good enough to keep around for v 2.0 after they figure out what to do with Watson

Edit - and while I'm generally a fan of what Browns have done to manage their cap it isn't the most blow up friendly.  They're kind of committed to seeing out most contracts, but especially if they think they are gonna move on from Watson (assuming they can't void his guarantees for some kind of cause).

I wouldn't be surprised if we do something in a mid-season trade, Poles has done it two years in a row.

But I'm not interested in a Crosby/Maxx level deal.  Obviously they are insanely good players, but the cost would be tremendous.

I do not want this to turn into some tank-and-spank success-cycle BS.  We have a 22-year-old franchise QB in place.  Our window can be the next 15 years.   Keep playing the value game.  It's a meat-grinder league, you're always going to have more holes opening up than you think, keep your draft picks and keep bringing in more guys.

I agree. Time is not right to go get Crosby/Parsons. I rather address the OL.

I still do not understand that at all.  Why on earth was the line not like Bears -5 to begin with, and why did it not move toward the Bears?

What on earth were people seeing that made them think that?  The best answer I could get out of anybody was "well, the Jags are too good to be 1-5" which is terrible reasoning.

Only thing I can think of is there was a LOT of weight put on common opponents?  Jags beat the Colts and lost to the Texans on a TD with 18 seconds left and that made people think they were better? Plus Bears injuries to Stevenson and Brisker.

What about Wyatt Teller?

I'd like Teller a lot. He does have 2 more years on his deal and some void year crap that IDK how to account for. But on the right side of 30 for the next month still. 21.9M cap hit for next year and currently on IR with a knee injury. So the cost wouldn't be very much (Day 3 pick). The FA guard class isn't great after Trey Smith (top 5 OG in the league) and maybe, Aaron Banks from SF. Lot of pressure to get one of those guys with 31 other teams competing. He'd be the proverbial "bird in the hand".

FWIW too, he plays RG so you wouldn't have to move Jenkins again like they did for Nate Davis. And he's been a pro bowl level player when healthy. He does come with injury risk as he only has two 17 game seasons in his career.

This is now a Bears power ranking week 7 thread.

Sagarin ratings updated: http://sagarin.com/sports/nflsend.htm

Bears 10th, 29th rated schedule (which tracks, they've played 3 of the 5 worst teams in football).

Teams above the Bears: Vikings, Lions, Packers, 49ers, Chiefs, Bills, Ravens, Texans, Steelers.

The NFC North has lapped the NFL field in terms of team quality.

I'm getting a manifesto vibe off of this web page, and I like it.

I'm not a NFL gambler, do any of you use these models to bet?

A bye week is as good a time as any to list what far too early draft mocks have the Bears doing with their first round pick

1) Walter Football has the Bears taking Safety Malaki Starks saying

"Kevin Byard is just a temporary solution next to Jaquan Brisker at safety.

A quarterback in high school, Malaki Starks is a star in the making, according to Charlie Campbell’s sources."

2) CBS has the Bears taking Edge Mykel Williams saying

"Williams is too freakish for the Bears to pass here, and he'd be a nice building block opposite the similarly long and athletic Montez Sweat on an ascending Chicago defensive line."

3) Tankathon also has the Bears taking Edge Mykel Williams

4) Drafttek has the Bears taking DL Kenneth Grant

5) The Draft Network has the Bears taking RB Omarion Hampton saying

"The Bears went passing-game-heavy last offseason by drafting Caleb Williams and Rome Odunze and signing Keenan Allen. Now, they provide Williams some balance and draft him a running back. Omarion Hampton appears to be a back who can create for himself and be a true threat to create explosive plays out of the backfield. The addition of Hampton would make the Bears' offense even more dangerous."

6) Draft Countdown has the Bears taking Edge Mykel Williams

7) PFF has the Bears taking EDGE James Pearce JR. saying

"The Bears defense is one of the better units in the NFL, and their short-term outlook on that side of the ball is strong. However, they could still use another legitimate pass-rush threat opposite Montez Sweat. Pearce may be light at 6-foot-5, 240 pounds, but he generated an impressive 21.9% pass-rush win rate and earned a 91.9 pass-rush grade in 2023."

Outside of the RB, all of them are perfectly defensible. Just about every mock I've seen that has a 2nd round has the Bears using Carolina's 2nd for an interior lineman.

Jordan Reid from espn has them taking Jonah Savaiinaea OL from Arizona

For me it basically has to be Edge or OL unless it's a safety that's just way ahead of the options at the other positions. Starks is pretty much the only one I find that fits that criteria and even then I'm not 100% behind it depending on who slips.

I suspect the 2025 Bears will be in the position of basically being able to draft BPA, with some exceptions (Corner is probably not as needed, you should never draft a RB or LB in the first round, don't need a QB, but everything else would work).

Yeah, I don't want to use the draft to bandaid whatever perceived hole on the roster we're Nagying about.  That's what FA is for.

In the draft, I want to be thinking long-term and be proactive. I want to be one of those obnoxious teams where you think "OK, their good player at that one position finally moved on" only to have them have a second-round pick from two years ago waiting in the wings to take over and be a star right away.

So yeah, if there's an OL or an edge early that they like, go for it.  But I'd be just as open to a safety, or a LB (Edmunds will be 30-year-old UFA in two years).  We've been making plenty of use for two TEs this year and could easily use another one.   I've gotten accustomed to a 3 WR lifestyle and I don't want to go back when Keenan Allen retires or if DJ Moore follows the A-Rob aging curve, I would have zero problem with a first- or second-round WR.

And god help me, I wouldn't ever use a first on the position, but if there was an RB you really liked in the second, I wouldn't yell at them over it.

We've got a franchise QB that could settle the position and keep us in contention for the next 15 years, we can keep playing the long game and accumulating value.
