Paredes with a great play at 3rd.

Really nice, the Cardinals, Pirates and Brewers are annoying enough but, these Reds are collection of huge horsefeatherss.

I wonder how much money Nick Martinez made himself this year.  His numbers are all sparkling, but without gaudy GB or K numbers I assume it's still 2-3 years at $15Mish per?

I hate this guy's pre-pitch routine.

Our cats do that before they're about to lay down, WTF is this guy doing?

So far, laying down the Cubs lineup.

To be fair, the wind is blowing in like 90 mph (what's new?)

Happ's ball would have been gone on another day, probably DeLaCruz' as well.  Add Bellinger' to that list.

I know it’s not news to anyone here, but Taillon has been really good for going on a year and a half now.

Cubs player being good after being bad? You'd be surprised how much that is, in fact, news around here.

A 1 hour 50 minute game..lol

These guys wanna end the season already

1:49 I think, but yeah I had no idea this game was already over.  Had to run an errand and turned on 670 to see how the game was going and Pat said the Reds were down to their last out lol

2nd consecutive winning season and 8th in the last 10 seasons.  This season sucks but at least that's an accomplishment.  Win one of the last 2 games to equal last year's record, a team that finished 1 game out of the playoffs.

Edit: 1:48 apparently.  Shortest game in the majors this year from any team by 1 minute

$11.5m next year, $12m the year after that.

I just don't see why people want to trade that away...I get that we need more thump in the order and a lot of spots are blocked but unless you can get 4-5 win value for him I don't know if that's the first place I'd look to upgrade.

Every game is going to be a quick one. These guys want to go home.

Is it that people want to, or that its one of the few options to find more thump?

The outfield is set. The infield is pretty much set with Dansby clearly not going anywhere and Busch highly unlikely to be moved. Catcher isn't a typical place to find thump. So the options are really just 3. DH, 2B, and 3B. And with Shaw in AAA, Hoerner becomes a natural what if.

It's very dumb.  On top of it you're probably not even improving the offense that much if you trade him.  Of guys with at least 400 at bats this year listed as being primary 2B, Hoerner is 10th on offense.  BUT, five of the guys ahead of him are only ahead by a little bit (six points of wRC+ separate Nico at #10 and Brendan Donavan at #5).

The top 4 are Ketel Marte, Jordan Westburg, Jose Altuve and Brandon Lowe.  Lowe, is probably pretty available but he's A) made of glass and B) a worse player than Hoerner on the whole even when he's on the field.

The Cubs traded for Paredes (or, perhaps more importantly, they traded away Morel) on July 28th. Since then, they are:

  • 2nd in offensive fWAR
  • 3rd in OBP
  • 5th in slugging
  • 3rd in wOBA
  • 4th in wRC
  • 2nd in baserunning
  • 2nd in defense

24th in pitcher fWAR during that stretch.

Sounds like a Cub target.

If Bellinger opts out the Cubs don’t have to move anyone to add a bat. And even if he doesn’t, they can move 9 guys around in 8 positions and add a bat. Catcher would be Amaya and whoever they add. If they can add  a catcher with pop, that can also help. But I would be fine with signing someone like Kelly to share the catching with Amaya.

As for young guys ready to move up, maybe they go in a trade for that bat or they go for the best pitcher they can get in a trade.

The ideal off season for me would be adding one of Soto, Vlad or Tucker. Add a pitcher like Burnes, Snell, Fried, Flaherty, Gilbert or any of the other Seattle starters, or similar And trade for a catcher with pop or just sign someone like Kelly. Add a decent pen arm or two and call it an off season.

They wont have the money for all high end salaries, so if they did bring in one of the bats I am hoping for(and sign them long term) they might have to trade for a young arm and forget about the guys like Burnes. But that still leaves guys like Keller, Cabrera, several Seattle pitchers and even Crochett. I am sure there are a few more.

Dansby is the new Heyward.  $40 million down and $138 million to go.
