Everyone is so scared of a guy throwing 20 extra pitches that we can't have anything fun anymore.

It all because of this analytics horsefeathers. I'm not even an anti data guy. There is a lot of value to it. But its really testing my patience.

Nice way to make up for 2 losses, a blowout and a combined no hitter...

Probably won't make the playoffs but games like this are fun to watch in September.

Exactly. All types of stressors for pitchers that cause injury and they happen all the time. So, avoiding a meaningless stresser for the Cubs best pitcher is a good thing.

First Cubs no hitter at WF since 1972. Was not expecting that one.

Milt Pappas got screwed out of perfect game by a butchered strike 3 on what should've been the last out.

Prime example for the need of  A.I. strikezone lol

Nice of the cubs to pile a bunch of these lopsided wins in before the end of a (likely) lost season so us hopelessly optimistic have some better statistics to point to this offseason…

It's correct logic. Pitchers are babied far too much now a days. Not a single one of these guys was overused this season and they still got hurt. That's his argument.

Injuries will always happen to pitchers. The human arm isnt supposed to be able to throw 95 mph. It's why pitching depth is so important. Shota throwing an extra 25-30 pitches isnt going to hurt him as he will inevitably get hurt as is the nature of pitchers.

By the way, what the hell is going on with Cubs broadcasters?  No Boog on TV.  No Pat on the radio.  It almost seems to be a rarity when both the TV and radio broadcast crews are together at the same time.

I 100% disagree. Shota will inevitably get hurt. I dont know if its next year or the year after but you cant predict pitching injuries. Protecting their arms doesnt do anything. Let the guy go for his once in a lifetime opportunity,

Can you imagine the publicity of shota no hitter back in Japan while Jeb is there?

‘Oh wow, the cubs won 12-0, Dansby and PCA were a triple short of the cycle, shota looked dominant and to top it all off they actually no hit the pirates!’

’man that sounds awesome, I assume the game thread is actually enjoying it and pretty happy?’

They are completely unpredictable. You cant argue that. There is no reason to protect a pitcher. An arm only has so many bullets before it falls off and you use it as much as you can until it falls off then dump the guy and next man up. There is no such thing as a pitching prospect and there is no such thing as a long term pitcher outside of the rare outlier.

Someone let Alec mills throw a no-no in 2020 for the cubs. Might be why he's selling real estate now instead of pitching

Yeah, Mills and Imanaga are the same- lol

Might be my last game at Wrigley this year. 2nd no hitter I’ve witnessed. Last one was at Miller Park when Big Z no hit the Astros!

There's a lot of stuff going on with pitching injuries. As many injuries as ever, if not more, even with the new protocols. No doubt about that.

What managers can do is avoid meaningless stress. Maxing Imanaga out with an unprecedented personal pitch count for a potential no hitter is a very easy stressor to avoid.

I mean, let’s just pretend that’s true. It’s not, but let’s pretend it is. If that’s the case, why waste whatever bullets he has there? Most people around here are climbing over each other to call this a completely lost and worthless season, as if there’s no enjoyment to be had in anything short of an extended playoff run. If that’s the case, then shut him down, right? Certainly don’t go for a career high in pitches for this terrible team.

Or are we suddenly doing a 180 on this because shota could (maybe!) join such hallowed grounds that Alec mills was the last guy to do it all of three years ago?
