Trading Steele now would pretty much mean they're giving up on 2025 too, and I just don't see them doing that unless the return brings from the trading team two of their top 5 prospects.

Cubs aren't far off from actually  competing next year IF hoyer can make good moves, they have Steele and Imanaga with a couple of good young arms for the rotation and bullpen.

They just need to add another reliable SP, a closer, and add a couple of solid bats to the lineup.

Don't have a problem with your post, but with your "team needs" that is listed at the bottom of your post, the team is going to have to make trades with the current major league roster. Don't think all will be done via free agency. With that being said, Jed is going to have to make some tough decisions. Agree with the closer part because I believe that is what Counsell will demand over the offseason.

Busch has turned into a fine fielder

He has looked really good after a few hiccups early on.  I suspect he could have also played a better third base than Morel, if that was the direction the Cubs had decided to go.

Heart of the order fails in a prime scoring opportunity again.

note I just put the game on for the first time all night so if theyve been getting it done the rest of the game, disregard lol

Since when did Amaya become a hitter? Damn. 😄

Also, WTF PCA?

Since they got rid of his leg kick

Here comes Neris.

Can anyone remind me why he got the closer job back? Really haven’t been paying much attention sadly

Because they highly value experience.

Nice to get a W. The pitching continues to roll.

There wasn't really an option with the doubleheader before the break but man Assad could have used a rehab start or two.

Bullpen is rolling.  Definitely need to move Leiter and Neris in what is very much a seller's market.

Has anyone else noticed that Amaya is 10 for his last 18 (and 8 for his last 11) with 4 walks, 2 XBH, 3 RBI and only 2 K?

I’m sure it’s been discussed here. Just a blip or is it too soon to write off his entire career?

edit: on the flip side, PCA is 0-14 since his random 2 HR game that briefly brought his average over .200

Trade for a bat. Pitching is doing just fine. Merryweather is back now too 🙂

They are not buying this deadline. At best, if you believe this team can still compete for the WC, they won’t trade guys. This is the team if they are going to go for it. Of course, I’m not sure how good an idea it is not to sell at least a few pieces and realize this is not the year.

Jed technically did not say they aren't going to be buyers. He said they aren't going to buy rentals. However, this team is never going to buy with Jed pulling the strings. This man just said he is happy with where the organization is. Jed... the Cubs you have led for 4 years have yet to make the playoffs and are currently the 4th worst team in the NL on a tax strapped payroll. How can you possibly be happy with that?

Correct. He did say that. But if they did get someone behind this year they would have to pay premium to beat teams that are buying for future years AND this year. Knowing Jed’s history there is  I reason to believe he will be the most aggressive front office for a trade like that. And typically those guys cost money too. And I am pretty sure they aren’t going to go over the LT this year. So, I guess there might be a “perfect fit” for him to be aggressive on. But highly unlikely.
