Notes from Mark O'Neal:

-Wood will be reevaluated this weekend when they get back to Chicago and will have more tests to make sure its improving.

-They've talked to Z about a few things that he may be doing wrong that may be aggrevating his elbow. He played toss today and it went well.

-Medically speaking, Borowski is fine. It's up to Jim and Dusty when to bring him back. He's close.

-Todd's feeling very good. He's real close, as well.

-Dempster is fine.

I was in class for Todd's final 3 ABs, but suffice it to say they went over as well as his first 12 in Salt Lake City. He went 0 for 4 in game 2 with a K and an RBI. He's up to a whopping 0 for 15 on rehab, 3 Ks, 5 GIDPs, 1 R and 2 RBI. Edited by CaliforniaRaisin

Just 4? It seemed like at least 5 or 6 DPs.

Not a great time for his plate discipline to go out the window and for him to start sucking.

Yeah, it's 5 GIDPs. I edited.

Everything went well in Carlos' side session and he's scheduled to pitch Saturday. He was pain-free but Maddux will take his spot on Friday, giving him an extra day of rest.

Michael Barrett didn't catch the bottom of the ninth today because of stiffness in his throwing shoulder.

The problem apparently has been bothering him for a while. He'll be examined tomorrow. If he's going to miss some time, Henry Blanco would have a little value in NL-only leagues.

Throw him on the pile...

Everyone's just O.K. with this? Nobody thinks throwing Z so soon after he was pulled with elbow pain might worsen his problem?

It was something that came up quickly and he never felt any "pain," so it's quite possible that their conclusion that it was caused by his swinging is correct. To fix that, he won't be taking batting practice anymore. His side-session went just fine and pitching on 6 days of rest should be okay for him. There's always a chance that it could hurt, but I don't see this as much of a huge risk.

So is Walker going to be returning this weekend?

Walker isn't playing for Iowa tonight, so I suspect he's back in Chicago.

Update on Barrett:

Paul Sullivan"]CHICAGO - (KRT) - An MRI on Michael Barrett's right shoulder Thursday revealed mild inflammation, but he should be available for this weekend's series against the White Sox.

"We'll see how he is when he comes in (Friday) morning," trainer Mark O'Neal said. "But we feel confident he'll be able to play."

O'Neal said the inflammation showed up in an area in the shoulder where a foul tip hit Barrett a week or so ago. He took himself out of Wednesday's game in Pittsburgh in the ninth inning after doubling in the top half.

In his best defensive season to date, Barrett has a 42.3 percent success rate on throwing out runners, best among National League catchers. The Cubs may decide to give him another day or two of rest to help alleviate any soreness in the shoulder.

Also according to the article, the decision on Borowski has not been made yet and Remmy's status is "unknown."

I must have missed something. What's wrong with Remmy?

There hasn't been any mention of him. He had a sore neck, I believe, a couple of weeks ago and that kept him out of a couple of games, but I'm not sure if that's related to what's going on now.

The latest on Barrett:

Paul Sullivan"]Michael Barrett was relieved his MRI showed only minor shoulder inflammation. He sat out Friday but insists he will play Saturday if manager Dusty Baker needs him.

"I'm going to take it easy (Friday) and give it a break," Barrett said. "More than anything, it's probably one of those things from throwing too much or from the impact of a foul ball. It's the first time I've gone through this. I'm counting my blessings and glad I'm only going to miss 2-3 days."
