Fun, earlier than I expected but fun.  Curious how they're managing this roster-wise, probably a Brewer DFA?

Hendricks IL?

Bigge needs a 40 man spot, so unless Hendricks jumps straight to the 60 day IL that wouldn't be enough.

I kinda wonder if this is the moment they'll give up the ghost and DFA Davis.

At this point, I don't think anyone can be too upset if/when the Cubs go that direction.  At the same time though, Brewer is a complete nothing whose performance can easily be replaced by nearly anyone on the AAA roster or any recent DFA pitcher.  There is no reason whatsoever to hang onto him.

Merryweather, Kilian, and Alzolay are all on the 60 day too, so Brewer's time can still be fairly short.  But if Davis is a long shot to stay rostered, they might prefer pulling that trigger now.  It keeps an arm on the 40 man longer, and exposes Davis at a time he's more likely to slide through and be successfully outrighted if both parties want that.

They said Almonte was done for the year, so maybe they put him on the 60-Day?

He is on it already. Can’t they put Davis in the 60 day IL? If not, I would guess, for now, Brewer dfa. But when Merryweather and maybe Alzolay and Killian come back some moves need to be made.

Minor leaguers can’t be placed on the 60 day IL. They would have to call him up in order to place him there.

I wonder if the Bigge move is a sign they're officially throwing up the white flag on 2024, because otherwise it's probably not ideal from a 40 man standpoint.

The 40 man is not packed to the gills, but there are several guys who aren't going to be long term fixtures on the roster who you do hold onto for a bit if you're trying to win.  For example David Bote as a short side platoon 3B, or Kyle Hendricks as emergency SP depth.

If you're trying to win still though, Jorge Lopez and Colten Brewer are the two truly painless cuts you can make.  Davis too I guess though I don't love that from an off-field standpoint.

So by calling up Bigge now you're using up one of your 2-3 "free" moves, with Merryweather and Alzolay also due back by the end of the month requiring two more.  It doesn't lock you out of anything per se, but I do think calling up Bigge and making the 40 man move instead of just calling up Palencia likely says something about direction.

It might also be time to give up on Mervis.

I mean, they can dfa wisdom too. He is a guy who supposed to hit lefties and not even doing that. Plus, does it really matter if he isn’t in the team?

Smart move by Brewer, keeps getting a mlb check instead of being dfa'd.

I actually thought the exact same thing.
