As far as position players goes, who are we realistically looking at in both Iowa and Tennessee to be an everyday starter for them going forward..

PCA, Caissie, Shaw, Alcantara, Ballesteros

James Triantos.

Throw Triantos in the mix.  And obviously some (most) of these guys won’t pan out.

sometimes there comes a point in a baseball season where the team you root for is so infuriating, so disappointing, you begin to hate them. I'm not quite there yet. But the hate is rising.

This team is what it is. A meddling .500 team that should not be a part of the playoff discussion. IDC if the are still holding a WC spot because that will be gone soon enough. I just don't think it is appropriate to talk playoffs with this team. He'll, it's going to be a battle to stay out of last place.

Like bigslick, my dislike for this team quickly rising.

I strongly suspect that the bullpen coaches and conditioners have something to do with how nobody can get clean innings these days

Well Hodge and Little walked lots of guys in the minors.

For all the players who have struggled this year I blame the players themselves first and foremost.  Guys like Little and Hodge are who they are though.

They’ll stay this way for years unless Shaw Horton and Cassie can be our next Brizzo and our next Lester/Arrietta and or Jed stops buying Nissans and Dodge Charger free agents and start purchasing a Mercedes or Rolls Royce, like Reinsdorf’s Whitesox.

Last night was the Cubbie special. Game is tied in the in the middle innings, offense or starting rotation finds a way to keep the game competitive (never in unison), pen immediately coughs up the lead and can’t seem to hold one, bats go silent in the waning innings and we have our 2024 Chicago Cubs.

At this point there’s no reason to consider being buyers until the bats and pen can make big strides. The rotation is expectedly regressing to their mean.

Until Jed stops assembling a Jerry Reinsdorf esque roster full of guys ranked in the low to mid 80’s on the Show expect mediocrity.

Imagine giving $177 million to an extreme glove-first infielder.

Well we did the extreme glove first outfielder already, had to mix it up

I'm a tad worried about Assad.  The runs the last couple starts don't concern me, it's simple regression after he spent the better part of two years with ludicrously high strand rates.

The velo though appears to really be dipping.  A lot of 90s and 91s last night and even a few stray 89s.  And I don't think they're misclassified cutters either as the top end velo hasn't been there.

I wonder if he gets the bump from the rotation for Wicks.  Not as a punishment or a demotion but as a breather.  It also doesn't hurt that he has shown he can excel out of the pen.

I’m worried about most of the roster who are new to the Cubs because a lot of solid early season performances have given way to a major drop off, which suggests the team just happened to have a collective streak but really wasn’t good to begin with.
