Kansas was a 6 seed in the conference tournament for the first time since Roy Williams first year in 1989. And they lost to Cincinnati. Strange days indeed.

Well my college basketball season is over Wednesday of conference tournament week which is weird as hell.  Some Michigan/DePaul combined stats:

-11-53 overall record

-3-39 conference record

-1-30 record since January 16th

-28 of the 30 losses were by 8+ points (ironically since DePaul was inarguably worse both the other losses were 1 point DePaul losses)

Good riddance to the 2023-2024 college basketball season

Will Juwan be back?

Had I known that the Joey Meyer/Tommy Kleinschmidt days would be the peak of DePaul basketball, I would have attended more games while I was there

For several weeks it was being reported that our AD was behind Juwan and there was no discussion about him being let go.  Juwan himself has been talking like he knows he's coming back.  But this week a report came out that there was a lot of pressure behind the scenes for the AD (Warde) to get rid of him and that Warde wasn't willing to fight for him, though his preference would still be to keep him.  So who knows.

I feel like for off the court issues alone he should be canned.  But when you consider how far the program has fallen in 3 years - based on many metrics this is the worst Michigan basketball team of all time, or at the very least since the mid-60s - he's gotta go.

In other coaching news, rumors are Chris Holtmann is likely to become the DePaul coach. I know that might be the highest profile hire DePaul can get but funny to hire a coach who was fired midseason only to see his former team immediately go 6-1 and put themselves on the bubble.

That seems like a good get for DePaul, in that he is probably the best of their bad options.

lmao this is the guy who got into a fight with Juwan Howard this year. Was credited as a big reason Michigan was able to develop so many NBA players over the last 10+ years. Juwan and Warde drove him out of the program and he went to the Illini. You’re welcome

Spartans have to start flopping, sure is working for Jones.  Edey commits an offensive foul with his elbows nearly every time he has the the ball.  And it's not because he's bigger or stronger than everyone, he's using the elbows to make room.

Thank God. I know everyone hates him and I don’t blame them. I think he clearly has issues that he needs to deal with but also believe deep down he’s a good guy. Just not the coach for Michigan.

Very interested to see how much stature the Michigan job has right now. Not too far removed from perennial Big Ten powerhouse but also glaring issues with admissions and NIL in this new era of college basketball. Given how Michigan is probably going to need about 10 new players this offseason (virtually every meaningful player is graduating or rumored to be entering the portal and only one commit of note who will probably decommit now), it’s not going to be a 1 year rebuild. Maybe 2 years with the right person.

Mississippi St is blowing the doors off #5 Tennessee right now.

When can I bet on Tennessee underperforming their seed? Never trust Rick Barnes in the tournament.

I'm really going to miss this after this year.

After yesterday's games, Illinois probably locks a 3 seed with a win today. #5 Tennessee,  #6 Arizona, #8 Creighton, #9 Kentucky and #11 Duke all went down early in their conference tournaments.

And A&M beat Kentucky last night. The arena can probably tell half the workers they don’t need to come in today now that those two fan bases have headed back to their respective trailer parks.

It'll be interesting to see how truly good Loyer and Smith are next season, so much of their offense is generated because of Edey' presence.  Nevertheless, even with a possibly hobbled Smith, I think Purdue handles Wisconsin with relative ease today.  Would love to see Wisconsin victory coupled with an Illini win vs. Nebraska, the Illini are a bad match-up for Wisconsin.  Most likely its going to be Purdue-Illinois for the title and Purdue will probably, unfortunately win.

Honestly, I don't get why teams let Edey get into their heads, you could see it yesterday in Walker, dear-in-the headlights, I'd take it to Edey.  So what if he blocks your shot, if you keep going after him, you'll draw fouls - I think.

Illini with their usual tournament poor play garbage, this game is over.  Domask couldn't hit water if he fell out a boat.

How is this holding up?

I didn't watch Illinois v. Nebraska, but I did see Tominaga went 2 for 9 on 3-point shots. Please tell me it was as cringe as I assume. He's the definition of a chucker, and I hate how much success he has hitting contested shots.

I hope the Illini crush Wisconsin tomorrow. Lots of Badger fans that I know who are doing a lot of talking right now.
