This Illini team is big, smallest player of their starting 5 is 6-6, the height and physicality showed last night and against Rutgers.  Loved what Domask did last night, he did what Pickett did to the Illini three times last season.

That was a really fun game to watch.  Refs mostly stayed out of the way and both teams made a lot of really good plays.  I'll be interested to see if Domask can continue to be productive with his old man game in conference play.

Worked for Pickett last year.

Well the Michigan basketball season has been boring thus far but apparently a bunch of insiders are alluding to a rumor that Juwan Howard assaulted his strength and conditioning coach and is going to be fired.  So that’s fun

I gave him too many chances.  I do think he is a good person in many ways, but obviously he has a fatal flaw that is going to be his downfall.  I initially wanted him fired after the Wisconsin incident but went along with the suspension and opportunity to have another chance.  But even though this might be the first documented assault since then, he has gotten in shouting matches several times the last couple of years and a couple of weeks ago got ejected from a game in the Bahamas that he wasn't even technically coaching (was still recovering from his heart surgery)

Ah, I didn’t know about the heart thing. I was confused about who was coaching today. I missed the first half (should’ve missed both) so I didn’t hear anything about why he was just sitting there while the crypt keeper was shown subbing guys in.

Conflicting rumors are coming in suggesting now it wasn’t a physical altercation but a very heated verbal one related to his son Jace being late for his workout session and the s&c coach confronting him which caused Juwan to lose it.

Might have jumped the gun on the assault thing but wouldn’t be surprised if this ends Howard’s tenure. We’ll see

uhh, well horsefeathers

not sure why it’s not embedding but Shannon Jr is suspended after being charged with rape

Well, it's a weird day to be an Illini fan. They will play FDU tonight without Shannon. Before the game, at 6pm, AD Josh Whitman will address the Shannon situation.

What I know for sure thus far:
- It happened in September, while Illinois was at Kansas for football
- Shannon has been cooperating with the investigation since it started in September
- Charges were formally brought by the Kansas assistant DA on Thursday, which by U of I policy triggered the automatic suspension. Shannon went to Lawrence for arraignment immediately upon the charges being filed.
- He is maintaining his innocence and wants to take it to trial to prove innocence rather than try to set up a plea deal.
- Not sure how long he'll be suspended for, as I imagine this won't go to trial quickly. There are potential avenues to him playing again until the trial takes place, but it's up to Whitman and the college at this point.

I strongly suspect that if he could "prove innocence", he wouldn't have been charged.

(That doesn't mean he's guilty or that he'll be found guilty. But if he had a rock-solid alibi or something it's likely that the charges wouldn't have been brought against him.)

I hope for the sake of all involved that it's not true but if he is guilty, yikes.  It does seem convenient that this has suddenly popped up after his draft stock has risen significantly at the start of this season.  I'm firmly in the believe women camp, but the timing is suspicious to me.

If the information I heard about the situation is true, everyone at Illinois is surprised the DA brought charges, as the incident seemed pretty BS from the get go. Again, only hearing one side of the situation of course, but both Whitman and Underwood seemed to be behind Shannon's version of events, but we'll see what Whitman says tonight.

He's been cooperating with the investigation since September, so it isn't new.

My read from the Illinois basketball community is that they’re in complete shock.

They weren’t expecting charges.  Shannon isn’t the kid you worry about getting into this kind of trouble in the first place.

For those interested, here is the Whitman press conference regarding Shannon:

TLDW:

-University has a no tolerance policy on arrests of this nature, thus the suspension.

- An ethics Panel will convene within 48 hours to determine course forward based on facts available.  If they list the suspension it'll stay that way until a legal resolution is reached. If they uphold the suspension,  it'll remain that way until a legal resolution is reached.

- Shannon's first day in court will be Jan 18.

- There was no written report from the police or DA until this week. All communication prior to that has been verbal with authorities and involved persons.

It certainly appears there is a lot of smoke indicating that the serious charges aren't substantiated and that there may be discussions taking place to get the charges dropped or substantially altered to reflect what actually happened.

If the rumored situation is true, then the DA bringing rape charges is an absolute joke. With that said, I find it highly suspicious that such a low followed twitter user would have this information unless they knew someone directly involved. I only mention it because it has picked up some traction in the Illinois community.

I think it's picked up traction because there are too many people that are wishcasting this into their favorite team's best player playing again
