I don’t think the MLBPA thinks highly of players taking less money to go to a winner

But it isn’t their decision to make. That is the point. Whatever drives the player to a team is his business. Money, want to be on a good team, want to play in a certain city or region of the county. It is the players choice and no one should be critical of whatever is most important to player. Not even the MLBPA.

Rcal have you been involved with a union work environment?

Back in 1995, players who went against the union philosophy and crossed the picket line were forever shunned from sharing in $ from mlb licensed products.

Unions can be extremely strong and forceful.

Bob Nightengale says Willy Adames is in fact available post Burnes trade.  That would potentially be a twofer because it'd make the Brewers worse and depending on where he went take another Chapman suitor off the board.

Could make Brewers more of a Chapman suitor, or Montgomery etc.  They saved money dealing Burnes.  They saved money dumping Woodruff and then signed Hoskins.

No team in the Central wants to win this year, maybe the Reds by default.

Pirates signed Aroldis Chapman.

Brewers moving laterally takent-wise just to get older and add a 9 figure contract to their books?

Ex-cub Patrick Mahomes Sr. arrested for DWI. This is his 11th incident with Texas police., including multiple DWI's.

I enjoy spirits, but I use designated drivers. It's a shame when parents embarrass their children publicly

Well they save 15m on Burnes, 11m on Woodruff, and would save 12m on Adames.  That's 38m, and Hoskins costs 17m AAV.  They have 21m to spend on someone.  Might not be 1 of the Boras 4 but they might still spend most of that.

Didn’t realize we had any affiliation with that embarrassment of a family.

I'm guessing they will sign guys they feel they can flip at the deadline moreso than a long term deal for a Boras client.

I'm more curious than anything... How many days do the Cubs actually spend in Chicago vs on the road?

They probably spend a few days more at home than on the road with off days and when they play the White Sox.

Wonder of the Dodgers are bringing back Brasier.  He was a reverse split guy after they brought him on and he added the cutter.

This post is not about the Cubs but this seems to be the only really active thread about the offseason. I just read the Athletic article on the Dodgers getting Ohtani. Last year they won 100 games. So this offseason was not about winning the regular season. But I was gobsmacked at just how good their offseason is/was

SP

Ohtani (DH this year)

Yamamoto

Glasnow (with extension)

RF

Tescor Hernandez (lets Betts move to 2b)

CF

Manuel Margot

RP

James Paxton (could also start)

Resign Joe Kelly

I know winning the offseason doesn't matter, but got damn that is one helluva offseason with the talent they already have.

The mistake a lot of people make is adding all that talent to their 100 wins from last year.  But they were very much not a 100 win team on November 1st.  Hell they weren't really a 100 win team on October 1st, it wasn't that shocking when they got bodied by the Dbacks in the playoffs

Their rotation was Bobby Miller, a rehabbing Walker Buehler, and a bunch of kids.  Their outfield was James Outman, Chris Taylor, and probably Michael Busch.  With Betts/Freeman/Smith and an army of talented kids they certainly weren't a bad team, but their win projection certainly started with an 8 instead of a 9 or a 1.
