I guess "coasted" would be a better description.  It didn't have the look of a typical play where a fielder loses the ball in the lights.

According to Seiya, he saw it until the very last second.

He is visibly upset in the post game interview. It was hard to watch.

Honestly looked like he was ready to cry on the field.

I don't have anything bad to say about him. It just sucks on so many levels though.

I do really feel for Seiya.  I'm upset that the Cubs lost the game, but now he is the scapegoat if they miss the playoffs and that will follow him for the rest of his Cubs career.  That isn't fair to him, but it won't be forgotten.

This is what happens when you use bubble gum and duct tape to assemble and keep together a bullpen.

This team has had way too many infuriatingly stupid one and two run losses this season. I don't know if it's bad management, bad roster construction, or something else.

Hopefully Hoyer has learned his lesson. This scrapheap bullpen construction got lucky results for a few seasons. It not an ideal way to build a bullpen. And with how important bullpens are you can't just Hope horsefeathers sticks against the wall. He better sign some high end bullpen arms this offseason. Starting with a legitimate closer.

Lmao, was just pointed out on Twitter that Brant Brown is the Marlins hitting coach. Gotta be a weird thing checking your phone and finding all the references to his error, but this time it benefits his team

He’s been pretty bad at base stealing and running so far

And by "pretty bad", you mean about as bad as a baserunner can possibly be. Like, it's extremely difficult to have as big a negative impact as he has in his limited time on the bases.

Yeah, he’s been very very bad. He’s definitely trying to do too much. But I’m not worried about that part of his game long term.

It took a fluke play for the Braves to squeak by the Cubs at home. The Cubs still have one of 800 playoff spots. Worse places to be!

They don’t control their destiny for those 800 playoff spots though and their options for getting in got a lot narrower with the DBacks win.

I’m not either but for this season, no more. The only time I want to see PCA is as a defensive replacement in the bottom of the 9th

That really sucks. But also selfishly I hope he can put it behind him quickly. Gotta turn the page and continue being the all star caliber player the last 2+ months

I wonder if the whole PCA situation has caused any friction between Hoyer and Ross.  I could absolutely see Ross feeling like he had a guy forced on him and had to play him in certain situations that have backfired.

Any truth to the rumor Leiter fell down the Springfield Mystery Spot?

I don’t understand. He’s not hurt enough to put on the IL, but they want him to pitch under no circumstances even in situations where you are forced to put Palencia or Wesneski into a critical spot of a game?

Are they just working with him behind the scenes to figure out his splitter again? It seems like if his splitter isn’t working he’s unusable but how did it get so far off track?

I feel bad for Seiya. He’s gonna be the scapegoat for David Ross’s terrible decisions. And he doesn’t deserve that.

Everyone will get over it quickly.  There are some bad reactions on twitter tonight but when people come to their senses its plainly obvious that it was an unfortunate mistake that only put an exclamation point on a very bad 3 inning collapse.

I really hope he can shake it off.  Last thing we want is for him to start pressing (definitely looked like he was pressing in the 9th trying to hit a HR to atone for the error).

That wouldn't be fair to him at all. He's the reason they are in this hunt in the first place.

Sure, it would have been great if the Cubs could have swept the Pirates or even taken 2 out of 3.  The reality though is they just won 4 out of 6 on their last home stand.  It isn't realistic to expect anything more than that. There are other games/series we can potentially look back on, but I can't get too worked up about losing 2 games to the Pirates and then sweeping the Rockies.

Sure, the reality of a 4-2 homestand is important, a job well done. But with playoff aspirations, a road series disaster before and after that homestand, just makes you consider what would have been the case if you really dominated that series and went 5-1 or 6-0. Now as the Atlanta series moves ever so closer to a Braves sweep and us missing out on the playoffs makes one wish things could have gone better against some second division teams.

Sure, Suzuki has been a plus this season......even with that extended slump he had late May through mid-June. He should be remembered for all the positives he brought to the teams success this year. Still, some will only see the miscue and remember him in a Don Young or Brant Brown similarity. 😞
