The Brewers lost last night and Wainwright got his 200th career win so I'm not sure where all of you land on that situation.

I thought it would be funny if he ended on 199 since he’s been awful this year and was hanging on only for 200. But I don’t care that he got it.

Glad they skipped Taillon and hope the offense comes to life. Will be there tonight, so if they go on a run you can thank me.

And if they play even worse?

Braves are clearly going through some sort of divison clinching hangover getting blasted by the Marlins and now the Phillies.  I'm guessing this lasts through the weekend and then they start to "get serious again" just in time for the series against the Cubs.

Pittsburg the only reason why we are still in it.  Let's hope they keep up the generosity.

They are 12-7 since the last time we played them so they're playing good baseball

I can't believe Cincinnati still has played 2 more games than us, they're gonna have a lot of rest down the stretch and an easy schedule.  Man I wish we didn't blow those 2 games in Cincinnati.  Life is slightly easier if we win even one of them.

And the AZ game Saturday, of course the Cubs also had some lucky wins too this year

Yeah definitely, the luck probably evens out.  We tend to forget about the wins like the 1-0 Milwaukee win or the Bellinger deflects GW hit off the Brewers pitcher, or Happ throws out 2 runners at the plate in Milwaukee, or Tauchman robbing a walkoff, etc etc and only focus on when we lost because a ball deflects off our pitcher.

Those Reds games just stick with me because it was back-to-back days with a lead in the 9th inning and either one not only puts us 2 games farther from them in the standings but clinches the tiebreaker.  If the Cubs miss the playoffs there are a shitload of games in September to point to but if they make it there are also a shitload of games all season to point to.

Someone had a wedding in the bleachers?

That's a choice.

Yes, in the final game of the Giants series.  Since the Cubs are 2-8 since then, it had to be the wedding in the bleachers

Canario has been freed

Great now the complaints can change from "Why won't Ross play Canario?" to "Why is Canario starting after getting 1 AB in the last 3 weeks?"

Not sure Swanson hitting 2nd is better than hitting 5th but maybe his approach to ABs is different hitting 2nd and he can get it together.

Corner IFs are dropping like flies

So thats Fulmer, Alzolay, Candelario and Madrigal now.  Am I missing anyone else?  I believe the earliest Candelario can be activated is Thursday, but given that its a back injury and he was struggling with it for a while I wouldn't count on it.

This latest injury reinforces that the Cubs can't count on Madrigal for anything going forward.  For 2024 and beyond, he is nothing more than roster depth.  Even when he is playing well enough, it's only a matter of time before he goes down with a hamstring injury again.
